After a few visits, I figured it's time to finally write a review for Buffalo Mountain Grill. BMG is an unassuming spot--definitely not trying to impress you with its looks. When you walk in, there's no host stand or friendly greeter, just a sign that says, "Seat yourself and let us know you're here." The layout feels a bit patched together, like a restaurant built from spare parts. It's dimly lit, and the interior design doesn't seem like a top priority--so I wouldn't recommend it for a first date or an attempt to impress someone. It has strong dive bar energy, just in restaurant form. There is a small outdoor patio, and the bonus? It's dog-friendly. Inside, there are plenty of TVs, so it leans a bit toward sports bar territory--but without the usual rowdy crowd or game-day vibe. Service has been solid overall. On our first attempt to eat here, they let us know they were short-staffed and wouldn't be able to serve us for an hour. Disappointing, sure--but I appreciated the honesty and that they didn't waste our time. On return visits, service has been on point. We were greeted quickly, our server was helpful and attentive, and food came out hot. There is a bar, but don't expect craft cocktails or a resident mixologist. It's best to keep it simple here: grab a beer on tap or something straightforward like a whiskey neat. Anything more complicated might fall flat. As for the food, it's been consistently good. The hot wings are a standout--crispy with a flavorful hot sauce that actually delivers on heat. I've also tried the fish & chips and the burger; both were solid and satisfying. The only inconsistency was with the side salad. The first time it came out with a fresh spring mix, but on another visit, it was just iceberg lettuce--not a dealbreaker, but a little disappointing. We used to go to Oakey's for our dive-bar wings and casual grub, but Buffalo Mountain Grill has taken that spot for us. It's quirky, no-frills, and definitely not fancy--but they serve up legit food and deliver where it counts. Give it a shot. Just don't come looking for ambience--come hungry. read more

This is the THIRD time this has happened, and I'm officially done trying to give this place chances. Tonight I called at 8:25 and spoke to someone about placing an order. I called back at 8:30 (literally FIVE minutes later) to place the order while I was already sitting outside, and the same man suddenly tells me they're closed. Mind you, the store hours say they close at 10 PM. When I told him I had just spoken to him 5 minutes before, he immediately got hateful and rude, started raising his voice, and then turned the lights off like I was bothering him for trying to order food during business hours. Just 4-5 days ago the SAME thing happened except it was around 9 PM. At this point it's honestly giving pure laziness and unprofessional behavior. I'm really not understanding how this place is still open if employees can just close whenever they feel like it and treat customers like trash. He refused to tell me his name and was literally yelling saying his name is "Buffalo Grille" (???) which tells me everything I need to know. I'm sure I'm not the first customer who's been yelled at or cussed at over the phone. I will be calling every day until I get answers from a manager or owner because this is unacceptable. Great place! So nice to find a place in the area that isn't cookie cutter or corporate. I had a Grumpy Chicken sandwich with some rosemary fries and it was really very good, tasty, fresh and unpretentious. Staff seemed nice, really had a locals vibe to it as every customer in the place seemed to know one another, and were all too happy to get you involved in the conversation. For a minute there, I thought we'd returned to the pre-smart phone era where everyone actually socializes. Prices are more than reasonable and they had a decent selection of beer. We stopped in for lunch as we'd heard about the place. Plain on the outside but don't let that fool you! The inside decor was inviting and warm. Hector, the owner, was super delightful and informative to talk with. The food was fantastic!! We had a local beef burger with all the trimmings with sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked just right, medium rare and the sweet potato fries were delicious. We also tried the grumpy chicken club on a brioche and rosemary fries with aioli sauce. We got into town and could not wait to go try this place. It says it was open until midnight on one site and 2:00 a.m. on another site. We arrived at 9:30 p.m. excited to try the dogs but when we got there, We entered the building and were told they were closed. And we said but the website said midnight at least and the other site said 2:00 a.m. . And the lady's comment was "well, they lied!" So we never got to try it. read more

I tried this establishment for an early dinner during the week, and despite it slight "off-the-beaten-path".location (you can see it from the Turnpike but can't turn off into the parking lot), had no difficulty getting parked and inside. I found the decor pleasant, I particularly recall some prints of European landmarks, etc. The area I sat was only high top tables, but they were comfortable to sit at regardless. And while the lady who served us was clearly overburdened with tables at that time, she took good care of us, more than earning her 20+ percent. The meal was very tasty and well presented. And what I appreciated most, was the value. I am by no means a small person, so it takes a bit more to fill me, and I was fully satisfied for the meal and paid notably less than I have in lesser restaurants in the area. I hope they are not taking a financial hit rather than raising their prices in these times but I appreciate it if they are. will be returning. read more

Stopped here for a late lunch after a visit to Brushy Mountain Prison. We found this spot by way of Google. Upon entering we were informed that credit card processing was not working. No big deal, cash is king and always carry it anyway. We picked our table and was promptly given menus and drinks. Good start so far. The dining area is very clean and looks to be updated recently. We both ordered burgers, I got the farm to table and she got the American classic. Everything arrived and it was exactly as described and hot. That smokey Benton's bacon just never disappoints. The fries were not boring either. Usually I can take or leave the fries, these were very good. All the relish for the burgers was fresh, I wish I had taken a picture of them to compare with my trip to Jonathan's Grille. We will definitely make the trip to Oak Ridge to come back and try more of the menu. My only suggestion to the owner/manager is to fix the leaky roof. They had a bucket in the men's room to catch the ensuing flood on the floor. I am not docking a star for this. But I would think the health inspector might. If you want great food at a fair price with excellent service you need to try this place. It's that good! read more

Prices went up, menu selection went down. Good beers like Two Hearted left and cheap nasty local brews arrived. There are NO IPA's anymore? Service and the meals sizes look unchanged but the strong beers have been purged and it's no longer our "go-to" place. Hope it can bounce back. The current economy is changing menu's, I understand its a challenge to run a place like this, but the food is becoming run of the mill with no one item really standing out. Service was slow even though they were not busy. Maybe it is due to their awkward room layout? There is no beer list; you have to walk up to the bar since the server does not know what is on tap. The wings were 25% off for happy hour. At least that is what I think the percentage is since the receipt was just confusing. The math on the receipt did not add up at all, but overall we got $4.5 off and that is 25% of our $18 wings. Did we get charged for the ranch? It says so on the menu but again, it was not noted on the receipt. but our total price for the wings on the receipt was not $18 or $13.5 or $18+dip price. We would have asked but the service pretty much disappeared so we never got to figure this out. read more

I came here during lunch and well, at first I was a little excited. I ordered a simple salad and chili, while there was nothing wrong with the food I had problems with the check and the amount I had to pay for. First off. Don't trust the menu prices. Prices on there are probably wrong and they'll charge you a different amount. So, my question: why even have prices on the menus then? I guess this restaurant is too lazy to change the prices on the menus. I ordered the salad and chili thinking that it would be $5.49 for both (listed on the menu). After my meal was all done and I got my check...Interesting, it's $6.49 now. I asked the waiter what's the deal and she said that the price changed and sorry. My impressions of this was that they would honor the price on the menu and until they change the menu price they would give me the menu price. Nope. I just went ahead and paid the extra dollar or so. It's not a big deal, but it's still the principle of having a menu with prices in the first place. Food: Salad, well it's a salad. Nothing special. Chili was more black beans than anything else, not that much meat, and a small amount of cheese. I think this place is definitely more of a place I would come to just drink and not eat. (But who knows, the beer prices are probably wrong too!) Don't expect to get the menu prices on some items, is what I'm going to say about this place. Next time I come here, I'll probably ask what the real prices are before I even order it. read more

Yum! Husband and I got Buffalo burgers and they were very tasty! Everything tasted fresh and the burger was big enough to bring half home for later. We also got the pretzels with beer cheese and their honey mustard. Next time I could just make a meal out of them they were so good. We can't wait to go back and try the elk and wings. read more

The "Buffalo Mountain" part could refer to the mountain near Oak Ridge where the region's only wind farm is located, or "Buffalo" could be a reference to the buffalo burgers and buffalo chicken wings they serve. There's no question about the meaning of "Grille," though -- it's a good description of this eatery. The menu at Buffalo Mountain Grille features a variety of burgers and sandwiches, fish & chips, seafood plates, salads, soups, and munchies (a.k.a. appetizers). A distinctive feature of the food menu is the selection of unusual meats -- in addition to standard beef, the burger menu features buffalo, elk, wild boar, ostrich, and Piedmontese beef. In keeping with the name "Grille," Buffalo Mountain accommodates customers who are more interested in drinking than eating. My family and I visited this evening. I was a little unsure as to where to walk in, we had our 4 year old with us so I didnt want to mob up in the bar. When we walked in there was a sign that said take a menu and seat yourself. There were no menus, so we hust seated ourselves. As others have stated the layout is odd, we sat in the front room. The waiter/bartender came out promptly to take our drink orders. They had a good selection of regional/microbrews and I was plesantly surprised by the size of the menu and the options! Our waiter was excellent and followed up with us regularly. My husband got the elk and boar sausage platter. It was quite a bit of food! Hr especially enjoyed the elk sausage. We also had the beer and pretzels to start, very good, my 4 year old was a fan. I got the grilled tuna and shrimp. The tuna was a little dry but had good flavor. We both got a beer too, decent prices for high grav. I was hesitant to try this place, because of the reciews. I'm glad we did though and we will go again! read more

I decided to checkout the Buffalo Mountain Grille while in Oak Ridge. It's a nice place two seating areas and a small bar. The bar is where I spent my time. It has 5 small round top tables and of course the bar itself. The staff was very friendly. Including myself, there were about 10-12 people there and everyone seemed to know everyone else. I ordered 10 Y-12 (the hottest they serve) chicken wings. They were very tasty and the spice was excellent, leaving a pleasant burn in my mouth. I do enjoy excessively spicy food! I finished the wings and ordered chips and salsa to snack on while watching the basketball game on the TV. The chips were made right there and not the store bought variety. They were nice, just needed a sprinkling of salt. The salsa was also prepared fresh there and was flavorful as well. The menu also has a variety of more unusual meats such as Elk and Bison to name a few. This just means I'll have to stop in again to try one of those. Best selection of bottled and draft beers in Oak Ridge. A great menu featuring many homemade specialties as well as a good selection of vegetarian options. I think the wait staff is some of the friendliest around. They always know my 2 year old needs an order of sweet potato french fries STAT immediately when we walk through the door. This is a great place with a family feel and loyal following of "regulars" of which I suppose I'm one. A true independent, small business gem that deserves to be supported. read more

Took about 10 minutes to get service and the menus were sticky and falling apart. Want impressed right of the bat. Also could smell a yeasty smell, and its not alcohol. Food came fairly quick after order. However it was nothing to eerie gone about. The atmosphere is also very dark dungeon like. I wouldn't recommend it. I had the boar burger which was under seasoned. Mt wife had the plain burger which was also lacking seasoning. The cherry in the ice cream was the servers reaction when I told her I didn't like the burger. She stood there looking dumbfounded, kind of shrugged her shoulders saying "I'm sorry but I'm not sure what to do?!" We got my burger comped. On top of that the owner/manager, I have to assume thats who it was because he never identified himself after telling us the waitress would be with us in a second, was REALLY quick to take the check but not to bring refills or notice I only ate half my meal. Once I read the other reviews, I thought I would get the BBQ BACON & CHEESE BUFFALO BURGER. It was really good! The service wasn't that good, however the bartender was the waiter for the entire establishment. He was overworked and running around; but he did an amazing job with what he had to deal with! Let me start by saying the food was ok, but after eating there you can tell the owners are amateurs. First, trying to find the place is hard at night. There is no prominent sign that states the restaurant along the road, nor is there really one on the building itself. I easily drove past this looking for it. The only way I knew this was there was I looked at the photos online before hand (BTW, theres no hours of operation on their website, I had no clue if they were open). If the owners wanted to get more business they should advertise better with a nice sign thats obvious while driving 40+. As I entered the place, it looked to be set up to be greeted by a hostess but there was none, or even a waiter. I walked further in till I found the bar and sat down there. It became apparent fast the bartender was running everything at the place. Therefore, service was snippy and at times lacking. I'll give them some slack since it was a Sunday evening. The menu has basically burgers made from different meat (ostrich, buffalo, elk, beef, etc...) and is priced just below $10. There was misspellings and mistakes on the menu. I hate when places are like this because if you can't get the menu right what else can't you get right? How 'bout proof reading it next time. Thanks. My food came QUICK. And the burger was cooked right and fries mildly crispy. I think they could have added more flavor to the burger with their toppings. It wasn't bad, but it didn't blow me away either. The fries tasted good, but I've had way better sweet potato fries else where. I really wanted to like this place but I came out wanting to shake the owners and tell them how they could improve. The atmosphere, service, and presentation could all be made better and the food tastier. I would say the food is 3 stars and everything else around 1.5 stars (being critical) so I gave this a two on average. Go here if you want a decent burger, but don't expect much else. read more

Just saw your website and Yelp page so decided to give it a try. Your menu looked incredible. We walked in and no one helped us. We asked a server where to go and she said she was the only server working and was really busy. She said we could sit, but was going to take awhile. Mehhh. I came here with some OR locals and they all boasted that this place had the greatest wings in town (which I presume isn't too difficult because Oak Ridge isn't a huge place). Our waitress wasn't attentive at all - we were struggling with the hot wings and had nothing but ice in our cups during most of the meal (which sucks if you're eating a spicy meal). The wings were okay - as were the chicken tenders. The nacho cheese wasn't melted on our chips - it was just cold shredded cheese. The only thing I liked about this meal was the pepper jack cheese cubes. I'm in Oak Ridge pretty regularly but I doubt I'll come here again because of the crappy service and lackluster food. read more

Love this place! The wings are great as well as the interesting food choices. If you eat low carb, you're in luck! They do sausages, grilled chicken, wings, salads, etc. Lots of choices! Took my husband there for his birthday with a group of friends. We walked in and there's a sign "Take a menu and seat yourself" or something to that effect. So we grabbed some menus and went in to find a seat. There were no tables empty that were large enough for our party and we asked the waiter if we could put two together. His response was "sure, but it'll be a while for service, we're really busy tonight", the place isn't any bigger than most, in fact smaller than most, and there usually isn't any trouble being helped withing a few minutes at most places, so we sat down to wait. Looking at the menu, it listed some pretty exotic fare and I thought "this could be interesting.." Waiter rushed by our table and said nothing, so we waited.... and waited ... and waited. I went to the bar to get the birthday boy a beer while we waited. The bartender asked if we had given our drink orders at our table and I explained that we hadn't, so she brought me the beer and wasn't sure of the price to charge me. As the waiter passed her she asked him about getting our drink orders and he told her that it would be about an hour before he could get to us. Hubby drank his beer and still no waiter, not even to take drink orders... we left. Too bad, the menu looked promising... the service spoiled it.
