The space is great, so comfortable and just an amazing vibe. I come here to sketch sometimes and it's the perfect environment for someone to either get some work done or be creative. "Come for the kava, stay because your legs forgot how to work." Listen -- I walked into Bula Kava House thinking I was just going to sip some ancient root water and maybe pretend I was spiritually enlightened for 45 minutes. I left feeling like I had hugged a cloud and had deep, meaningful eye contact with a houseplant. 10/10, would vibe again. First off, the atmosphere is what would happen if a chill island hut and a Pacific Northwest coffee shop had a laid-back, barefoot baby. Everyone's friendly in that "I-might-actually-remember-your-name-next-time" kind of way. No pretentious kava snobs here -- just good people drinking murky brown mystery juice and somehow loving life. As for the kava itself: yes, it tastes like earthy pond tea filtered through a flip-flop. But that's the charm. One shell in, you're skeptical. Two shells in, you're convinced you could solve global conflict with a group hug and a ukulele. By the third shell, you're leaning back, grinning at strangers, and saying "Bula!" like you were born in Fiji. Bonus points for the music, which is either lo-fi beats or ukulele covers of songs you forgot you loved. And if you sit there long enough (which you will), you'll probably hear someone say something mystical like, "Kava connects us to our ancestors" while gently petting a ceramic / coconut bowl. I'm really happy that Bula Kava has opened up another location and this time on the other side of the river. The ambience of this place is so relaxing, well lit, and full of comfortable seating, as well some very beautiful house plants. They have a great selection of bulk kava, as well as several regularly rotating varieties on their menu, including a regular brew and a strong batch. The strong batch is strong, so maybe just start with one and go from there, depending on how mellow you want to get. I've tried some of their juices and smoothies, which are also quite good, as well as a nice pallet cleanser for the kava. I've yet to try their other menu offerings such as their acai, pitaya and oatmeal, but based off of everything else I've had I'm sure it's some delicious, quality health food. As far as their kava, they consistently have the best around in terms of potency and effect and they carry quite a few cultivars to choose from. The bulk kava is a great option for making it at home but when you don't want to buy a whole pound and maybe just want to sample a few options. I really like what they're doing here and I hope for their continued success serving this great intoxicating and medicinal alcohol free beverage. read more

Not the greatest experience with the staff. In fact quite awkward. I came in from out of town so I wasn't familiar with their menu. I walk up to the register to order and the staff member stared at me blankly as if I had the audacity to be unsure of what to have. There were two staff members on site this day - and the other was a bit unkind and dismissive as well when I asked for water. They had a too cool for school vibe overall and basically rushed me out with their cold demeanor and started laughing when I got up to leave because I clearly wasn't welcome with their vibe. Last night I tried the Vula kava drink, which looked like strange mop water served in a coconut shell with a pineapple skewer as a chaser. It wasn't a delicious beverage, but it wasn't offensive. It was a pleasant experience overall though. My friends and I stumbled upon trivia night. The ambience was fun, and I loved the bean bag chairs and large plant wall. I love how late they are open late on a Thursday night - 11 pm is late for Vancouver! This place is lovely! read more

I am so excited Bula Kava came to Vancouver. I had been to the Portland one before, but living in Camas that is too far for me. I come to this one multiple times a week. The atmosphere is so relaxing, and the employees are the nicest people ever! Lexi and Tsea are my absolute favorite! They go out of their way to make me feel welcomed. Perfect environment if you want to read, work or do homework. Kava really helps with my anxiety and calms my mind. They have lots of kombucha and smoothies as well. read more

Didn't come here for Kava, so can't speak on how that is. But I had an almond butter smoothie bowl that was delicious. They serve food until 10pm on Friday. Unsure about other days but this is what we were told on the Friday we went. A friend with me got a custom fresh juice that she enjoyed. Everything they serve is organic or mostly natural but if you're worried about ingredients, they may or may not be able to answer questions. They couldn't tell us what was in the granola but did confirm it's organic which was fine with me, and the coconut water they use in certain recipes she did show us the label of and it has preservatives that I personally avoid so I just went with something else. The cashier was very patient as my friend asked lots of questions and took her time carefully ordering due to dietary restrictions. That was much appreciated. There is a couch section in the back for maybe up to 6 people or so. Otherwise your choices are bench seating with tables, counter height chair seating with tables, the counter with bar chairs at the front, or bean bags at a large and low table next to a beautiful living plant wall. Plenty of seating options. I saw that you can also buy kava in bulk here. And for after your juice/smoothie theres a nice, clean bathroom open for use. read more

Friendly staff who are knowledgeable and very helpful regarding kava options. I like that they serve kava in a coconut shell with fresh pineapple as a chaser. I had never consumed kava before and it is really relaxing! They also serve delicious fresh juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, kombucha on draft, and other jarred/canned drinks. I like that you can get points with each purchase and get money off of future purchases with point accumulation. Very comfortable atmosphere (love all of the plants!) and laid-back music. Also like that they have plenty of seating areas with wall outlets for plugging in laptops and phones! Great spot for working, relaxing, or meeting up with friends. Not really knowing much about kava and the fact the weather pretty much messed up the PNW this place was open and close so we figured no time like the present to try it. First of all I am without a doubt that the staff have delivered the spiel like a million times but they still take the time and they are very kind. What is it like? Pretty much what people say in their post a half shell filled with a murky liquid that tastes unpleasant. The pineapple chaser is necessary. However it does produce a sensation of relaxation and chill vibes. The experience is supposed to get better with each dose so we choked down three servings of the muddy liquid in the few hours yep that's right we spent hours chilling at this location. They have some games we played but overall just enjoyed the buzz. A little hint if you drink three of these expect a few things. Firstly you will have to poo, it cleans you out that's not a bad thing or a complaint. Secondly we slept like babies that night also very happy with that side effect. I would go back and have another bowl of the butter nectar. read more
