Really really good stuff if you need to pick up stuff for dinner and or a summery BBQ. There is a really reliable delivery service which is handy if you cant get the time to pop down to the shop which is located right at the heart of Ballyholme, on the Groomsport which means it is easy to get to by car and there is plenty of good parking right outside the shop. There are some other shops and an ATM right near by so its easy and convenient to get here and there is no real reason not to head to this wee shop.

Despite its looks it is a great butchers, my sister lives just up the road and I have been sent down here on many occasions to get sausages for a fry or bacon for a carbonara. It is very reasonable in price and it is a great local service. The guys in Ballyholme local meats are really friendly, they even got to know my 3 year old nephew by name and if he wasn't with me would ask how he was getting on. It is this type of individuality that helps businesses sustain their customer base and I for one will certainly go back in for a favourable cut of meat.

This place has been around for a couple of years and has an amazing reputation. A friend of mine briefly worked in here so we all checked it out when it first opened and have been back lots of times. They have a massive selection of meats including the usual chicken, pork, lamb, beef as well as other stuff that you may not expect from a butchers. You can get ready made meals that you can stick into the old oven and there you go - you have a meal for as many people as you need. The prices are good and the staff are knowledgable and helpful. It's based right in Bloomfield Shopping Centre so there is plenty of good parking and ATMs near by.

Or maybe it's because I can't…read morecook that I love McGees as this is a butchers which sells all manner of ready to cook meat and non meat meals which aren't heavily processed. You can get every day meals like a whole chicken ready prepared with potatoes and veg - just shove it in the oven and 2 hours later you've got a family dinner. There's also chicken gougons, stuffed chicken breasts and chicken stir fries ready done with veg and sauces. The beef is fantastic and only comes from one farm in County Tyrone which uses the most animal welfare conscious methods possible. I think that's important these days and I also think the beef tastes all the better for it. Quite often if we're entertaining, I buy the main course from McGees. I don't actually lie and say I have made it myself, but if no-one asks, I sure ain't telling. I have done stuffed pork fillet and rack of lamb which come beautifully prepared and just go straight in the oven. To complete your meal, whether a week day tea or a dinner party, McGees also do lush little garlic potatoes, chilli potatoes and packs of stir fry veg. Prices are great too, for example the complete chicken dinner is £7 which you really couldn't beat by making it all from scratch yourself.

I felt under pressure as there were people behind me and I was getting a bit panicky trying to remember what everyone wanted. I also find it easier to decide when there is a menu in front of me and you can ask the waiter/waitress about a dish or ingredients without holding people up. However the food was server quickly and the service staff were pleasant.

Something really bizarre happened me at Mckees Farm Shop today. First of all I have never been…read morebefore and was not expecting what I found. It's huge - a massive big cafe selling local and homemade food. A large shop with shelves upon shelves of local produce such as sweets, jams, cakes and even ice cream. I bought a tub of ice cream which is Yellow man flavored and about two seconds ago had a big scoop - oh my word it's good and made in Newtownards! Anyway, I went in to get a big dish of take away dinner for I am entertaining (Don't you know - said in a very posh voice!) tomorrow evening. my future mother in law recommended the place if you are having people round as they do a great variety of hot dishes like lasagna, curry, sweet and sour, stews for up to 20 people at decent prices. I went for chilli chicken for 6 - 6 very generous portions came to £20. While I was waiting I noticed a bit of an atmosphere in the place and i asked the guy who was serving me what was happening. He informed me that the boy band Mcfly had just landed in. I said 'what are they doing here?' to which he replied, obviously 'having something to eat.' Being a massive freak when it comes to celebs I had to have a nosy so I stuck my face up against every window in the place until I finally caught a glimpse of them (other people were staring at me as if I was deranged!) When I got home I Google imaged them to make sure it was definitely them - it was. I have to say I am massively impressed with McKees, not only is the food amazing, fresh and local but they sell a great mixture of kitchen goods as well as flowers and gifts AND they even attract celebrities! AWESOME.
