It has won various awards, particularly for its pork sausages who's accolades are surrounding the walls. They also offer a good few value packs which offer a lot of meat for a very reasonable price. They also don't mind if you want to change something in the pack for something else, they are more than happy to oblige. The meat is great quality too, and they have lots of offers on especially at BBQ time - when the meat is flying off the counter faster than they can put it out. As the previous review notes local butchers have been getting it tough the last decade so it's nice to see Crowes competing with the big boys, price and quality wise. One other bonus to a visit is that the lads working in the shop always are friendly and have a good bit of banter ready for you, be it sport, weather or women related. I'd recently bough Fergus Henderson's marvellously sharp and interesting book, Nose to Tail Eating.Fergus in his restaurant, St.John in London (now awarded two mitchelin stars) focuses on modern old school British cooking, utilising every part of the animal, with notable focus on offal. One dish that caught my eye was their legendary roast bone marrow and parsley salad. But alas, where to get some cow bone. I tried a few small places in the city centre with no luck until I called in. I asked and he came back with two huge chunks of beef shin bone. Superb, less subtle and dainty than the pictures I'd seen but none the less... bones and, free of charge!

The place is spotless and they also carry all sorts of yummy goodies to add to your dish like sauces and tobacco onions. My goodness, the tobacco onions...yum. The location is ideal, with handy parking right outside and there is also a fruit and veg spot next door so you can keep your whole dinner local and actually cheaper than the supermarkets.

The guy serving seemed friendly and certainly wasn't pushing for me to make a decision while I pondered what to buy close to closing time. My 5 yr old wanted sausages so I bought half a dozen each of pork, pork & leek and beef. On cooking there wasn't too much fat coming out of them, skins stayed intact and the meat was nice and juicy. The whole family enjoyed eating them but the beef was a clear winner. As I try more products I'll update this review but first impressions are good.
