So glad that on the spur of my girlfriend invited me to go to hear some jazz piano on a Sunday night. Great way to end the weekend! Small group of silver-haired patrons. They look like relics themselves! The music was great. That atmosphere couldn't be beat. I'm coming back for more fun. Comedy, Celtic music, cartoons and bloody Mary's! I ordered the hummus and veggie plate. I needed a little something to go with my cocktail. I wouldn't come here for dinner, just for the vibe and the music. The bartenders are super friendly. 5 stars!

These are dark, dark times indeed...but somehow, Nietzsche's is a little beacon of light down at the end of Allen Street. From the exterior, it isn't hard to surmise that Nietzche's is a dive bar. Very much coated outside and in with writing on the walls, old photographs, weird relics that have been around for longer than I've been alive, you immediately forget what the sun looks like if you're going in in the daytime. But, that's okay. The people of Allentown will tell you that the dark is comforting...and you wouldn't want to see a place like this properly lit up ANYWAY... But don't get it twisted, what might come off as "rough around the edges" to some, this bar is absolutely one of the coziest, comforting dives and I'm always ecstatic whenever I get the chance to come here. They have a pretty decent variety as far as beverages go. Mostly tap beers, but they have a fridge with plenty of other canned stuff; my go-to is a cider, of course. A cheap PBR is my husband's drink of choice and has been for most of his adult life - and that's what we love about this place! The consistency!! Live music daily. Yes, daily. They literally have a calendar inside that will tell you every musician that has booked a spot that day. Sometimes it's just a solo guy playing in the front of the house, other times there's a full band in the back. Either way, you're going to get a totally unique music experience here, no matter what day you pick or what time you get there! I think they have snacks here?? I can't remember. After The Pink burned down we went to Nietzsche's the next day and they were serving up bagels and cream cheese. Totally unique experience. But I have eaten in this establishment before. However, this place isn't known for it's food, so I wouldn't rely on it. Instead, might I recommend the Jim's SteakOut down the street? Nietzsche's is owned by some pretty good people now, who are putting their heart and soul into keeping the business good and the music flowing for years to come. And I can't wait to go back. Rock on y'all.

The food was OK at best and the portion sizes were very inconsistent. Our server was not as attentive as one would like, he finally brought our salads and we had to stop him to have him get us silverware to eat with. The inside is stunning, looking forward to go to another concert there, just probably not going to order food.

Also, while standing at the bar, I heard the lady checking tickets say something to the bartender about being aware of underage people here. What I didn't like were the drink prices and cleverly hidden fees. I ordered 2 drinks at the bar so I could sit and enjoy the show. It was $29 and they were 8 oz glasses. I barely drink and did not feel a drop of alcohol. I couldn't believe I paid that PLUS tip for basically some juice. I realized what they did when I got home: they gave me 2 receipts ... the top being merchant copy. Merchant copy had my price for the drinks and area to sign and tip. I shoved the other copy in my pocket and when I got home, I realized they charged a 2% management fee AND another 18% fee. So with my tip, I paid an additional 40% total. Yikes. Not worth it. It's frustrating to think that an hour of music from a local band and 2 drinks has become difficult to afford, when it used to be a regular thing for me when I was young and didn't have much. Anyway, more of what I liked: Venue was clean and seats clearly labeled. They had a QR code right at your seat to order food and drink so you didn't have to get up once in your seat. I didn't order any food, but others did around me, and it looked good. Back to what I didn't like: I paid for a premium seat and it was the worst seat in the house. It was at the corner of the stage (the only stage side seat left) and I could not see almost the entire band! There were 4 men up front I did not see at all until the next day when they posted pictures. I thought "ok so that's what they look like". And ironically in those photos. You couldn't see the only 2 people I could see from my seat: I could only see 2/3 of the drummer with the curtain next to me. The only real view of anyone I had was the bass player. If I just stared at him, that would feel creepy lol so I looked at the stage floor often. Do not sit where I sat in the corner of the stage. I could somewhat see the video screen, but there was a slight lag and threw off what was playing versus what you were seeing. I guess if I came here again, I would have to have a seat available center stage, and would skip the drinks and opt for food due to the high cost. Maybe the food would feel like more bang for the buck. Watch the 20% total fees they'll getchya! I feel the venue is well-managed otherwise.

There are tons of record covers, vintage toys and rock and roll memorabilia - great vibe. In the back is the theatre space with tables for guests so they can drink and dine throughout the show. They've got it down to a science. Wait staff take orders before and during the show and restock drinks and even check you out / close your tab before the show ends. A few of us shared chicken quesadillas and double chicken wings with 2 kinds of sauce which were all very good. They've got made to order cocktails, beer and cider as well as canned cocktails. I heard on amateur night the wings are half off. A few of my friends have taken the classes and really enjoyed them. I've enjoyed seeing them and their classmates nail their class shows. All of the comedians I've seen at Levity have been very funny in they own unique way. The Día de los Muertos show tonight was a beautiful night of music, storytelling, comedy and remembering and honoring our lost loved ones. Edith Chavez hosted and curated the evening. All of the performers and the music was heartfelt and genuine. Looking forward to the next show / event!

I have had the pleasure of appreciating this group 3 times. I say appreciating, not seeing or watching because they run different types of events. First, they do an improv show. If you don't know what improv is Google "Whose Line Is It Anyway"... understand now? Good! The shows I have been to have both been at the Taylor Theater, which is a small theater located on the Kenan Center grounds. What great about a venue like that, with people like this, is you get to see every facial expression and hear every changing in voice. The shows are always great fun. Whether they are doing their own thing of taking suggestions from the crowd, they always nail it. Crowd participation is welcomed a d encouraged, but not mandatory. The pace of the show never leaves you bored or waiting for something to happen. For $10 how could I go wrong? The second style of event we participated in was an improv night/class. For $5 you get to come and learn some of the "games" and then play with the rest of the group. I brought a group of my friends and we all had a blast. All of them said they were excited to go again in the future. The best part of this style of event, outside of how funny the group was, is the comfort level they created. We had people that are typically outspoken and people that are typically introverted, we all had fun. It it the sign of a pro when you can meld groups like that and make everyone feel like they are an equal part of the experience. It's cheaper than a movie and a heck of a lot more fun. Do yourself a favor and go catch on of their shows, you won't be sorry. Better yet, do yourself and friend a favor and bring them too, you will be the hero of the day.
