We went to this store to buy a birthday bear for my toddler. You pay the amount depending on how old your child turned (you get the discount only if you are a club member). Since my daughter's birthday was this month and she turned 2, the bear was $2 plus whatever accessories you buy for it. We bought a 10 second voice recording ($9.50) which was put inside the bear. We decided to buy other accessories like clothing next time. They also have a $25 bundle you can buy for the birthday bear which includes 2pcs of clothing, 1 accessory, and a voice recording. We decided not to get that. The store is big and has a large selection. It really was a workshop. The staff walked through the process. We even created a birth certificate for the bear. It was cute. It made me wish it was my birthday to get one. There's always next year. It was a shame that they didn't have a bathroom. I had to change my toddler's diaper and was told to find another place outside of their establishment for it. I was surprised they didn't have one. read more

I've gone to Build a Bear with my daughter when she was younger so I know they have had stores for a long time. This is a great location and so much fun to go with my friends who have children. It was pricy about 28-40 dollars a stuffed animal but the staff were really nice and cooperative. They had a lot of different bears to choose from and you could even name your animal! Its a good place to go get a stuffed animal but if over 28 dollars is too pricy for you, then maybe get a pre made one, or a mini bear that they have but its premade. read more

I love Build-A-Bear... Over the years, I have personalized bears for friends and family for birthdays, and celebratory occasions. I even got a bear or 2 for myself, because I will never be too old to love teddy bears. It's the kid in me :) I have come to this location on 34th street a few times, and have never had a problem. It's much smaller than the previous location on 42nd street which had a downstairs which could accommodate kids parties, but I like simplicity. It's small, & straight to the point. Pick out your bear, clothe it, stuff it, personalize it, and go. I recently graduated, and recieved the cutest graduation bear. It has been sitting on my bed ever since, because it's too cute to be anywhere else. Not only is it cute, it's a reminder of my hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. I'm pursuing my graduate degree, and still have a ways to go, but my teddy bear has been keeping me motivated. Every time I look at it, I feel proud of myself. Build-A-Bear is always a fun place to go, but it's a little pricey. I'm not sure if this one is more expensive because it's by the Empire State Building, but a bear costs around 20, but if you want a dog, frog, or bat, it's gonna be anywhere from 20-40, so a little more expensive. You stuff the bear and add in extra, and you can pick out cloth for them if you like. The staff were kind and checked up on us a few times. A bag is a little more expensive than I thought, so bring a bag before you go unless you're fine with paying 8 dollars for one. (The bag was reusable and was high quality). All workers were pleasant and had an upbeat attitude (which seems expected for a build-a-bear). Storie was clean and cool, and had a reasonable selection. Not a fan of this location. I agree with other reviews in regards to the confusing layout but the level of service was anything but amazing. There wasn't any personal feeling while making a bear and it seems that they just want to get it over with. The staff really lacked any enjoyment or passion in helping out and most were just huddled together talking. The plus is, they have a great amount of bears and accessories though. Also, did not like the fact that you either buy a $5+ bag or walk out of the store holding a stuffed animal in the middle of NYC. She brought my son a crown and sticker, acknowledging our special occasion. I loved that the store was so compact. Everything needed for a custom-made furry friend was just a few steps away, with numbered sections for a smooth process. So grateful for the late operating hours, because there were no lines at 6:30 p.m. My son went with Chase from Paw Patrol with the "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" song from Lion King and a heartbeat. Jennifer brought such great energy as they brought Chase to life with the right amount of stuffing, plenty of love, and warmth. Today I had an amazing loving experience at this build - a -bear! It's been so long since I've been however it's still the cutest most fun special thing you can do on a day off! Came here on a windy Friday afternoon and it was very crowded. Lots of staff was available however, the staff was just standing around not really engaging with the customers. I had to navigate the store myself at least there were numbers for each station. I have to give props to the staff that were helping to filling the bear with stuffings. Lots of selection to choose from the cheapest bear is $20.00. The outfits cost more than the bear itself. I was disappointed that the store ran out of the bear boxes. read more

You get to choose outfit for your bear. It doesn't have to be a bear. They have a variety of stuffed animals that you can choose. Be cautious! They are very good at sales. They will offer you many things. Remember to say no (hard to say no to these nice ladies, I know). Each time when u say yes, it means more money u will pay. They will offer you scent for your bear when they are pumping up ur bear, at the check out they will offer u more items. Just say no to all of them if you don't want to spend too much. read more

We bought my build a bear here. I got a Charmander. The selections here is not a lot but a good amount were bears. I kind of wish they had more Pokémon stuff for the stuff animals. Although the selection of Charmander, Pikachu, and bulbasaur is great for any Pokémon fans. You can add a sound and heartbeat which I did for Charmander. They also allow you to put a scent so if you're getting this for a significant other bring your cologne? Not exactly sure how that works but I would recommend bringing the cologne just in case. You can get a birth certificate for the stuff animal which is free and a bag to put your stuff animal. All of the things I got was worth $80. read more

I don't want to go back to this store because of the manager Eunice. Every time I've gone in she's been rude and miserable. she's harassed me about my medical alert service dog who is completely behaved and does her job, she's been dismissive about any questions she's asked and says she can't answer anything, and every time I see her I get a sick feeling that there's going to be a problem. She's a terrible manager who obviously hates her job. No manager of Build a Bear should be so miserable. read more

Where are the employees?? 2 employees stuffing and one register open the weekend before Christmas led to lines over an hour long. I would give even less stars but the employees working were trying so hard to 1) give each child the full experience and 2) move the insane lines along. I was here for a birthday party and while the hostess and other staff were great the manager on staff Eunice was absolutely deplorable. One of the party guest had an accident and she went out of her way not only to humiliate the child but also the parent. She had no customer service and was very argumentative in front of a group of children. Her behavior ruined what started out as a great birthday celebration. We visited this store on the afternoon of 16 August 2018 and the staff were helpful and nice in this shop. However we were short of time and the manager had 6 floor staff standing around waiting to help people if they needed it and one staff member on the check out. We stood behind 12 people in a line and waited 50 minutes to pay. i almost left the bears and walked out as I was so frustrated. I asked to speak to the manager and he/she refused to come out.
