We just bought some cedar for a fence we are building. They ordered exactly what we needed and…read morecalled us as soon as it got in. I was impressed because usually we have to do the calling to find out if our product has come in. And two people helped bring it out to the truck! They were so friendly and nice and personable. Not like some places that don't care about the customer at all. You could tell they genuinely enjoyed their job, and that's the kind of business I enjoy being at.

I recently purchased cedar fencing from this business. I spent over $700 here and I can't remember…read moreever experiencing such rudeness from a business before. I was told the wood I was purchasing was quality wood. That the knots wouldn't be larger than 1 1/2 inches and no knot holes. Probably 30% of the wood had large knots, knot holes, and a lot of split and damaged pieces. We managed to cut around and make all of the boards work except 2 boards. When I went to return the two boards and get a few extra I was "helped" by the rudest person I've probably ever had to deal with. From the moment I walked up to the counter he acted like I was disturbing him. He came out to the pile of boards, pointed at the ones I needed to choose from and then as he walked away said "try not to make a mess!" I have made many purchases from city lumber since I bought my home 10 years ago. I believe I have spent enough here to not be treated like a child. I don't know how this business keeps customers if this is how they treat everyone. I will drive to Portland to buy lumber before I will give this place my business again. City Lumber just lost a customer.

Bring your ear plugs! Your warmest clothes and plan on not getting much sound sleep…read more. I'm not sure exactly how we ended up renting one of these apartments, probably because there was NOTHING else in Rainier under $1k a month that allowed a pet. But at first look these apartments appear OK.. They look like they'd be snug and peaceful,, however they are NOT. First off, if you like to use the internet and expect speeds above 5-10mbps, forget it.. Xfinity is not available in Rainier, so that leaves ATT or Dish/Direct TV and the likes.. In other words, crap if you really are into using the internet.. And if you like to game... forget it.. The speeds are too laggy etc...But if you don't care about good internet then you won't drive yourself batty trying to stream a video some rainy evening.. I digress... Just FYI Columbia Park apartments are subsidized housing.. So expect to fill out a lot of paperwork and submit income verification.. The most important thing to know is it's very, VERY NOISY here.. There is a rail line just across the street from the park, that operates 24/7..(there's a HUGE lumber yard about 1/8 mile down from Columbia Park so tons of related truck/train traffic) I cannot remember a night living at Columbia Park that I was not rudely awakened by the sounds of a train whistle, over and over and over.. Often at 3 or 4am.. then there's the truck traffic on HIghway 30 that starts at....3:45AM..Jake brakes!! Ugh... And then of course there is all the big cargo ships that utilize the river.. Although they were not as noisy as the trains, cargo ships also like to utilize the "horns" and if it's foggy or overcast on the river, don't be surprised to hear the loooong echo of a ships horn in the middle of the night... Since these units are right by the local boat ramp there's little privacy.. However, it's a pretty setting, lots of grass etc.. These apartments are ideal for a single person, at the most a couple. Rooms are very small.. Kitchen is about as big as a closet, no counter space to speak of so cooking takes patience and planning. The bathroom is spacious, but there's no sink cabinet, just a free-standing old-fashioned type sink set up.. The lighting is very poor unfortunately so you need to make use of table lamps and the likes if you want to see well.. But if you don't mind noise, and crappy internet you will probably mind the FREEZING cold floors in those apartments.. There is no heat in the bathroom except what is supposed to be a heat lamp light bulb, which is instead just a regular flood light bulb.. The floor in the kitchen and bath is absolutely frigid.. Our pet would not even walk across the floor in the kitchen on colder nights and it does indeed get COLD in Rainier.. The windows... ugh the windows.. They appear double paned but they let in cold air like the windows are ajar... I highly doubt these apartments are even insulated.. Being slab foundations the floors sure aren't.. Then there's the odor from the water treatment plant. which is located a hop and a skip across the street.. Can you say STINKY?? Don't plan on much fresh air, you open a window most days and you'll get a not so nice smell of sewage wafting in.. The management is nice enough.. A bit anal retentive about certain things, but they do attend to issues fairly well..And it's not their fault the units are built horribly CHEAP. So if you don't mind noise from trains, trucks, sewage smells, freezing cold floors, bad heating, tiny bedrooms, no amentities (oh but there is a dishwasher for what that's worth) the price is decent, depending on your income etc.. Rainier doesn't have much to do, neither does Longview, which is across the River.. Portland is about 50 miles away.. Astoria about 45... It's a pretty area, and I'm sure appeals to hunters and fishermen/women because that's about all there is to do around here... Sadly... all that space, forests etc., and there are so few parks to explore... Basically if I had it to do over again I would have not rented the apartment.. The location is just bad, the units are not built well enough to withstand the cold Oregon winters and the most positive thing I can say about these units is beats being homeless.. Hope this helps!!
