I visited the new location in roosevelt field for the first time to get a gift. I knew I wanted the capybara and from the start, I was asked if I needed any help. The service was super nice all throughout and helpful! The process of having it stuffed is also so cute and something I haven't done since I was a kid. This thing really is the cutest , I had to include the little ramen you can place on the stuffed animals, it was so adorable. We brought my son here to get the birthday bear for a $1 which they advertise as paying based on their age - so it was my son's first birthday. We get there and they are kind of awkward about giving me the bear but they do. Then we go to the machine and my son is barely walking but is trying to stomp the button to fill the bear. The girl had attitude to me that we had to hold it down which I thought was ridiculous. So I just did it. Then I bought a ticket to Hogwart's to go with the bear, not seeing anything else too exciting and my son wasn't having a good time. They tried to push my buying more stuff and just weren't very friendly. The birthday promotion is good value but I don't recommend this location and don't plan on going again. We went there for my nephew on the 5th and had a lovely time. I cannot say this enough the staff are phenomenal. They truly go above and beyond to give the kids the best experience. My only issue is the size of the store. I cannot imagine how loud it must get in such a small space. I loved the original spot in the mall it was more open and kid friendly. This is the size of a studio apartment which takes away some of the magic. But the staff make the best of it and make it an extremely positive environment. They better be paid their worth x20. We did the whole Build a Bear experience except recording a voice. There was a selection of animals to choose from. We ended up choosing the Bear with sparkles on it. The store creates an assembly line to creating the customized stuffed animal. The process begins with recording your voice that part I believe is additional. The next step is stuffing the animal, which is done by a staff member. You can insert a heart to make a wish inside the bear. The staff member sews up the Bear. Then you can fluff the Bear. We decided to dress the bear. Then you came name the Bear and get a birth certificate for it. It was a fun experience especially for kids. There have a club where you can sign up and get discounts and promotions. They also have birthday parties there too (maybe that's something I'd explore). read more

We've been to this Build-A-Bear a few times now and have noticed that their selection of bears is quite limited and more expensive compared to what's on their website. They have a lot of the Disney, Pokemon, Harry Potter, and other character bears but don't have many of the cute pastel ones. Such a great Friday afternoon, to go take my beautiful niece to Build-A-Bear!! She literally got the whole store to herself only us and the workers! The workers was super polite very helpful!! I told them it was her bday and they automatically asked for Her she and came back with a cute sticker that says it's my 4th birthday, and a birthday crown which I must say she did not want to put her hat on cause she only wanted to wear her birthday crown!! They allowed us to pick a birthday teddy bear, which I only paid $4.00 such a great deal!! Build a bear has a awesome thing for your kids bday you pay for the birthday bear the age they turn. I also purchased chase from paw patrol that's all she wanted to build at build a bear!! One hour later we made a full blown Paw Patrol chase doll and a a birthday teddy bear/Maribel! This store is huge with furry creatures and sits inside Roosevelt Field Mall. I am completely enamored with teddy bears. The love of my life heed the hope within my mind of adding a teddy bear to my collection. Build-A-Bear offers the traditional teddy bears, bunnies, frogs, dogs and all things stuffed animals of traditional plush toys. The staff is well trained to work with children having patience, compassion and are very accommodating. The experience is fully interactive and direct hands-on process from selecting the plush toy to stuffing, kissing the heart to make a wish, sewing the plush toy, choosing clothes and the optional customize digital voice recording message. I was instructed by a staff member to kiss the small red satin heart, then jump up and down and make a wish and place it inside my new teddy bear. Aww, a very cute concept of having a heart inside and I think all teddy bears should have a heart for compassion and unconditional love. The staff wears a apron, hones a needle and thread to sew the plush toy permanently intact. The final sewing is well handcrafted permanently secure for longevity and completely invisible to the eye. The store has visible signage for the walk through process which is easy to follow as a family activity to keep children immerse, entertained and occupied. There is a stuffing machine is that continuously mixing traditional stuffing where children watch your plush toy get stuffed (no pesky small toy hazard of plastic poly pellets are used in Build-A-Bear). I LOVE my beloved teddy bear and hold in my arms day and night as the stuffing is very SOFT. I decided on a Harry Potter wizard theme clothing with robe, hat, and scarf, but no wand. I'm sure children's birthday parties are amazing with lots of activities accompanied by various furry friends. Build-A-Bear is the new millennial post 2000s go-to place unlike the 1980s era children's birthday parties was hosted at McDonald's. Build-A-Bear is every child's activity and every parents' financial challenge where pricing is à la carte for the stuffing, clothing, and customize voice recording message. We came here after the B-A-B promo debacle with our "thanks for trying" vouchers, having dangled the carrot in front of my kids for quite some time, but never actually entering the store. Upon entry, my inner snark was expecting to be on eye-roll overtime, but surprisingly, it was actually an enjoyable experience. Of course, I used vouchers for my purchases (to which, I add, their marketing ploy completely worked... it DID get me in the store). Maybe I enjoyed it more because it was at the end of a weeknight, before store closing, so there was less wait, and less people. The staff there really do take their time with each individual kid to make their experience feel unique & special. At the stuffing station, they even had a ceremony before placing the heart inside the toy. I even saw some big kids (ok, maybe me included) that got involved in the ceremony. I can see why people spend 1-2 hours here (and why that promo day could have ever realistically worked out). My daughter's bear ended up being only $5 after the voucher! Kids loved it, and their giddiness will live on in the memories of my photos. They didn't have any more boxes that night (after the promo day), but they said to save my receipt and they'd be happy to give me some for my purchases when they restock. Stuffers and floor staff all very sweet and accommodating and great with children. This location would have gotten 2 stars without them. The disappointment during this past holiday season is mostly because the assistant store manager and manager of the store seem to be on some strange power trip / attitude and gave the opposite of a friendly and welcoming vibe to customers and I observed how they were rude not only to customers like myself, but to their own staff as well. I "don't think their faces know how to smile" is what a 4 year old I was with said to me about them... if it weren't for the spirit of holidays, I would have left without purchasing the many stuffed animals we did. lol read more

My son loves his new pet! The story behind it made the pet truly special to him. They gave a birth certificate for his new toy also.

Fun birthday party idea. Each child gets a name tag and sits in a roped off area as they wait for everyone to arrive. A party leader greets them and provides them with their name tag. Once everyone arrives, the kids get to go pick their bear/animal they will eventually stuff. They get to then pick a sound and then head off to the stuffing station. The leader then has them pick a heart for their animal as well as little hearts for the birthday child to place in their bear. It's a really cute activity. Then everyone gets to help with the stuffing, followed by wardrobe. Lastly, the whole store is asked to say happy birthday ending in a song. The kids had a blast and they got a nice backpack with a birth certificate for their bear. It does get a little crowded and their restroom was out of service. However, as is my usual guideline, if the kids enjoyed it I'm going to like it. read more

I recall first learning about this location in high school when guys were buying their girlfriends designer styled bears with personalized recorded messages for Valentine's Day and birthdays. Here BAB remains 20 years in the building. Building a Bear is costly. Everything is Alacarte priced. The bears are priced $25-28. Accessories and sounds are an additional $7-15. Prepare to drop at least $50 on a bear. I first visited this location when having portraits taken at JC Penney. On our way out into the mall, BAB was located just across from the department store. My 2 year old daughter chose a large Hello Kitty to build. We stuffed her, mad a wish, did the heartbeat ritual where you kiss a satin heart that is later placed inside the bear. After the bear is stuffed, children move on to the second station which is where they bathe and fluff the animal or character of their choice with a computerized virtual bathtub and dryer. Later the kids move on to the different clothing and shoe aisles where you purchase items that are priced the same retail price of clothes you'd buy for your child. Ranging from (12.95-$15). Id recommend visiting when they have the 2 for $35 sale, however, there's no guarantee your child's character will be included in that sale price. I visited this location yesterday with my daughters. Upon arrival they handed me an empty box to begin the BAB line. My two year old ran off, out the store. I chased behind her. One of the employees came up behind me to ask for the empty BAB box back. I said "here I'm sorry". I took my daughter to the restroom and returned minutes later. I was told we could not enter the store. I asked why. I was repeatedly told by management we couldn't build a bear. Zero explanation! I asked the malls security, who had surrounded the store, about the issue. I was told that the manager said "I was stealing earlier". I was disgusted, shocked and surprised. A retail store that caters to small children, doesn't understand how unpredictable children are? I left with my girls. They were confused as to why they couldn't build a bear. Asking me if they were going to jail! Very unfortunate situation that definitely needs to be corrected. read more

This was my first Build A Bear experience and also probably my last. My daughter just had her 4th birthday, so we decided to get her a birthday bear. But we mostly wanted her to do something kids would normally be able to do regardless of the pandemic. Like any kid who has been mostly stuck in the house for a year, my toddler was super excited to be at Build A Bear. Also, being four, she is unable to read the signs posted in the different areas. So, basically, you are corralled from one zone to another the entire time at the store. Which means lines. Lines for every step of the process of making a bear. So while I, my 1 year old, and four other family members waited on line, Hubby decided to tour the clothes and accessory area of the store with the birthday girl. She grabbed a car (which was probably about $50) and a few things and loaded them in the car. An employee complained to my husband to put everything back on the shelf. First off, he was going to do what we do when my kid wants everything... have HER put it back and choose one thing to buy. Then we are told we are "too close" to another family, even though we are standing on the marks BAB put on the floor to denote six feet. The family ahead of us had a kid that looked about six who kept pulling off her mask, but I guess the employees at Build A Bear only complain when a kid wants to buy something or when you wait on the forever lines.... they don't care if someone is saying "f*ck the CDC guidelines regarding this virus". No mask is okay. Standing where they tell you to is not okay. We dropped over $250 but refused to get the car on principle. My kid had fun, and that's what really matters. We did not get a birth certificate for any of the three dolls and the bath station was also closed. The $7 toy hair dryer died the next day. Also, we couldn't find anything for the My Little Pony doll and didn't want to ask an employee for help since some had been kind of snarky already. Overall, a little more customer service would have made this a much better visit. The toys are really cute and a kid should be able to have fun.... read more

This is a wonderful and different way to keep your child occupied for a couple of hours. Located in the Roosevelt Field Mall next to JC Penney's, it's the same concept as the Vermont Teddy Bear Company but a couple of steps down in the quality. You would think something like this should not take more than a 1/2 hour at tops to get through, but there's actually a whole process that your child partakes in with his/her bear. First, you get to pick out the bear from among maybe 10 different types/styles and PRICES!! Anywhere from $10 - $25 for the bear alone. Next is the stuffing area. Pick out the bear's heart and the staff puts it in your bear, then starts to stuff it until it becomes nice and plump. Then you get to the bathing area where the bear gets "cleaned" up. Just be careful with the type of bear your child picks out and how he/she grooms it because my little one chose a hairy type bear and proceeded to brush the sh*t out of it, pretty much destroyed the poor little thing and got hysterical. But, they were extremely nice and let her pick out another one, free of charge. Then comes the best part, the choice of the outfit(s) AND accessories for the bear. Dresses, bathing suits, sportswear, tops/pants and more. You can also buy the bear shoes, necklaces, sunglasses, toys, it's own car or bed, Ipods, etc. Last but not least, which is actually alot of fun, your child creates the bears Birth Certificate in the computer, choosing it's gender and naming it. Finally, its check out time and your child's new friend is put into a cute little box, complete with airholes and a window. There is also a changing area if your child should choose to dress his/her bear before you leave. The whole Build-A-Bear experience for everyone is just total fun. After all is said and done, yes, this can turn into a rather expensive afternoon, but, the smile on your child's face is "priceless". read more

There is usually some kind of special or sale going on. Although, the last time I went, it was interesting to see the 2 for $? sale was more than the 2 individual ones if purchased separately. I caught that and stayed focused on the one that I already had. Accessories such as scents, sounds, and clothing can really push the cost of one bear up. It's the experience of filling the bear and interacting with the friendly team members that help to make it all special. Don't forget to create a birth certificate for your new pal before you leave. Lines, fluctuate throughout the day and can get long. Keep that in mind if you may be in a rush as bears don't come pre stuffed. I feel like a child and get so excited when I walk in. I want to take every single bear home. They have little underwear for these bears. It's the cutest thing ever. The store is pretty big and the workers are nice. Lots of bears and outfits to choose from. It's such a nice experience and can't wait for my child to enjoying picking out his own bear. I bought a Bear for my mother's bday. She really wanted one and of course I got her one. She was so happy. Her pink bear got cute shoes, a headband a shirt and a cute tutu skirt. I love this store, and so does my toddler! The staff (most) were extremely friendly and helpful, always smiling and very interactive with my 3 year old. Store is clean, organized, not a zoo. Would recommend for a birthday party or just somewhere cool to make new memories with your kid! I asked for help in enrolling in bonus club, one of the staff tried to help me but the manager told her to stop and said that I have to figure the rest out myself. That same day, I seen the manager curse a lady out. How unprofessional and inappropriate!! This is supposed to be a welcoming kid environment. My friend told me the manager almost got into it with another customer but it was very heated and security got involved. Why hasn't anyone found new management for this location yet? I adore BAB. This is the only BAB, I go to. And trust me I am a regular BAB costumer. I got my first one here when I was a kid, and have come back multiple times for new outfits and shoes. Once I got to high school I came back to buy a bear for my conductor, then another for myself! As a college freshman I bought one for a going away gift for my best friend and another mate. Always the staff was sweet, caring, helpful. They did not even ridicule me for being a nineteen year old still buying BAB things! Each time they treated me like I was a kid. And some times even forced me to do the heart routine. The staff here is wonderful! When I had come to get the bear for my best friend, I had actually ended up sobbing like a baby in the store and the staff cried with me and gave me tissues!! Amazing service! They always send out coupons and become a member to get even more coupons. I spent 50 dollars on my first bear (Well, my mum did.). That's the average for a child's bear. Every kid wants all the accessories and what not. But for us adults gifting other adults, the average for a well dressed bear with one trinket is 20-30 bucks. read more
