I had an unforgettable experience dining at Pierre Sang. A family friend highly recommended the…read morerestaurant, and I booked a reservation about a month in advance. On the day of our reservation, all of the parties for the designated seating time were shown to their tables; once everyone was seated (we were seated in the basement with a few other parties), each course was brought out in an orderly sequence. I will not comment too much on the details of the meal since the menu changes each day and is meant to be a surprise, but each dish was innovative and prepared with fresh ingredients. At a high level, our meal included a fruit appetizer, soup, fish, red meat, cheese, and dessert. One of my favorite parts of the experience was trying to guess the ingredients in each dish - some were quite difficult to guess because they were prepared in untraditional ways with the ingredients transformed beyond visual recognition (e.g., cantaloupe mousse). Each dish was very distinct from the next and provided a balance of flavors, textures, and temperatures. While I'd consider a couple of the dishes to be truly sublime, overall, the unique dining experience was one of the highlights of my trip to Paris.

I liked this and I had fun puzzling it out with my friends. We did not do a very good job! It was hard to guess the ingredients and I think they purposefully try to fool you a little. I have photos of each course but I don't remember all the details. We had 6 courses. There was a small starter of a bao bun; mine was markedly less filled than the others on the table, so the proportions were off and I felt shortchanged. Then we had a fish course, a course with savory ice cream and some bread (like cornbread), a mushroom "pate" course, a cheese course (one big slice of cheese), and dessert (ice cream and apricots?). I felt like everything (taste, texture, ingredient quality and variety) were good but not great, especially since they are making things easier on themselves by doing fixed menus. Staff tried to explain what all the dishes and ingredients were, and they did good but not great job. They spoke English but didn't always know the English words for specific ingredients. The ambiance was fine. We were at a long, narrow communal table on the first floor just next to the kitchen and the door. It was a little cold from people coming in and out and a little busy with all the staff moving around. It wasn't the most refined or relaxing atmosphere.

Not the friendliest hostess or server, but efficient. I was curious what Korean food (which is known to stay pretty consistent regardless of which country you are in) would taste like in France, and didn't want to just do KBBQ. The table we sat at, did have a gas bbq pit. They immediately offered a carafe of water, which we could serve ourselves. We started off with Crepe au kimchi (€12) , and it was very, very good. The kimchi was sufficiently sour to give the pancake a nice kick, and just enough hot oil had been used to make the pancake crispy but not too oily. It had been cut into the right sized squares, perfect to pick up with chopsticks. It was a great start. We ordered bibimbap with raw beef (€16) , beef BBQ (bulgogi for €19,5), and kimchi pork soup with tofu (€14). The kimchi pork soup used the same really ripe kimchi. It had generous portion, the broth had permeated the tofu nicely, and there was the right amount of fatty pork. With a bowl of white rice (€2), it was a good meal for me and I was satisfied. My wife's bulgogi came with white rice and 6 banchans. It was very tender and well marinated. She grilled it herself...the ventilation was good...we didn't smell smokey afterwards. My daughter was less impressed with the bibimbap..it had quality ingredients (and the raw beef could be cooked in the very hot stone bowl)....but the hot sauce didn't taste right. It wasn't salty enough (per her). The 6 banchans were hit/miss. I really liked the kimchi and the cole slaw. The marinated wood ear mushrooms were unusual for a banchan, but I enjoyed it. The sweet potatoes had a funny after-taste, more tasteless than sweet. The bean sprouts and green beans added a nice crunch to my meal. After everything, the total came out to €63,50. Pretty good food, decent price. Worth going to.
