In the age of COVID-19, in-store shopping is a challenge, and Bulk Barn has done an amazing job of making bulk shopping as safe as it can be. You have several choices: 1) Order online for in-store pickup 2) Order online for curbside pickup 3) Go in store, wear a mask, you will be asked to sanitize your hands, put on disposable plastic gloves and wait until you can be escorted by a staff-member who will scoop for you. Staff were on it. Wearing masks, and sanitizing between every customer. My online order was placed Sunday, and a staff member called me at 9:30am to let me know it was ready and waiting for me to pick up anytime. When I arrived, I didn't see many people in the store, so I decided I would go in and pick up in-store rather than taking a staff person off the floor to bring it out to my car... but could have as I did get the epic spot on the street just outside the door. There were a couple of people in the entry when I went in, it was just enough room for 3 of us to be there waiting, otherwise I would have waited outside, but we were processed rapidly and on our way. If you don't love buying things in bulk and saving money you are a MONSTER! Really, how can you not? I go to this location a lot because it is in my neck of the woods. I have been to a few other locations and they all seem pretty cookie cutter to each other so besides the staff/location/parking I don't think there is a lot of difference between them. They have a huge selection of things you can buy in bulk (as little or as much as you need). You can especially save a lot of money buying spices. They also have a program to bring your own containers so they help save the world on packaging that ends up in landfills. They have some things that may not immediately come to mind when you think of buying in bulk. Dog treats, soaps, bird seed, cake decorating, piñatas, pops, unusual chips, nutritional supplements, etc! They also have a very good selection of gluten free items. In this store most are located on the south wall of the store. There are other items mixed throughout the store too though. Look for scoops that have a yellow zip tie on them for a quick indication. The only downside to this location is limited parking. Part of the strip mall is paid parking and part is free. So be careful where you park. The lot can be busy because the mall is busy and it is close to Whyte Ave. If you haven't been to any Bulk Barn location you owe it to yourself to check them out! read more

I am sooo impressed by Bulk Barn. They have a huge collection bulk binned items like herbs, spices, dried fruits, chocolates, baking needs, salt, sugar etc. Although most items are in bins, they have a pretty big variety of packaged items as well. You can fathom the variety of things available at this store by just noticing that they have 6 different types of salt available in bulk. I can't conjure up a spice that they don't have - yes, they do have bay leaves in bulk! I am quite glad that this store has opened up in my neck of the woods. I am really quite shell shocked by the variety of baking items that they have. Several types of baking pans, cookie cutters, moulds, pastry pipping tools etc. along with almost any baking ingredient one might need. I should add that I am particularly impressed that they sell so much organic stuff as well. People might think that Bulk Barn sounds like a Dollarama, but this place has some pretty decent quality items! Also, some loose leaf tea available in bulk and strangely enough, a few British brands that I haven't quite seen in other stores. read more

What can I say about a place that delivers exactly what it promises? Kudos! Bins, full of bulk stuff, from chocolate to spices. There's nothing better than buying only what you need, especially when trying to cook an new cuisine. I arrived at bulk barn with my containers and when told I could not use two of them (because they had nut crumbs), I said I'd go clean them and come back. I was then told I couldn't do that because I had already been refused the two containers. I was then told again how I can't use them because I had to wash and sanitize them properly and I said I would and she still said I could not use them that day. I left the store and later called to speak to the manager, which was the same woman who had told me I couldn't use the containers and then let her know how ridiculous it was that I was not allowed to go clean my containers and bring them back. She then changed her story and said that she had not said that. My other experiences with non managers there were pleasant. Oh bulk barn. This is such a wonderful place. All of your snacking and baking needs in one handy location! My favourite items here are the bulk coffee, dog treats, and nut flours. They also have a plethora of snack mixes, candy, chocolate, tea, spices, vitamins, nut butters, and packaged food. If you've ever been irritated having to over-pay for food items, check out bulk barn and see if they carry it for less- they probably do! The staff are incredibly helpful and seem to have somehow managed the impossible and memorized where everything is in the store. I don't know how they do that, and it also blows my mind that they have all the number codes memorized when you go to check out! There are certain times when I'll go searching for something and they won't have it, or will be totally out (like plain black tea for brewing my kombucha) and some things seem a little overpriced (like the glassware and some baking items). I came to this location on my way home, specifically to buy some Tahini (Sesame Butter). Unfortunately they were out and said they didn't have any more in stock. I know these things happen but it's inconvenient when I could've gone to the South Common location when I was in the area earlier, but I figured it would be more convenient just to stop at this location. I find the selection at the South Common and even the Sherwood Park locations to be stocked better and sometimes even fresher. For instance, I was also going to purchase some mini gummy bears. The ones at this store were noticeably harder than the soft ones I purchased from the other two locations previously. That said, it's always fun to peruse the aisles and see what kinds of offerings they have. Since Valentine's Day is around the corner, the store was noticeably filled with many heart-shaped and pink items. read more

Is this real life? Someone needs to pinch me. After reading all of the positive reviews about Bulk Barn on Yelp, I knew I had to check it out for myself. Honestly, I don't know what I was expecting. Perhaps a glorified version of the bulk section at Safeway?? But no! Bulk Barn is so much more than that. The second I walked in, I was already planning what I would pick up on future visits. As others have mentioned, the highlight at Bulk Barn is the amazing selection of baking materials. They have everything from cake decorating supplies (which I was totally drooling over) to pre-mixed dry ingredients for the time-strapped baker. They also carry any kind of dry fruit you can think of. They also carry a huge selection of candies. I really appreciate how everything is labeled with ingredients. It makes it so much easier for a vegetarian like me to know which gummies to avoid and which to devour. Even right now I'm thinking about what I'm starting to run out of so that I have an excuse to go back. I'm hooked! read more

Everyone who knows me KNOWS how much I love Bulk Barn. I love the wonderful varieties of pasta, and rice, and flours, and spices, and coffee...aaah. But if my experience at this location is going to be the usual, I'll drive all the way across town to one of the other locations solely based on the music they were playing here. I think it was Bounce 91.7 or whatever the heck it is, and call me old, but it's noise. Feed all the vocals through some sort of filter, digitize all the life out of it, and shovel it down people's throats. Ugh. I heard at least one Rihanna song, and I don't remember who else. I was ready to blow my brains out after 5 minutes. This is coming from someone who has worked at CD stores for much of my life and is about as eclectic as you can get (I have everything from Dwight Yoakum to The Clash to the Happy Mondays to old 1920s standards to Burning Spear to Vivaldi on my IPOD, y'all). I put up with it as long as I could, but cut my visit short simply to escape from it. I know they have to cater to the students at the university because it's closer than the other Bulk Barn, but good GAWD, my ears. How have I never been here before? Bulk Barn is so awesome! A gazillion billion bins all full of different things, it's like Christmas with every new discovery you make! From tasty snacks, candy, pet treats, coffee, tea, you never know what you may see. They even had about 5 different peanut butters to choose from and honey machines as well. Just bring in your empty jars and fill them up! The prices are amazing, because you can fill up your baggies to whatever weight you want, its your choice on how much you want to spend. Although I knew there was a Bulk Barn in my neighbourhood for quite some time, it wasn't until recently that I began shopping there and fell in love with this place. They have a huge selection of bulk items from herbs, spices, flour to trail mixes though I mostly come here for the candy. They also carry a selection of baking supplies which comes pretty handy if you don't want to go to another store to buy them. Prices are very reasonable for those on a budget and on Wednesdays if you're a student or senior, you get 10% off! I'll definitely go back whenever I get the chance to. read more

I really like Bulk Barn. I mean, really, really, *really* like Bulk Barn! After discovering this Canadian gem through the Yelp talk boards, I stopped over to check it out for myself. I intended to run in for a minute, only to say I'd been there, and I ended up walking out 30 minutes later with $40 worth of merch! (And that's after the 25% discount promotion they were running!) Pasta, rice, tea, flour, baking tools, candies, even things like dried fruit - it's all there in bulk, and super cheap. They've got an easy bagging system going for your bulking needs. I 'm on the hunt for CANDY, and I finally found the place. This place has alot of Candy, and dog bones for my dog's too. Since my previous review on a store called Candy that had only chocolate bars and a few at that, Bulk Barn surprised me alot. They have more candy then I need, plus a whole lot more. Like peanut butter, tea's, assortment of nuts and for all the baker's out there, lots of baking supplies. Bulk Barn is a cornucopia of wholesale goods - there is literally everything anyone who eats or cooks could need. Candy, herbs, spices, nuts, cereal, even pet snacks - I literally could not keep track of everything available here. I also made some discoveries - dried mulberries, for one, honey-roasted sunflower seeds, assorted snack foods - there is even a section of organic foods. Some items are available in individual packages, like teas and cookies, but for the most part, everything is in bulk bins. You don't even have to fiddle with pens and twist ties, writing down bin numbers. Just fill your bag, tie it shut, and the checkout person seems to know what you've got. Short review: I love this place!! Bulk Barn is a treasure for anyone that bakes, or cooks. I hate discovering that a recipe needs 2 tablespoons of something I don't have, or should I say, I used to hate it. Bulk Barn has all those obscure things, but instead of buying a 1 lbs bag, you can just buy what you want, usually at a cheaper price than you'll find elsewhere. They also have some prepackaged products, which I didn't like at first (hey, it's supposed to be a BULK food store), but they I started realizing that they carry stuff that I've never seen elsewhere (Blair's Death Rain Kettle Chips - so amazing), or things that are available elsewhere, but at a cheaper price (like Almond Milk). This used to be a Henry's store, so the outside looks really nice - probably the best-looking Bulk Barn around. Also, for the budget-conscious, Bulk Barn has a lot of coupons, like $3 off when you spend $10. Great deal! read more

I guess the novelty has worn off for my love of Bulk Barn. More and more I have found that some of the product I have bought from here comes home stale, or become stale very quickly (which sort of defeats the purpose of BULK, no?). Additionally, they no longer carry my favorite rice chips which was the main reason I would stop there, and I often find myself leaving with more junk food than is really necessary (or at all reasonable). Nonetheless, I still stop here when I get a muffin craving, or need to bake a cake. There are still a few items that I would rather come here for but I seem to find myself here less and less as time goes by. read more

I had a love-at-first sight experience with Bulk Barn. Really. I walked in, and instantly felt that "till death do us part" vibe. Bulk foods seem to be dying out in grocery stores. They get smaller and smaller, pricier, and more boring. Or else they're constantly picked over and dirty looking. Bulk Barn is none of these things. Bulk Barn is wonderful. Before I start swooning, let me get to the details. The store itself was bright and clean, and HUGE. I had low expectations but when I walked in, after I got over the initial "ohmygodohmygod" moment, I really was overwhelmed by how much they had to offer. Snack foods, pastas, baking ingredients, special ingredients (such as colored sugar), spices, candies - everything. Their attention to detail is really there - they even offer things like little glass spice jars and specialty non-bulk bags of candy and chips. Quality of the food was very good, all of the bins were clean and full. They had a lot of information and nutritional info written on the bins, so you know exactly what you're getting. Things that need to be cooked - such as oatmeal or biscuit mix, comes with a little card to remember the cooking details. The pricing was excellent all though I will admit that I didn't really buy "a lot" of one thing. I purchased six or seven different tiny bags of spices (and I purchased too much in volume, half of them didn't fit in my spice jars when I got home!) and only spent around $6. Another time, I got a medium sized (around maybe 20 servings worth) of the macaroni and cheese powder (I know, don't judge!) and it was something like $3. If you go there and come out with only what you need - I guarantee, you will save money. read more

They also sell vitamins and other nutritional supplements, teas, coffees, different kinds of milk, baking equipment, and even piñatas. I like to come here and get just a little bit of the candies that I like to eat. The store also has some good trail mixes. I've been to a couple Bulk Barns and I'm always impressed by the cashiers who know most of the product codes from memory. I came here the other day to purchase some star anise that I couldn't find at any other grocery store. Since I don't use this spice often, I wanted to buy it bulk. My friend recommended this store to me. Before I went, I was able to do a search on their website that let me know that they carry the spice. I thought that was an awesome tool - time saving! The store is large and everything is displayed in a neat and orderly fashion. They carry everything from baking spices and flours, nuts, candies to super foods such as quinoa. They provide baggies or containers for you to package your treats in. The prices are reasonable. I would definitely come back here again to buy some more bulk goodies. Bulk Barn is my go-to place for small snackfoods, baking ingrediants, and especially spices. As a student just getting set up in Edmonton, I was thinking I would have to spend $30-$40 at Safeway to get my spice rack going, and I was delighted when my girlfriend and I were cycling to Save-On and she remembered the marque from when she used to live in Ontario. I was able to get all my basic spices, in excess, for only a few dollars. They also have great prices on pasta, reasonable deals on a large selection of candy, and great prices on things such as chips (.99 cents for a full size bag - off brand, but tested to be good by moi!). They seem to maintain freshness of their product. Every week I buy graham crackers, and they are always snap-fresh. Candy is almost always soft. Spices are of good quality. They are also a good place to get some baking utensils - I got a $4 cookie sheet which stands up to my abuse and a $5 8x8 cake pan which seems to heat evenly. Best of all, students with ID (and seniors) get 10% off every Wednesday! It's now part of my routine to stock up on their cheap chips, graham crackers, and candy every Wednesday, as well as whatever baking supplies I need. Easily accessible by transit, just a block down from Whyte. Only 4/5 stars because you have to be careful what you're buying. Despite being a bulk store, they have NO SCALES so you don't know how much you're spending until the register. Plus, be careful about how good the deals really are - for instance, many of their 5 cent candy works out to like 4.7 cents per piece - 1/3 of a cent less than at 7-11 - but you stock up because your brain tells you you're at a discount store. read more

1 word "Gross". After reading and hearing all of the fantasic things about Bulk Barn I thought I would go in and see what they had to offer. So, one day when jonesing for sugar a fellow sugar addict and I headed off to the Bulk Barn. I purchased a few of my favorite snacks from the bins: licorice laces, gummy bears and sour cream puffs to name a few. My friend had an equally luscious load. I probably dropped about $40 and she $50. We couldn't wait to get to the car to twist open a few bags and start the sugar rush and when we finally got the bags open wow.. what a disappointment! My licorice laces were like eating the leather laces on my boots. I might have pulled off a crown trying to dislodge a gummy bear from my tooth and my girlfriend was dry heaving beside me. Need I say more. Thoroughly disappointing. The most stale and vile junk food I have ever had the displeasure of eating. The bulk goods must have been in those bins for who knows how long ??? That coupled with the occassional grubby hands dipping into the bins to steal samples when no one was looking; disgusting. In fact it was so bad we threw it all in the garbage. I learned a costly but valuable lesson that day, and no, it wasn't to stop eating so much junk food..lol, rather "To ensure freshness always buy your candy individually packaged". Oooo, ya! I love buying mass amounts of bulk candy like soooooo much! Nothing makes a great party better then vases full of jelly belly jelly beans or gummy worms, or any relevant candy for the theme at hand. And I have yet to come across a party theme that I can not pair with corresponding candy! Name your party, I will tell you a candy to match. And besides awesome candies, they have really cheap prices on baking needs like melting chocolate, food colouring, sprinkles, as well as nuts, honey, jams, even vitamins! I love how organized this place is. The staff are pretty friendly and willing to give honest answers to questions you may have. I like to come here for staples and spices because I don't usually need alot and buying a big bag or jar is a waste for me. I loooove bulk barn! What's not to love about buying mass quantities of candy for cheap prices??? Bulk barn has a ridiculously large variety of candy, baking goods, juice powders, soup stocks, and more to offer. It's a great place to come and save a pretty penny on your snacking or baking supplies. It's super affordable, super selection, and there's really nothing bad I can say about it. All Right Bulk Barn...this place is just right I do not have any complaints really..parking is good the customer service rocks....each item is marked by a 4-5 letter barcode I always try to remember them but I end up buying toomuch and all the numbers become a mix...goodthing staff is on top of it. This place rocks, it has the most affordable and largest variety of baking/cooking ingredients i've seen thus far in Edmonton and they have a nice selection of organic and eco-friendly products as well. The store itself is amazing like any bulk barn. However my last visit I was waiting in line and the woman at the till seemed to be having a problem ringing though an item. No big deal, it happens. The owner I found out later walked up and already looked angry and was EXTREMELY rude to the employee working and physically moved her out of the way after. She was also extremely condensing and I could tell the employee was embarrassed. The owner took over the till I was on so when it was my turn I asked her if she was the manager to which she replied the owner. And proceeded to ask if I had a problem. I told her I didn't think what she just did was an appropriate way to treat her staff, nor is physically touching them to move them. She told me she didn't, to which I replied I just saw her do it. She put up her hand before I could say anything else and yelled goodbye. Unbelievable. read more

If you are looking for Gluten-free items this is the place to go! Lots of baking mixes, flours, snacks compared to many other places. The pre-made stuff is slightly cheaper here. They also have some sugar-free "gummi-flowers" which are way better then any other sugar gummis, I have Hypoglycemia and maintaining my sugar levels is important and my husband is gluten-intolerant and I stay away from wheat flours because of the type of carbs. I love this place. You also will find a plethora of baking needs like pans, piping bags, you name it, I know a couple of people who do wedding and theme cakes and They get most of their supplies there. My only wish is that they had more sugar-free options, it's difficult no matter where I go, people with sugar issues are not demanding enough to make it viable. If you need anything specially ordered, don't go here. You will email and speak with the manager on the phone numerous times, and she will still forget your order. And when you go to pick up your order on the day you agreed to get it, you will be told that you have to scoop it out of the bin yourself. What a waste of time! There was no need for me to email or have any conversations with her, when I could just go in and fill my own bags. There wasn't even any apology.
