That said there is plenty of fresh fruit and veg in the shop as well. Although Bangor has an abundance of butchers, this one has joined the growing trend of having a coffee shop/restaurant attached. The food in here is good quality using on site ingredients for good prices. You can get a hearty feed for £5. Unlike other reviewers I find Primacy to be one of the cheapest butchers in Bangor (maybe its more to do with what I buy) and they have good meat packs available which offer decent discount for bulk buying. Some of the other products on offer in the shop can be pricey though. I also think their meat is great quality and well tasty. The staff are all great. Friendly and happy to provide help and advice.

But within the last 3 years it has grown, matured and developed into a super butchers. It now boasts a coffee shop, gift shop and fruit and veg shop, its like when one of your friends comes into money and completely changes. They get a brand new house (shop) build big iron gates and lose all personality. Although I think I may just be bitter because I felt a certain affinity with the old Primacy meats. It is rather over priced compared to its competitors and it feels like it is trying to hard to be the best. With the awards it has won there is no wonder that it has developed an ego. Northern Irelands Butcher of the year 2009 is one of these accolades but trust me if you want reasonably priced meat I would stay away from the Primacy. The staff are friendly and polite and they will even throw in an extra dog bone with your purchases. But if they get any more expensive the dog will be missing out and I will be chewing on the bone. It is a great location, out of town and if you fancy something different for lunch then you should visit the coffee shop, it is a little more reasonable. Parking is fantastic but it does get busy in BBQ season and you may have to queue out the door.

Most of the fruit and veg sits outside, which on this particularly wet and miserable day meant that my nectarines were ever so slightly wet (mmm, rain water) and miserable looking. Plus, the plastic bags, which already take an absolute age to open, took even longer due to their sogginess. Nice. The inside of The Deli and Greengrocer was much more sunshiny, least of all because the shop dude was super smiley and cheery. "Horrible say out there, isn't it?", says he, grinning like a Cheshire cat that quite possibly also just got that delicious bowlful of cream. "Awful, I replied", smiling purely because his geniality was *that* contagious. He didn't even mind when I handed him what seemed like an absolute ton of change. Lovely man. The layout of the shop meant that I wasn't fully able to explore the rest of it. The deli section is situated just in from the door, then there's a little slope to your right with a till, and the fruit and veg beyond that. Due to there being quite a long queue (ie. three people in front of me), I couldn't edge round them, so I just made do with my watery nectarines (don't worry, once cleaned up they tasted pretty good actually). Cheers to Mr Cheery greengrocer for making my afternoon much more exuberant.

I have walked passed this Deli and Greengrocer so many times without giving it a second glance , but as they say every cloud has a silver lining and due to being out of action for a while the local stores have come into their own. This is exactly what it's name implies - a deli and a greengrocer. The Deli counter has all kinds of cooked meat and delicious types of coleslaw and the greengrocer has all fruit and vegetables which where possible is locally sourced . Their prices are very competitive and home delivery is available. I certainly will be visiting this shop on a more regular basis as I was delighted with the cost and freshness of the initial delivery.

Really really good stuff if you need to pick up stuff for dinner and or a summery BBQ. There is a really reliable delivery service which is handy if you cant get the time to pop down to the shop which is located right at the heart of Ballyholme, on the Groomsport which means it is easy to get to by car and there is plenty of good parking right outside the shop. Despite its looks it is a great butchers, my sister lives just up the road and I have been sent down here on many occasions to get sausages for a fry or bacon for a carbonara. It is very reasonable in price and it is a great local service. The guys in Ballyholme local meats are really friendly, they even got to know my 3 year old nephew by name and if he wasn't with me would ask how he was getting on. It is this type of individuality that helps businesses sustain their customer base and I for one will certainly go back in for a favourable cut of meat.

This place has been around for a couple of years and has an amazing reputation. A friend of mine briefly worked in here so we all checked it out when it first opened and have been back lots of times. They have a massive selection of meats including the usual chicken, pork, lamb, beef as well as other stuff that you may not expect from a butchers. You can get ready made meals that you can stick into the old oven and there you go - you have a meal for as many people as you need. The prices are good and the staff are knowledgable and helpful. It's based right in Bloomfield Shopping Centre so there is plenty of good parking and ATMs near by.

You can get every day meals like a whole chicken ready prepared with potatoes and veg - just shove it in the oven and 2 hours later you've got a family dinner. There's also chicken gougons, stuffed chicken breasts and chicken stir fries ready done with veg and sauces. The beef is fantastic and only comes from one farm in County Tyrone which uses the most animal welfare conscious methods possible. I think that's important these days and I also think the beef tastes all the better for it. Quite often if we're entertaining, I buy the main course from McGees. I don't actually lie and say I have made it myself, but if no-one asks, I sure ain't telling. I have done stuffed pork fillet and rack of lamb which come beautifully prepared and just go straight in the oven. To complete your meal, whether a week day tea or a dinner party, McGees also do lush little garlic potatoes, chilli potatoes and packs of stir fry veg. Prices are great too, for example the complete chicken dinner is £7 which you really couldn't beat by making it all from scratch yourself.

The shop assistant was ever so patient, as I stood trying to a) take in the various kinds of sweets, and b) make my mind up from the huge choice. Five minutes later (they were a loooonnggg five minutes), and I was eventually able to come to a conclusion (of sorts). Don't think the shop assistant was as ever as glad to see me stop gazing longingly at the profusion of delectable sweeties. Honestly. First up was a quarter of a pound of jelly beans (apparently they don't work in grammes), as apparently my dad likes them, or so I thought. Upon further investigation, this is not the case...they're just "all right". Hmph, well that's the last time I buy him any sweets. I couldn't possibly leave without purchasing Millions (blackcurrant flavour s'il vous plait), so I took a load of them too. The best bit about eating them is being able to say to people "oh, I lost a million" when you drop one on the ground. Priceless. Just as I was finishing up, my eye caught sight of those little fruity stick things (wonderful description I know...and the shop assistant even told me their name, but alas, I have forgotten), so I took twenty of them, just for good measure. And so that Mr Dentist will love me even more tomorrow...eeek. The shop itself is truly retro...man, it's even got a wireless in the corner! There's a cute little fireplace, a few pictures, and whole lot of charm. Sweet, in more ways than one.
