The real stars of the meal were the Café de Olla and the Cinnamon Pancake (pro tip: order one for the table to share as dessert!). The beef birria tacos come with so many accompaniments -- a full bowl of chopped onions, fresh cilantro, limes, and radishes. Our server didn't speak much English so be ready to use google translate if you don't know much Spanish, but we had no issues communicating and ordering. There are restrooms available as well. La Guadalajara specializes in birria, or Mexican stewed meats, and their food really hit the spot!…read moreSince they offered a variety of meats, ordering the tacos was a great way to sample a variety, and I got the Birria de Borrego (lamb) and the Birria de Chivo (goat), both of which were served in a corn tortilla along with chopped onions, cilantro, lime, radishes, a mild salsa of chopped tomatoes/onions/herbs, a spicy red salsa, and tortilla chips. Both of the meats were tender and delicious, though I slightly preferred the chivo (goat), which was meatier, leaner, and more flavorful. I also especially liked the mild salsa, which had a nice refreshing flavor, and the ability to customize the condiments on each taco. Everything was delicious and came at a good value, and the service was super friendly and attentive too!

You have to be careful when choosing where to eat street tacos in Ensenada (and all of Mexico,…read moreobviously), but Tacos Castillo has never let us down or made us sick. This place absolutely lives up to the hype, and it's a great choice if you're looking to support a small family business and get some fresh and yummy fish tacos. The fish and shrimp tacos are the kind you think about after you've left Ensenada. They're always perfectly battered, crispy without being too greasy, and piled into warm corn tortillas that hold everything together. I highly recommend the traditional fish tacos, which are made with a delicate whitefish that the region is known for. The seafood tastes fresh, the toppings are simple and traditional (with pico de gallo and shredded cabbage), and once you hit it with their creamy green and spicy salsas and a generous squeeze of lime, it's the perfect taste of coastal Mexico. And don't forget to add that cold bottle of Mexican Coke (there's nothing as refreshing on a hot Ensenada afternoon). This is a little taco truck / stand, so be prepared to get in a long line with local workers. There's a very small picnic table for eating, but most folks grab and go. The hygeine practices seem adequate by Mexican standards, but you may want to bring your own hand sanitizer to tidy up before eating. They fry up your seafood to order, and it's so fun to watch! Since this is a very local spot that caters to folks who live and work in town, this isn't located in the main tourist drag. Be prepared to walk to get there but it's worth every step. No frills, no overthinking it, just really good tacos done right. This is the kind of spot where you eat standing up, immediately want another round, and start wondering how soon you can come back. It's cheap (bring pesos for the best deal) and they don't speak English, so break out that high school Spanish when ordering. This is as authentic as it gets.

It's not hard to find, but unlike so any other options, it's not loud or flashy. We weren't ushered in by some guy on the street promising "the best" of anything. It's small, but clean.. you order at the counter.. my wife and I were the only gringos in there, and we don't speak Spanish. We were quickly presented with a sample plate of all the meats available for their tacos. The wife and I each got a Birria taco and I also got a chicken taco with some of the best Mole sauce I've ever had. They had a table set up in back with all the fixings and salsas you could ask for and the tacos came with beans and rice. We grabbed a bottle of water from the cooler, and the whole meal came to $13 with a tip!!! I mean, that's an unbelievable value for your money. The tacos were incredible. The beans and rice were delicious and the corn tortillas were homemade and some of the best we've ever had. The wife and I often use Yelp! to find places exactly like this, and once again, it did not disappoint.
