Pricing is spectacular for what awaits you once you pass the cashier/hostess. I went with a large group around the holidays. I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity of items that awaited us. The salad station had a few exotic fruits that were a delight to taste? There were 4 stations with hot items, a dessert bar, ice cream, soft drinks station, and a teppanyaki style station with lots of fresh raw items and sauce to create the perfect on demand dish!! Not bad! This buffet is in the old Hometown Buffet location off of Palomar. The restaurant was been completely renovated from those days, and I think maybe even expanded from the original footprint of Hometown. It felt so much bigger. Cost on a weekend is about $24 a person. Not cheap, but not bad either. There was an automatic gratuity added to our bill that I didn't noticed until later. Food was ok...typical Chinese buffet. The buffet lines had many options. There is a Hibachi station where you can get your noodles with whatever you want in it. This was good, but needs more flavor. They were not so giving on the sauce they add to it in the cooking process. Restaurant was packed!!! But it is very clean and the remodel from what I remember back in the days, is very nice. I came here with the lady and in-laws recommended on her previous experiences, which she mentioned that it was basically the same as our nearby favorite Chinese buffet- Elite buffet in Lemon Grove. After visiting, I disagreed- definitely a star less or more. The noticeable difference was this place has a Mongolian grill. So this was the main draw for me initially. It was a letdown since the items from the meats to noodles were very mediocre. The noodles literally looked like spaghetti but with a slightly different texture. Most things across the board were on the bland side. But the place does get pretty crowded, mainly because of the value. All you can eat is always appealing, but for me it's gotta be worthy. As it is, overall after the pandemic, buffets are sorta far and few between from here to Las Vegas. So when you do find a quality one as we have close to home, I'm thinking maybe you should just stick with that. I would probably come back, but for sure not go out of my way to come here. read more

There is a hot food section with many entree choices, a salad bar, a dessert bar, a sushi section, a fruit section, soup station, and a teppanyaki station. The food was fresh and being replenished regularly. The service was good. They were great about clearing out plates from the table. Went to Buffet House for lunch this afternoon because I was in the area with my mom and she wanted to go. She had been here before and said she liked it. It was my first time here. Prices were reasonable - about $18 for an adult lunch, seniors are $2 off. The restaurant was very busy, but had plenty of tables and booths available. It also appeared very clean. I actually wasn't very hungry at the time, but I did have a cup of soup, as well as a plate with a few items. While it wasn't amazing, it was decent buffet food, with plenty of options. Perhaps if I had tried more items, I would have found something I liked, but what I had was okay. They also had a dessert bar with small pastry bites, cookies, and soft serve. One of the better Asian buffets in the area! Came here with a party of 12 and they were so great in accommodating our large party so fast. Would come back here with family again! When we were there, they were constantly refilling the pans with freshly made items so nothing was ever empty and we were able to try a little bit of everything. My family and I have frequent diner piles here at Buffet House. We've been fans of this buffet ever since they were in their old location, which isn't too far from their present location. Buffet House should be a foodie destination not because it's the best buffet around, but for value for your money, I honestly believe you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is located in Chula Vista utilizing the 5 South freeway, exiting off of Palomar Street, and heading east. Buffet House can be found within the outdoor strip mall called the Palomar Retail Center. It is across the street from Food 4 Less, Ross, dd's Discount, and Dairy Queen. Buffet House is next to CA. Billiards, Original Dresses and Brides, FAJAS, and Mariscos La Perla Negra. Buffet House is a popular buffet, so if you visit during peak dining hours, expect to wait to be seated. You can make reservations for large parties, so call in advance. There are plenty of parking spaces inside their private lot. Inside the restaurant is a large dining space that have wooden tables and cushioned chairs. There are booth seating and our large family usually eats inside their party rooms, which are decorated with flowers on their wall panels. Their flooring is distressed laminate, there are faux brick walls, decorative lighting fixtures, and framed artwork and hung wall decor throughout. The wait staff are hard working young folks, who deserve tips if you're feeling generous, and the staff where you pay before you start gluttony are friendly and personable. My family and I were celebrating our matriarch's birthday, so we reserved a table for 13 inside their large party room. I made sure to fast for more than 20 hours before I started my devour fest because like I said, we've been here many times and know how much food they serve. Buffet House has an impressive Hibachi Grill where you select vegetables, proteins, and noodles and give what you choose to an employee who will grill the food and make it tasty. Make sure to tip them. The majority of their food choices are Chinese, but they also have grilled meats, sushi, American food, an impressive salad bar, soups, desserts, and a self serve soft serve ice cream machine. With your buffet price, their drink station has Pepsi products and there are agua frescas. I'm a fan of this buffet because of their unlimited drinks and quality selection. My go to food items here at Buffet House are the following: orange chicken, all the items on their Hibachi grill station, stuffed mushrooms, baked scallop, lo mein, fried rice, fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, and their chicken wings. Their food is fresh, hot, and is prepared well. The diligent staff quickly replaces serving dishes once an item gets low. I really enjoy their food that I'll usually eat 4 to 5 plates. My kids asked for a buffet so I found the Buffet House and took them there. It was a weekday and busy, but we found somewhere to sit pretty quickly (you seat yourself). The 3 of us cost around $55 for lunch. At first, it didn't seem like tables and plates were being cleared quickly enough, but as we sat there, plates were cleared quickly. I observed that it took the restaurant staff some time to clear tables. The food was okay and as soon as something was running low, it was replenished. There was a good variety of food, but nothing spectacular. I did like the fact that there was the buffet foods, sushi, hibachi, desert, and drinks. Did I mention the restaurant was crowded? I kept bumping in to people because it was really crowded. I probably wouldn't visit again. The food was okay, just not as good as I would have hoped. Me and the kids LOVE this place! I have NEVER seen a buffet place as such! It is ALWAYS clean, well organized and the customer service from the staff (which is an IMPORTANT thing to me that will make or break my decision to revisit anywhere) is OUTSTANDING! We had planned to go to a all you can eat Chinese buffet in national City, I had tried calling because we were throwing my 18 year old grandson a birthday party but nobody answered the phone and there was no recording of anything indicating that they were closed for safety issues. When everybody arrived I had to tell them the bad news that they were closed and I had no idea when they were going to reopen. I told everybody I tried calling but I didn't get no answer. So we found this little spot called BUFFET HOUSE in Chula Vista. That day my grandson just wanted to go eat Chinese food for his birthday and I really wanted it to be a special day for him. When we walked in the service was excellent they were very nice and it was clean not only that they stated that we could bring our cake in and our balloons. And the food OMG 10 out of 10. Not only was my grandson happy I was extremely happy to make his dream come true. ( My daughter which is my grandkids mother was murdered so I try to make their birthdays and holidays very special, because I know their mama was very special and she loved her kids) He had all his friends and family there with him. I mean we had planned this for over 2 weeks. And then the cashier came up to us and asked us how did we like our first time there, because I had explained to her what had happened. And I stated to her not only did my family and friends love it but I did as well and we will be coming back and that is going to be our number one place for all you can eat buffet I offered my grandson other places to go eat but nope he wanted Chinese food!!! And I'm really glad I found this spot. They had all kinds of sushi lots and lots of different foods and then they even had this section where you could pick out your meat and vegetables or seafood with your noodles and they cook it for you right there. And the price was very good you pay one price and that includes a drink. The other place we were going to was more $$$$ not only did you have to pay for your buffet you also had to pay for your drink at the other place which was $5 per person for a drink. First time here last Sunday. Food, customer service, and place is great. Once we got inside, ambiance was great. I gave 3 stars just because the lines seemed unorganized. They should have two separate lines, one for walk ins and one for people who had reservations. I had 15 people with me with reservations,got there on time, and since the line was all the way outside, I had my family walk Inside the cashier so I can pay for everybody. Some people are just dumb and rude and were verbally telling my elderly family that we were cutting lines. All I can say is be smart and call ahead for reservations, and ignore those uneducated, smart ass people. Otherwise, food was great. read more

My family arrive at around 5:30PM and expected a long wait time since it was the start of most restaurants' dinner rush. However, the wait time was fairly short! Especially since they only had one cashier handling the customers entering the buffet. I think the only criticism I would say for service is that the lady working the cashier was helping my dad pay for our table of 4. He showed her a valid military ID and her response was "I know that is fake but I'll still put the discount in." I understood this as a joke however I can understand in my dad's point of view how that can be offensive. I just feel like it was a poorly delivered and timed joke as my dad served in the military for 24+ years. While eating, they were very quick to pick up our dirty dishes after we finished our rounds of food. Food was pretty worth the price you're paying for (total: about 99 for 4 people 1 with military discount). Also, they don't accept military discounts if you're a dependent. However, I wish there was more selection/variety of food. If you're expecting Chinese-American staples like fried rice, chow mein, and broccoli beef, this buffet has a lot of that. Another thing I would like to note is that the sashimi my sister and dad got from the sushi station was frozen and they were not able to enjoy eating it. The hibachi station was a stand out as well! We also wished that the beef was cut into smaller pieces for easier eating. We also would've liked to see more fruit options since there were only pineapple and grapes. Something my sister really enjoyed was the horchata drink as well as the Jamaica drink. Ambiance was very nice. Normal noise level for a buffet. Weekend dinner buffet is $23.99 but the quality of food is worse than some of the $16.99 lunch buffets in the area. There's hardly any quality seafood (they have the cheap fried crabs and some average shrimp dishes, that's it), tons of carb heavy filler food and most of the sashimi was frozen solid. The only good thing is, the drinks are included and besides your average Coca Cola products, you have all you can drink horchata and Jamaica. Service was non existence, everything was DIY. You pay for the food upfront before you enter, you seat yourself, fetch your own drinks, and the only time you'll see any staff interact with you was when they take your food away. I had my baby with me and none of the staff would fetch me a high chair.
