    Wegmans - Don't mind if I do!

I love Wegmans and this location is no different…read more With it being in the city, it's evident that both the parking lot and store are smaller than suburban locations but they do their best to maximize the space. The parking spots are narrower than suburban locations, but there is a lot of parking. The store felt slightly more cramped than my go-to location, even shopping with a small cart was tight to navigate through the produce section and the aisles were busy with shoppers and staff restocking. It's also a busy location, even on a Friday afternoon. But the store was clean and well organized, and they had a lot of registers open and staffed by courteous cashiers. The quality and selection of their food is fantastic, better than most grocery stores in the area.

Naturally, I still find myself frequenting this Wegmans whenever I'm back in Buffalo. The Amherst Street Wegmans has a massive parking lot, though you would never know it during the peak hours. Between how popular this store already is and the addition of the Wegmans Wine & Spirits shop in the same plaza, it's usually pretty packed. You might not snag a spot close to the entrance but you'll find a spot. Might I suggest that patience is basically required, as with all things Wegmans. Once inside, I'm almost always overwhelmed (in the best way) by how much there is. Prepared foods, deli counter, meat and seafood, bakery, flowers, produce, frozen foods. You name it, Wegmans has it and they probably have a Wegmans branded version, too. I love browsing the craft beer section and, more recently, the growing selection of non-alcoholic options (Thank you, Wegmans!). Honestly, I can't complain. Yes, Wegmans can feel overwhelming, but now that I don't actually work there anymore, I've grown to appreciate the variety, freshness, quality, and pricing. The things I would do for Wegmans to come to the West Coast... until then, I'll keep savoring every visit to Weggies while I'm back home.

Where to begin... I…read morestrive to be fair and constructive, but the issues at this location are numerous and difficult to overlook. Firstly, if theft prevention is a significant problem, consider bringing cashiers back and closing the self-checkout lanes. The current setup, in which self-checkout scales have been "recalibrated," creates an immense inconvenience for honest customers. The system does not allow placing reusable bags on the scale, locking the transaction until intervention occurs. Customers are forced to place items directly on the scale, then bag them, but moving anything for bagging freezes the system, requiring an employee to step in. In one instance, the system locked when I tried to bag my items, and I was scolded by an employee who barked, "Don't move anything!" or, "Take the bag off the scale!" This hostile approach makes the experience even more unpleasant. On my most recent visit, there was a staffed cashier lane open. I opted to use it, but after realizing I had forgotten my reusable bags, I purchased paper bags. The cashier pushed the bags across the conveyor belt and made no effort to help bag my groceries. When I asked if she would assist, she curtly responded, "It's not my job--if you want your groceries bagged, you have to do it yourself." Trying to understand the process, I asked a staff member about the recalibrated scales. They explained that "head office" had mandated these changes, insisting it wasn't the fault of the local team. When I asked for the phone number to contact head office, I was given a series of frustrating responses: One employee claimed the owner only communicates via email and doesn't have a phone number. Another time, I was told the manager was "still looking for the number," and finally, on a separate occasion, I was advised, "If you want the number, you'll have to Google it." It's unreasonable for customers to bring their own bags, self-scan items, navigate a confusing and error-prone system, bag their own groceries, and still pay premium prices--all while dealing with rude or dismissive service. Despite the convenience of this location to our home, I am now willing to drive an extra 20 minutes to shop elsewhere. I am not typically someone who writes reviews; I generally choose to silently take my business elsewhere. However, this experience has compelled me to speak up. If you demand high prices, you must deliver high-quality service. Do better.

I haven't seen full shelves like this since... well, maybe never, but certainly not since 2020. Whatever you're looking for, you will probably find it at this Tops. They had their ribbon cutting ceremony today (: I wasn't able to go) for their Grand Re-Opening. Their people must have worked all night, many nights. I was there Friday and not too much was different; no clue to the pending changes. I was also there Sunday and Voila! a whole new store! New floors, new layout, many new products, a larger Goya section, a brand new Flash Food section, new carts. I didn't use the restroom, but was told it is a gem. I will get back to this Tops in a day or two-- it's my local Tops-- and I will take photos. Sunday I was too stunned to think of it.

Service is always good, with thoughtful suggestions if I'm not certain exactly what I want. If they don't have what I want, no beating around the bush-a suggestion of who might have the item. Usually good atmosphere, reshuffling stock to scrub shelves and go after floors. Big store has regular area clean checks. Pharmacy up to date and helpful.
