It was my first time at the Buffalo exchange and maybe because it's a Saturday or maybe it's because it's pride weekend but it was pretty packed! Loads of selection though and I liked the variety of clothes. Most of the items I saw still had tags on them! Items were moderately priced but everything was in pretty good condition. read more

Every time I come here to sell clothes (ok, I'll be less dramatic, it's only been twice) I feel like I am getting screwed over. If you don't watch them carefully, I swear they just throw your clothes in their basket and then don't pay you for it. Also the amount you get back totally depends on the person going through your stuff, the one lady with blonde hair that may own the place seems pretty fair, but everyone else just seems like they are on a power trip or something. read more

Buffalo Exchange in Uptown is a favorite shopping spot for my gaggle of college girlfriends for a few reasons: 1. Location, location, location. B.E. is conveniently located in an easy to get to location in Uptown. It just so happens that many of my friends live around the area, so it's an easy shot up (or down) Lyndale for us to meet there. 2. They're CONSTANTLY taking new inventory which makes me only want to stop in more frequently to hunt for treasures. 3. My interactions with the B.E. staff have been really quite enjoyable. There are even a couple employees who remember me from visits past and show me clothes they think I'll like (and they're right most of the time)! 4. I agree that many items are priced a little too high. However, I think their collection and buying skills have improved over the past couple years. It's also not uncommon to find designer labels and quality clothing for bargain prices. It's a matter of digging and shopping their frequently (e.g. silk Escada blouses for $25...what?!). I'll continue to frequent Buffalo Exchange because it is easy to shop (for they take care of much of the weeding out process), the store is neat, the staff is friendly, and I love the hunt for hidden gems. read more

I was raised on thrift stores. In my family, scoring something at Goodwill is a source of pride and accomplishment. I probably shouldn't enter them unless I'm actually willing to spend some money. Which is why it was a mistake to "just check out" Buffalo Exchange yesterday. Whoops. I scored a stunning bib necklace, coral belt, beautiful Banana Republic skirt, and a high-quality, FULLY SEQUINED dress (no idea when I'll wear this, but it was only $16 - perfect logic) for $56. I'd say it was a successful trip. Although the quality of some of the items didn't jive with the prices (Old Navy bib necklace for $10? Pretty sure I could buy it cheaper there), I was still impressed with the selection and overall cleanliness of the store. Everything I found was in great condition, and was actually cute, not ironically cute. The staff was fantastic. The person working the dressing room was so friendly, and happily kept reliving my arms of the ever-growing pile of clothes. Also, they have about 10 dressing rooms, so you can actually try on the potential new duds without feeling pressured to move at lightning speed. Plus, plus, plus. read more

Today was a disappointing experience at Buffalo Exchange. We had an appt scheduled to drop off clothes. We were in the neighborhood early and the store had a long line outside (understandable with limited numbers of people allowed in store due to Covid) so we enjoyed time shopping at other places. We went back and were told we needed to be on time and we were 8 min late and should have called and no drinks in the store. I stayed at the door with the beverage. A few minutes later my friend was told that they weren't taking any of our stuff. I hope this was just a bad day and not normally how people are treated. read more

I went to Buffalo Exchange with pretty low expectations. When I lived in LA I was within walking distance of a Buffalo Exchange and it was always disappointing. The clothes always seemed a little too early 90s (this was before clothes from the early 90s was considered cool again) and in that bad way, not in that ironic acid wash high water jeans kind of way. Anyhoo, since I was kind of strapped for cash and always have stuff to donate (somehow routinely cleaning my closet justifies purchasing more to fill the void) I decided to try to make money from my clothes. I called beforehand and the guy working was able to tell me what specifically they were looking for so I wouldn't waste my time. I showed up with a bag of clothes and shoe in tow. There was plenty of parking (always always a plus) and the store looked like it had a ton of awesome stuff. I didn't have time to look through, I was too busy wringing my hands hoping that I didn't come in vain. I left with some dolla dolla bills and a new appreciation for Buffalo Exchange. Ladies and gentlemen, I have found my mecca. Backstory. I used to live across the street from a Buffalo Exhange in Boulder, CO. I would be in there all the time looking for good deals on cool clothes. I also tried to sell my stuff there many times. That particular Buffalo was not soft and cuddly like you would expect a buffalo to be. It was more like a protective mom buffalo when you get too close to her baby. They never took any of the clothes I brought in even though I saw stuff exactly like it when I was wandering the rack. I was on Lyndale on my way to Tatters and I thought I would give the old Buffalo Exchange another chance. Not all buffaloes are snotty right? It was a great decision on my part. They had a ton of cool used clothing and all of it was reasonable. You get what you pay for here. More staple pieces are less money. Cool and unique items are more expensive but I'm talking 20 as opposed to 8. So who am I kidding using the word expensive. Plus, they have these new pieces scattered throughout that are really cool. I bought 2 new dresses, a pair of vintage cowboy boots and cool western style shirt the last time I was in. Don't worry gents, there is a lot of stuff for you too. I would say the selection is pretty even. My little brother has a rad (oh yes, I am bring ing back rad personally) sense of style. He found a bunch of cool stuff from a nice vneck tshirt to cool plaid shorts. Like on of the other reviwers said, they accept cool clothes. Who cares if that cool shirt didn't come from Abercrombie? I don't. That's for sure. You can find name brands there like Urban Outfitters (I got a cool short sleeve sweatshirt) but also brands you have never heard of. I dare you to not find at least one thing you like there. read more

The selection is all right, but is definitely geared towards the hipster crowd. Some of the items are outrageously priced for what it is - a lot of Urban Outfitter brands, which are trendy but poorly made - and the men's selection is limited. I've taken a lot of items to this Buffalo Exchange, including items that are not the uber-trendy stuff but still well-made staples. Unfortunately, there seems to be a pattern where my cheap, trendy stuff is accepted and the other stuff is not. On a trip to Seattle, we went to another Buffalo Exchange because I was wearing shoes that precluded me from walking a lot. Their BE on University was a lot bigger, and a lot funkier, a lot more diverse. I almost bought a faux leopard jacket there, but settled on a pair of almost-new Puma sneakers. I'd never given much thought to checking this place out, thinking that this thrifting enthusiast would be too old and out-of-place. Then, though, they had a special Earth Day sale where they put out a few racks of clothing on which everything was $1, and all the dollars went toward saving ocean animals. I'd heard that BE's in New York had designer duds tucked into these dollar racks, so I had to see what I'd find here. I scored goodies from Robert Rodriguez, Rebecca Taylor, Nanette Lepore, and J. Crew--for a dollar each! On my second visit, I scored an MZ Wallace handbag for $50! That same bag was current at Nordstrom for $400, so I was really excited for that find. I browsed the racks and was surprised to find higher-end labels with a pretty regular frequency, especially among the dresses. For every higher-end label you come across, you'll have to sift through 50 cheap, forgettable mall-brand items; but when you find a gem, it's totally worth it. Do keep an eye out, though, because I did notice some items had stains or tears in them. But despite this, I had a pleasant shopping experience there, and intend to go back. Did I mention that they have a parking lot? That's awesome. read more

I absolutely LOVE Buffalo Exchange for selling clothes. They will purchase more items at a higher cost than I've seen at any other consignment store. It's also cleaner, with the kindest employees . I am so grateful to have them nearby. I bring bins of clothes here and they're able to quickly and efficiently go through the items to see what they want to take and don't. Unlike other stores though, they really focus on the season that we're in because they keep a limited inventory in comparison to other stores. One tip though, is to bring in unique pieces! Anything with a funky sleeve, or pattern, usually they've taken and purchased from me. With covid precautions they're also requiring appointments which I love! They've done this safely which is already 5/5 for me. I've mostly done selling here, not so much purchasing because I want to clear out my closet and not add to it when selling, but they have such a good variety of quality pieces and accessories. This place is great. I've only been here twice. I am a vintage dress collector specifying in 1 brand in particular. I have called Buffalo before I went both times. They know what they have in stock of the brand and even will look to make sure they didn't miss anything new. I go there and they have my dresses waiting for me at very reasonable prices. Not much to critique. I looked around and they did not miss anything. Can't beat the service and the prices are the best i've seen in the cities for what I buy. I wish there was a parking lot. That's the only bad thing about Buffalo Exchange. read more

I will say to the reviewers who are not satisfied with Buffalo's selection need to understand that this place has a high turn over for their goods. I frequent this place regularly, in fact I probably sell to them every other month or so, and I've found being consistent helps you find the best treasures! I've never seen the same item twice because Buffalo buys every single day and are very selective in what they purchase, nothing really has a long shelf life here. Except this one great pair of (like new) leather chaps for $75, I was always hesitant to get them, but about a month later they went on sale, 50% OFF!! Unfortunately they were snatched up before I could get to them, so I promised myself I would never let that happen again. I'm still haunted to this day by what could have been. The staff are tragically hip but super chill, and they treat you like you're a real person. I've worked in retail for many years and I can assure you that your experience at Buffalo will be unlike any you've had at say a PacSun or where ever the kids are shopping these days. Zoe, the cheeky, frizzy haired retail angel with double nostril piercings is an absolute delight, busting with character and knowledgeable but often times questionable fashion advice. read more

And a lot of stuff at this one was brand new...maybe overstock or things that didn't sell at local boutiques. I'll be back as the inventory is ever changing. I used to go into the Buffalo Exchange in Albuquerque which was huge in comparison to this one. This one is kind of small but still has a pretty nice collection of clothes. The thing I love about the BE is that I always walk out with something I totally LOVE. I found a Nanette Lepore jacket in here for $30 (would go for $300 new). I also found this totally cute tank top with no label on it for $10. How they select clothes to buy back has always been a mystery to me. You'll find Alice Temperley for Target and then you'll find Forever 21 and then something like D & G. (Huh?) Don't be offended if they don't buy your stuff. They're picky like that. read more

First off, I've been meaning to go here for pretty much ever and then I realized I lived all of about five blocks away. No more excuses. I can't say the selection was exactly what I imagined it would be. Think a mix between really basic shells and stock items along side some really interesting and unique pieces. Nothing all that formal, but if you're looking for some nice casual wear give it a shot. The staff is fantastic. Friendly, helpful, and not overly eager. They know when you want to chat, they know when you want to browse through the $11 blouses. It's a rare gift, really. While they may not have the breadth of selection you would find at other, larger consignment shops, it's still worth a look. Will return. read more

I really like this place for quick browses through accessories & shoes the most. Their clothing can be really hit or miss, with some things too trendy and others too hip, but occasionally there's something perfect (but that takes many trips and lots of digging for me). The real clothes-boner to be had though is in the coat section. There is some vintage stuff up in there; I found a gorgeous faux-fur swing coat that was just divine! It was a bit out of my range at the time though and when I went back in a week or so, it had been snatched up. Act quick here, before the other hipsters steal your thunder! read more

Second trip was better than the first but I still left empty handed. The staff was super friendly, things were neatly organized and the inventory was completely refreshed. Good to know that I can check back often and not see the same selection. Some things I saw here that were notable Ferragamo shoes, Marc by Marc plaid shirt, Club Monaco shirts, All Saints sweater, J Crew cardigan and a black Le Tigre jacket. My friend bought a brand new chambray shirt with tags that was made in the US and another picked up a $4 Banana Republic hat. My only complaint, one of the items I tried on smelled like it was drenched in cologne, maybe should have been washed before being put on the shelf? Aside from that, the overall experience was very good. Decline a bag with your purchase and donate that token! read more

I do enjoy stopping in here with my daughter to see if we can pick up any good pieces to add to her closet. Sometimes we get very lucky and find an awesome value. Sometimes we just get a little something funky. If I'm driving by I say oh-let's check it out because you just never know what will be there. Scored a sky dress for only $15, you know those ones they always wear on real housewives of Orange County. They normally cost over $150 bucks and I just traded some of my old clothes I never wear for it. The selection was small though and I really had to hunt for that find but it was worth it. Dig around and you may find a gem but don't expect to find a ton of stuff you love on just one trip. read more

I LOVE this store. I always find amazing things here and the staff is oh-so-friendly. So why the 3 star review? EVERY time, without fail, that I get home from the store, I find an item with the security tag still ON! So annoying, considering I live 15 minutes away and have to make a special trip just to have something done that should've been done the first time. Most recently, I found one tag and brought the item back for it to be removed. When I got home, I found another security tag on another item in from the SAME batch. I understand needing to use security tags on your items, but PLEASE take them off. so far I've driven a total of 60 minutes just removing tags. :| ***Changed my review - they are now awesome at removing the security tags :) NO issues anymore! read more

I found some cute stuff at either full retail price or super cheap. No in between. Have tried to sell clothes twice and agree with other similar reviews they are super picky and will give you dimes for what it's worth. Not worth the hassle of taking your stuff there to try to sell. It's a small location and smells with all the random old stuff they do actually buy back. Definitely never going back there to buy or sell. read more

Parking is a pain. Employees are kind. Selling isn't worth the hassle to load up your stuff, get there and attempt to park, wait for them to dig through it, and return home with all of your stuff: They are incredibly (!!) picky. And the return isn't worth it. They say they like "basics" which is all I own but they took two things (for a whopping $6.40). It's really subjective and strange how they make determinations. Been to Buffalo Exchanges all over the US and home town of CA. When I first went to the MP store, it was average Buffalo stock and a bit better than now. Every time I go in now ( to buy and sell) a new person is being trained and asked if they know what store Mossimo clothing is from. Most do not. Last week was possibly the final visit, cheap quality clothing in bulk, no name brands from the last 5 years and they need to take " vintage" out of the name altogether. Nothing original or worth the price when buying. Forget about selling, the 20 year olds are only looking to buy from friends (which there were 5 of hanging out) or the fake neon Ray Ban crowd. They should bring back quality buyers and quality stock. read more

One of my favorite thrifting locales in MSP. I generally don't do well with thrift or antique stores - I find the cluttered atmosphere and weird smell to be overwhelmingly offputting and I end up walking out the door just as soon as I've walked in. Buffalo Exchange is different. It's well-organized with a clean layout, full of clothing items but not stuffed in too tight to hinder your browsing. The staff is super friendly and always walking around to make sure that clothes are in their right location, and they're more than willing to take your armloads of potential try-ons to a dressing room while you're still looking around. By being patient and looking closely, I've found steals from Banana Republic, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rock & Republic, and many other higher-end clothing lines, for the tiniest fraction of what they'd cost at a department store. They generally have frequent turnarounds in inventory, so you're not likely to see the same things on repeat visits. I usually have the best luck in their denim and accessories sections, and these happen to be the items that I feel like I'm saving the most $$ on as well. Win, win! Seriously - their jewelry is sick. I want all of the necklaces. Bring your own bag and you'll be given the option to donate a token (worth $0.05...but still) to one of three different charities. read more

Most arbitrary buyers ever -- I've taken junk and it's been accepted, and pieces I thought were classic that haven't. As far as buying goes, one can find some nice things (I usually come out with a couple of items), but the store's target audience is definitely the hipster crowd -- very few young professional/teacher clothes available at this location. Many of the clothes seem a little overpriced -- especially the Forever 21 clothes that sell for about the same as people initially bought them for. Buying and selling here requires patience and a willingness to look through some nonsense, but it can be rewarding. read more

I will weigh in as the man's point of view. While the selection of denim and button down shirts seems pretty good, this store is severely lacking in the t-shirt category. I don't know what they have to do to get more worn, hip, ironic, and/or well-fitting t-shirts, but I am not pleased by the fact that "new, artsy" $20 t-shirts are dominating the racks, instead of the $8 used stuff I want and expect. In 3 or 4 trips, I haven't found anything, although my ladyfriend usually comes out with some cute article of clothing every time. read more

After FINALLY going to the store for the first time, I have to say I am impressed, #1 with the prices. VERY resonable, even on big name brands. There were great shoes here! Great accessories as well. As far as the clothing went, while there was some unique things, not as much as I had hoped. I cannot complain though, I got the most amazingly retro fabulous 60's shirt that I am totally in love with. It was worth the digging through the racks just for this. Best of all, it was only $13!! I brought in brand new clothing and they told me it was because of condition they could not buy it. Most of the clothing didn't have damage or anything wrong with them. I would not recommend selling your old clothing here. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! There so picky about what they buy. There was some girls in front of me and they both had two bags FULL of items and out of that they picked one skirt and one top. My friend had clothing with tags still on them and they still would not buy them. read more

Cool clothes at reasonable prices. A great place for Halloween shopping (I found my perfect Sarah Palin jacket for 15 bucks!). Great variety of shoes, but none in my size, so I'll be back hoping they have some 7.5s! One cool thing they do is donate money to charity if you don't take a plastic bag, or if you bring your own. You get a token worth 5 cents to place in one of three boxes, each for a specific charity. Choose which charity to support, put your token in the box, and they donate the money. Maybe I'm slow and lots of people do this, but I've never seen it and it definitely makes me want to support this place! read more

I've both bought and sold items here multiple times. Everybody in the store has always been super friendly whether you're buying, selling or both. Selling: If you bring in trendy clothing that is in good or new condition, you will get a good deal for it! I love watching the buyers go through my clothes because they get excited and you can tell they actually are passionate about fashion. If you decide to use store credit you get a better price for your things then if you just take cash. They have a great selection here so this is what I usually opt to do! Buying: I love the trendy selection. Some items are overpriced (some of the H&M clothes would cost the same brand new at the store) but you can get some amazing deals on the more high end stuff! Don't forget to look at the shoes! If you like thrifting, you will LOVE Buffalo Exchange. Don't be an asshole about them not having bags. Do the environment a favor and bring your own! read more

Really liked my experience here. The cashier is super nice and very helpful. The store was also really clean and I enjoyed their shoe and dress selection. Their dressing rooms are also quite large and have big mirrors. I subtracted a star because the clothing was a bit pricey. A lot of dresses were over $20 and I feel like I could have gotten the same ones on sale but new at the actual store it was originally from. read more
