I just bought a Fixer-upper (stick) house off of Kelso Creek in October. It probably will not be "done" to to my satisfaction until I hit the $40,000 "improvement" price tag. My husband is on hospice, and being his only caretaker, I was thrilled that this store was only a few minutes away. I figured on buying everything here that needed, except for a little lumber.
Last week I bought a gallon of your "Best" satin paint in a beautiful orange for an accent wall in a bedroom. I was painting over pannaling and therefore sanded, filled holes, primed and sanded again, then washed it well before begining the color coat.
I am an old bird and have been painting and flipping houses since 1973. I know what I am doing.
The paint being orange in color, had Red pigment along with the others added. Something is bad with that red pigment. Perhaps it is old, the cell has leak, or something just needs cleaned well. As I was painting (20 minutes more or less after the purchase, therefore 'just shaken and mixed", I kept getting little red streaks. I worked with it and tried to blend as I went.
Today (Saturday Jan. 18, 2025) I went to paint the trim and saw the walls to be covered with little specks about the size of a large grain of sand everywhere, and not smooth. My roller had been a new microfiber roller and I had rinsed it well and dried it with a microfiber towel before I started. I took a 20/1 painters tool and lightly scraped off some of the specks. Each one mad a deep red streek.
"What a nightmare" I thought. Three coats of an expensive paint and it is all going to have to be scraped off and redone!
I was headed down today anyhow to pick up some tape and trim brushes (a new puppy is fascinated with my tools!), so I took some pictures and the paint can with me.
When I went into your store I asked to speak with the owner or manager and the young lady working the register rolled her eyes and said "What do you want?" I explained the situation, then went to items that I needed.
When I got back to the counter, she told me that a refund would be put back on my card. She continued to question me on what was wrong, suggesting perhaps it was too cold in the room when painted. When I explained that I had used a space heater her attitude increased. As I explained, again, she gave the fake smirk and mmm- hmmm's of a smart butt kid accusing me of lying.
I hope someone blends that red with a white and checks it out before selling more paint with red in it.
And I hope that young lady is worth loosing $35,000 or so over the next year. I do not plan on returning.
