I have been coming to this exact Build-A-Bear location since I was a little girl, dating back to when the company still had its original online website. Because of that, this experience was especially heartbreaking. Earlier today, my mom and I came in to make a bear for my dog, who is currently hospitalized in critical condition and may not recover. While recording a voice message for the bear, we were both visibly crying. The employee who assisted us witnessed this firsthand. We decided to purchase everything while the sale was going on and return later to have the bear stuffed once my dad arrived after driving an hour and a half to meet us. Before returning, I checked Google, which stated the store was open until 9:00 p.m. We arrived at 7:59 p.m., only to be met by the same employee who had helped us earlier. She looked at us and coldly said, "We're closed," before dismissing us. My 75-year-old grandmother kindly explained that my dog was critically ill and asked if the bear could simply be stuffed because we were hoping to get it to her as soon as possible. The employee repeated, "No, we're closed," with no acknowledgment or empathy for the situation. I completely understand that stores have closing procedures and that policies must be followed. However, what upset me was not simply being told no--it was the complete lack of compassion. Working in a store that serves children and families, I would have expected at least a kind response, such as, "I'm so sorry you're going through this, but unfortunately we're unable to accommodate your request because we're closed." Instead, we were met with coldness and dismissal during one of the most difficult moments my family has experienced. Even though we were only asking for the bear to be stuffed--not to shop or browse--the request was met without any empathy. I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years, and I never imagined I would leave feeling so disappointed. Sadly, after this experience, I do not plan on returning. This Build-A-Bear Workshop is inside Ontario Mills. There is plenty of mall parking in the lot outside. We have been waiting for after the holidays for some more new selections and we were in the area, so we stopped by here to check them out. Decent amount of customers here on a weekday afternoon - there were 2 employees working, but 1 of them disappeared to the back a very long time, so there was only 1 employee working and she was helping a group of customers at the counter. We had questions, so we ended up deciding to just grab one item and leave, but we still have to wait awhile, as there is only 1 employee on the floor. read more

Brought my daughter and her boyfriend here this morning to kick off the celebration for her 16th birthday! We were greeted immediately and when my daughter stated it was her birthday, she was given a birthday sticker as well as a crown. There's a lot to see here when you factor in the actual stuffed animals and then all the outfit options. They already have their Christmas items in as well. There's sports outfits, comic book super hero outfits, and more! Snoopy has sold out in stores and is only available online. You can then bring him in to have him stuffed. They really do a good job personalizing the experience. Customize your build-a-bear with a customized recorded message or choose from a stock recording. My daughter and her boyfriend got matching bunnies and they each recorded a message for the other. Just be warned, once you're done recording, it plays over the speaker in the store. My daughter was so excited she didn't listen to the instructions and panicked a little when her message played in the store. Honestly, it was pretty funny and I wasn't mad about a little good clean embarrassment for the birthday girl LOL! At the filling station, they have you step on the pedal to fill the stuffed animal. Then there's a little ceremony for the placing of the heart. They have a station for giving them a bath and grooming them. Then you can get an outfit, dress them, and finalize with the birth certificate. It can get a little pricey with the different add on options and the amount of outfits you can select. The basic option without outfits is comparable to what you'd find elsewhere I believe. I hadn't taken my kids to Build-A-Bear in MANY years. worst manager ever. My boyfriend and I walked in to shop for someone, and while we were browsing the selection, the manager Mona was quickly passive aggressive with us, mocking us for "tossing and unfolding everything" then proceeded to keeping a close eye on us thereafter. After our selection, we were about to walk around the store when she said with annoyance "do you guy know what to do next?" So my boyfriend asked what to do next, and that's when we were met with more passiveness. She said "well you're NOT going to get clothing cause you're not even going know if it's going to fit, you need to get it stuffed" that's when she handed us over to another associate Citaly (who was very kind) and loudly started talking bad about us. Saying things like "help them only if they ask for it, I don't know what's up with them, they're over there so angry for no reason so watch out for them." She treated us like we were stupid and rude customers when we were just lost. The only reason I didn't leave the bear my son picked out was due to it being a gift but my experience in this store today was awful My son is only 2 years old and just like any toddler they are very curious and interested in things So where in the voice recoding section when a worker approaches us asking is we need an audio and we said no we are still looking thank you. And at that point their was another lady picking out her bear and the same employee that asked me if I needed help pretty much yelled across to her asking if she will want a audio recording and she stated yes but she still wasn't at that step and it was then that the employee told me again if I needed help and I stated no we are still looking at them and she told me that I would need to hurry because there is someone waiting when no one was even around us And it was at that point that I just put the things down walked to the register and let them know that they have bad customer service and as we are leaving she started yelling at me saying I'm a TERRIBLE PERSON!!! We had a great time visiting Build a Bear workshop in the Brea Mall. We went for our sons fourth birthday. They had a good selection of stuffed animals. The employee that helped us was friendly, kind and patient with our autistic son. This location is rather small compared to other build a bears I've been to. They didn't have the bathtub "washing" station. They also had very limited selection of clothing. To be fair we did visit on New Year's Day so they were bringing out valentines items from the back and moving the floor stock around. read more

While preparing to pay for our purchase, I asked a question regarding the voice recording, and if it was still available. There were other customers behind us. Kim took the time to answer the question while ringing us up, and offered to open our bear so that we can place a recorded message in the bear. She walked us through the recording process, placed it in the bear and re-stuffed the bear. She was very kind and wanted to ensure that we were satisfied. To end the great customer service, Isabella had just arrived at the check out, and immediately began stitching the bear and sharing how she cares for her bears. Both of these ladies were AWESOME!! I took my niece to Build-A-Bear Saturday evening. We had such a pleasant experience and everyone was very kind and patient. My niece loved the whole experience and we are planning on making her birthday party here. The line was short and fast, the workers were patient and cheerful, and it was overall fun! My only complaint would have to be a cashier, blond with glasses, who was complaining to customers about how much she dislikes her job and boss. This was my daughters youngest daughters first experience at Build a Bear and it was AMAZING!!! The customer service was top notch as soon as we entered the store she received help choosing a bear. It was a Saturday so we waited in a small line for stuffing as they had a whole Girl Scout troop in there also. But they made sure everything ran smoothly and you didn't feel lost in the crowd. This location is one of the closer workshops to home, but they were out of sanrio :( not a large selection of accessories either. I ended up getting two pairs of glasses. I walked around the store and couldn't find much nice clothing except for an overpriced sundress. As for the Sanrio collection, I got them all except for My Melody. So if anyone knows where they still have some Melodies lying around, let me know asap so I can complete my collection! Join the stuff for fur club because you'll get points for purchases and they'll send gift certificates when you reach a certain amount of points. I also get coupons every so often that are very beneficial. My bears and hello kitty's are usually naked. They get quite pricey with full outfits, but I'm also not into the whole dressing up your bear thing. read more

I am a brand new foster mother and in the midst of me getting two children which are both black girls, they both have the same birthday month but are a year apart. I initially went in for them to get a birthday bear and I was so upset of how we were treated. I couldn't find build a bear in the mall so I called and Victoria answered and was just rude to me like she was like "duh" almost when I asked where they were located. I saw another birthday family with another employee and their experience was loud and fun. My girls accidentally stepped on the lady and went to close and before I could pull the baby back she jerked her leg like it was a problem. She never smiled, EVER, never engaged in them, only had one birthday hat and didn't give it to us, I had to ask at the counter and I just felt embarrassed. I had outfits and shoes for the bears but put all of that back when I finally got to the counter. The staff at this store definitely needs some type of customer service training. I usually have a lot to say but I just put everything back I was going to buy and just pay for the bears since we were already there. I will never come to this location again. The cashier was acting as if she were irritated I didn't know my email. I'm looking for what email it was and she didn't ask me for my phone number until about 3 mins after I'm standing there looking for the correct email I used. She stated "if you wanna get the bears for the birthday price you need that email". I can afford anything in that store but yet she had me standing at the cash register that long when she could have asked for my phone number when she saw me looking for it. I don't want this to be a race thing but how my two little black children were treated compared to others in the store with the same birthday is not ok. I am also calling corporate because I assume that they feel like it's ok to treat black kids that way and not any one else in the store. The kids are not related, they are foster kids with the same birthday month in November. I am upset and I will be following up with corporate. If you guys are black and have a kid with a birthday they will treat your kids like they are annoyed with them at this location. My baby wanted to do the bear bath and I didn't know how to work it, she yelled across the store directions on how to use it instead of getting up and walking 2 steps and just kindly showing her what to do. The staff tends to be younger but still seem to take the job very seriously or as serious as you can when you work around kids and stuffed animals. The bears themselves are in very good condition, along with the clothes but there isn't a huge amount of clothes all together. I do have to say over all the bears + the clothes are worth the money. When you're a member of the Build A Bear Bonus Club, they have the Count Your Candles offer. This offer gets your child a bear where you pay their age up to $14. It had been years since I stepped in a Build A Bear (actually the Pay Your Age promotion disaster reminded me of its existence) so I figured it was time to give it another shot. We walked in and were greeted almost immediately by one of the staff. I told them why I was there and got us a birthday sticker, birthday hat and an unstuffed "Birthday Treat Bear". BTW, an early shout out to the whole staff here. Everyone here was so friendly and always smiling. I was under the impression they really enjoyed working there. If they don't, I was totally fooled. Anyway, once you get your bear you can pick out some scents, record a voice message or add the vibrating heart. The kiddo opted for the latter and she got to stuffing. Once that was done, they sewed it up and you could choose outfits and get the birth certificate printed out. While the clothes aren't really cheap, I was OK with the prices when you compare it to American Girl (!!!). PSA: If your bear starts feeling a bit flat, you can take it there to get restuffed at no extra charge. My daughter had so much fun looking at everything and getting her bear right, I was real glad I made the choice to stop by Build A Bear. The staff was incredible and made the kiddo feel like a rock star. I'm probably going to get stuck buying clothes for said bear for a while but that's OK. Highly recommended! read more

I've brought my kids here for their birthdays before and they've always been great, this past week I took my son for his birthday to get his birthday bear. As a veteran that served in the military I always get my military discount here. Well this time the manager Veronica was very rude and did not want to give me the discount. She even took her time to try and ask the other manager that I should not get one. Long story short the other manager told her yes he does get one and she made a face, didn't apologize and was very rude. I hope something is done about this manager because if she's in leadership position and something simple like this will get her mad and make the customer feel bad then I wonder how other customers are treated. Definitely will never come back to this location again. As a veteran I felt humiliated and not appreciated. read more
