It's not like my family will stop coming here even though Judy's Pizza is our "go-to" but this place is right down the road and therefore convenient. They seriously need to up their game though in that any and everything they cook in the fryer comes out tasting the same, i.e. like fish. My advice.... Change the oil or at the very least use more than ONE oil to fry with. read more

The food here is ok. The pizza and italien beef is pretty good, but i'm not a fan of the fries. However, I will admit the .99cent hot dogs in July have made my day on more than one occasion. I'm not a huge fan of fried foods, but sometimes you just have a craving and need something quick. That being said, this is a great place for kids and families. read more

Had high hopes based on the positive reviews. Ordered and sat outside, 45 minutes later when we realized customers that ordered after us were already eating we decided to ask. Found out that they packed our food to go and it had been sitting for who knows how long. So we received microwaved food which was not good without any apology or acknowledgement of the mistake. This rating would have been higher had it not been for Buffo's carelessness in the proper packaging of a large thin crust pizza which I ordered as takeout tonight. Of the two large pizzas that I ordered, the one on the bottom did NOT have the plastic support disk to prevent the pizza on top from forcing the bottom pizza's lid into its toppings ... what a mess! And this is the second time within the past few months that I've experienced this lack of quality control. Using the proper packaging tools each and every time should be automatic! Other than that, the pizza pies themselves are quite good ... but what a sorry way to screw up an order and anger a customer ... again! read more

I never eat In though and now i know why. I was appalled by the service and how cheap they have gotten. The owner/manager On duty was so busy flirting with this table Of ladies that he almost Knocked Over my Handicap father using crutches, didn't say sorry, excuse Me, the under paid illegal hispanics there That serve don't speak a word of English, he must have seen me get up 10x for plates, forks, knives, was Happy To help the women but my Family didn't deserve His Time. They have got cheap and gone to styrofoam everything, they wouldnt Give me A water pitcher, no lids to the soda, just really really Cheap and crappy experience. Italian high school buddies introduced me to Buffos in the mid 80s and I've been a regular customer ever since. I generally eat there once a week for lunch with coworkers and once a week for dinner with a big group of family and friends. Expect truly fantastic pizza and made from fresh, good quality stuff. It's the big thing here. (If you stray from pizza, you'll find the pasta made to serve mainly children's tastes as well as typical fast food fare. Also, just to set expectations, this is an order-at-the-counter-and-we'll-bring-it-to-your-table type of place.) There is a decent selection of draft beers sure to suit anyone who likes beer. For example, there are typically American craft beers (Anchor Steam pops to mind) as well as excellent European imports like Stiegl, Pilsner Urquell, and Peroni. There is also a workable selection of wines. Outdoor seating in the summer is always great. In colder weather, it can get crowded inside on Friday and Saturday nights. The upper level tends to be more adult parties whereas the lower level has a couple video games, a lot more families, and a commensurate noise level. TVs tuned to sports are visible from every seating location. The staff has character. The owners Lenny and Joy are gracious. Although I agree with the ratings and comments on the pizza in the past, I made my first visit in a while since going to college down the street. I ordered the steak grinder and a glass of water. I was charged to put normal toppings on the grinder extra and it was basically a burnt bocca burger. Interesting how almost all of the "pans" are "not recommended." I have lived on the North Shore for over 30 years and this has been, consistently, the worst restaurant between the Chicago/Evanston border and Wisconsin. I was forced to go when my kids' sports teams would take them out after a game, but the pizza shouldn't even be called that. More like stale bread with watery tomato sauce. Pasta? Consistently cold and yet overcooked. Beer was always a poor selection. Noisy, slow service regardless of how crowded. Have not been back since my kids stopped sports and see no reason ever to -- or why anyone else goes here. read more

If you're looking for a great Chicago-style Italian Beef, you won't find it here. Their beef is very bland. Just not good. If you get it for take out, the will not dip your sandwich, rather, put the juice in a very small container so you wind up with a very dry beef sandwich. Service is slow and time and again when we were determined to give them another shot, they were rude and didn't care that they were rude. Very over rated place. this is not fancy food. this is food for the people. buffo's is my favorite pizza in the world. i make a hell of a pizza myself, and would take the pepsi challenge with most places pies but not buffos. for some reason it's untouchable to me. the crust sauce and cheese are in perfect harmony. this is not the place to get 12 ingredients on your pie. i love just sausage. it's perfect, consistent, and delicious. read more

Italian beef is very bland, flavorless so if it's a Chicago-style beef you are seeking, you won't find it here. Very overrated place....locals seem to like this place because they're like sheep just following the flock because someone might know the owner, who, just as all the reviews about him have stated, is an angry old curmudgeon. I too didn't hear my name called for take-out and stood there for at least 15 minutes before I inquired as to what was holding up my small order only to have the cashier reached behind him to reach for my bag. I was at your restaurant with my husband a few weeks ago on a Sunday night. We each ordered a burger and when the server came to bring the food to our table she brought three burgers. The cashier made a mistake and the server said its already made, there's nothing we can do about it. Really? Is that good customer service? I'm a catering director and have been in the hospitality business for years and this really made me angry. My husband said it wasn't a big deal so the server put it in the kitchen to keep it warm. Why did it need to be warm, we weren't going to eat that burger. My husband was going to have to eat it for lunch the next day. A few minutes later I told the manager what happened and he didn't say a word! Why wouldn't he say, we will refund the burger or sorry about the mistake. Nothing. I asked him to take the burger out of the warmer because it was just drying it out. Then I asked for the lettuce & tomato and he put it in the bag with his bare hands, no gloves. This is a classic place to get thin crust pizza. Basically you cannot get more fresh ingredients than at this place. Back in the day this place had a solid game room with the classic 80's game "Gatica". The owner of this place originally was part owner of another pizza shop, "IC Boys". Once while I was dining here this guy calls in a pickup order. About 15 minutes later, once the pizza was already made, the guy called back and cancelled the order. The owner of the place, picks up the pizza above his head and yells, "Pizza Pie!", then slam dunks the pizza on the floor in frustration. This was, and is, one high strung dude...but nice nonetheless. read more

Buffo's is the best. It is in Highwood not in Highland Park. Big difference. I think we eat here at least once a week and we rarely order anything other than pizza. They make some of the best thin crust pizza around. Some compare the pizza to Bill's Pizza in Mundelein and there is apparently some story there but in my opinion Buffo's makes better pizza than Bill's. We get a basket of fries and a couple of ice cold beers while we wait for the pizza. The kids take turns pumping singles into the stuffed animal crane game. I can count the animals they have pulled out of that thing on one hand. The service and the food here are consistently outstanding and in my opinion that has a lot to do with the fact that you will rarely set foot in this restaurant when the owner/manager is not there. Friendly guy, not overly friendly, spends time talking to the regulars (highwood cops) and making sure things run smoothly and tables are cleaned up promptly. By the way, and this applies to any restaurant where you dont clear your own table, tipping is appreciated and I would argue warranted when someone else is cleaning up the mess you made. Leave a couple bucks for the effort you tightwad. Only possible knock is that they don't deliver but thats not a huge issue for me because I enjoy the Buffo's experience. read more

A casual pizzeria...good for families or big groups. The place was decorated festively for Christmas when I went. You order the food at the front counter and can seat yourself anywhere. It's a pretty big space with two rooms. You can even watch the game on the flat screen TV's while you eat. read more

Ordered food using the restaurant's website. Something went awry with their site or processing in some way, because 25 minutes after my food was supposed to arrive, we had received nothing. I called Buffo's and was told that I had entered "take out" rather than "delivery" on their site. I informed them that I had entered delivery, and furthermore, I had entered my address, and the bill would even show that I had tipped their driver 20%. I was told that I could have my food delivered, but it had been sitting in the "warmer" for 25 minutes, and it was also going to cost me an additional delivery fee, because again, I had supposedly entered "take out." I did not want food that had been under a heat lamp for 25 minutes, and Buffo's was offering no remedy beyond more time and money, so I cancelled the order. A minute later, I thought of a better solution and called them back, asking for the owner who I know is always there. I figured he would have a satisfactory resolution offer. He offered me no other remedy as well, and still continued to insist that I had ordered wrong. There was no allowing for the possibility that their system failed, no "I'm sorry for whatever happened here, what can I do to fix this?" That is not how one does business. It was extremely frustrating to have to re-explain to the owner that I had entered my address as well as a tip for the driver, only to have him insist I was in the wrong, and the only remedy was going to be to send me food that had been under a warmer for what was now 30 minutes. I cancelled the order again, and let him know that I would not be back to his restaurant or ordering online again in the future, to which he responded "fine." At this time I should say that I was getting heated with him because not only was his response disrespectful and unsatisfactory to someone who only was trying to patronize his business, but he would not let me speak without talking over me. Several days later, I checked my credit card, and although I had cancelled the order, Buffo's compounded the problem by charging me the full amount of the bill for food that never arrived and which had been cancelled. I can only rate this fine establishment for its pizzas which are the bomb! It is quite a little secret outside of our little community that the double decker pizzas here are a one of kind. I have lived in Chicago/Burbs all of my life and yes, Pizzeria Uno, mmmmm, Giordano's mmmmm, but a double decker? TO DIE FOR! And let me tell you how much our taste buds are committed to the Double Decker... We recently moved to California. I came home last month to visit family and brought back three frozen, half baked, large double deckers to cook here in the brick oven. Yes, I paid the checked luggage fee. Would it have just been cheaper to order up some frozen Mulnati's? Absolutely! But, the taste would have paled beyond comparison. Pizza is nonexistent in California, at least as far as the Chicago style I love. So if you are in town and enjoy Pizza P-I-E, pick up a double decker, you won't find anyone else serving up this style and you will become a fan like me! read more

My fish wasn't cooked in the middle. We had 10 people in our party and the restaurant was crowded. The only table available that we could sit at had a reserved sign and other number signs. I asked a staff worker if we could sit at the table that had a reserved sign on it. After being told yes, he removed all the various signs. We were eating our meal when a couple and their kids come in and were upset that we were sitting at our table. The table next to us was now empty and sat the same amount of customers as our table. The owner came to our table and rudely said, there was a reserved sign on this table as he waved the sign. We offered to get up. But the owner lead them to the next table. The couple refused to sit at the next table and kept staring at us so the owner told us we had to move since our table was reserved. The couple were well dressed and acted as if they were privileged and more important than everyone else. We got up and moved to there table so they could have our table. The owner then said rudely, I'll clean this off for you. The food wasn't cooked the owner treated us rudely. read more
