Bud's was a staple of my childhood, and since we happened to be in the area, which rarely happens, I wanted to share the magic that is a Tootsie Roll snow cone with my kids. I was interested to see that Bud's had been remodeled when we pulled up, what was l not interested to see was the new menu, sans Tootsie Roll snow cones. We ended up with cherry and wedding cake cones, since the flavors are very limited, and they were...fine. And I'm sure all the hipster teas and smoothies they now serve are...fine. The 3 rating is based on the snow cones we had, nothing bad, nothing special. Definitely sad to see another childhood favorite gone. 5/5 would not drive out of my way to come back since the snow cones are the same as you can get at every other snow cone stand and most other places have more choices. We went to get my dad a snowcone yesterday, and specifically asked for a "Sugar Free" watermelon because my dad is diabetic. We get home with it, my dad kept asking "Are you sure this is sugar free?" I kept telling him yes, because that's what I ordered, "Sugar Free" Little bit later, after he finishes the snowcone, he didn't feel good. This is my favorite Snow Cone stand ever - from the cute little building with year round twinkling Christmas lights and funny signs to the extensive yummy flavors and add-on options. They offer almost 100 flavors with several sugar free flavors, Jubilees which is fresh fruit blended in and the option of a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream. They have some pretty crazy flavors that I would never try like Pickle Juice, Toxic Waste and Bug's Life. But, what I have tried is the perfect frozen treat - Tiger's Blood, Strawberry Daiquiri and Banana are super yummy! but my favorite is the sugar free Blackberry Jubilee with real fruit blended in. The prices are also awesome SM (2.75) M (3.00) L (3.25) with add-ons an extra .25 -1.00. Oh, I love snow cones. I am not really picky when it comes to sugary ice. That is why I am so sad to say that all the flavors I've tried at Bud's are a huge disappointment. I have tried a wide variety of flavors throughout the last couple of years, with and without sugar, and I have never liked any of them. I decided to give them one more try this past week, and I ordered the sugar free pina colada flavor. First, the snow cone doesn't have a rounded top like in other places, the ice didn't even reach the top of the cup, which after trying the flavor didn't make much of a difference anyway because it went straight in the trash. It tasted like the juice that accumulates in the bottom of a trash can. Go to SnoCo on Pipeline! Better service and better tasting flavors. read more

We often stop here in the summer for a quick cool down. Lots of flavors and they don't skimp on the ice or flavoring. Well priced also. Actually headed there in about an hour with my daughter since it's the last day of school! Had my first visit to Bud's yesterday - have passed it for years but always go to the little sno-cone shack on Central in the Big Lot's parking lot. The flavor list here is definitely expansive but when I got my cone I was disappointed in the texture of the ice - it wasn't shaved, I was chipped or something more like a sno-cone you would get at a ball game or something. I got half watermelon and half blue coconut - flavors were as expected but now after reading others reviews it sounds like I should've gotten the strawberry shortcake. Maaaaybe I'll go back and try that...but I really prefer a place with shaved ice that just melts in your mouth - this has a lot of texture if that helps anyone else out there - if that's your thing, you will love it! read more

This is definitely our favorite spot for sno-cones in the h/e/b area! Growing up in Hurst, I was here ALL the time. From when I was super young until late high school when we would play concerts here. You see... a sno-cone stand is SO much more than just a place! Its one of my fond memories of growing up in the hurst area, plus nothing was more satisfying after a round of golf at the par 3 sotogrande golf course than hitting up bud's afterwards. Their snow cones are very tasty and they have so many awesome flavors to choose from and good prices. I wait can hardly wait for spring and summer and the main reason is snow-cone season. I've seen bud's for years but never stopped. So one Saturday out with some friends we stopped. I got my standard Pineapple/Blue coconut. I was never so disappointed. To start with they are one of the pricier stands that I have been to and that day I got the driest snow cone I have had in years. I don't know if the syrups were watered down or they are just skimpy on the flavoring but based on that snow cone I won't be back, there are better cones down the street. I did like the idea of a punch card but mine went in the trashcan along with that snow cone when I got home. Funny I let it sit on the counter for about 20 minutes before throwing it away and it still was dry and flavorless. read more

I call this my "second favorite" snow cone. It might be my favorite except for two things. 1- their ice isn't as smooth as other places and 2. their coconut & cream tastes strange (my ultimate favorite is coconut w/ extra cream). My husband's family lives near by, so I come here to get my "fix". We don't have snow cones where I live, so I eat one almost every day when we come to visit. I usually get a medium in a large cup so it doesn't drip everywhere (secret tip!). My favorites are black cherry or grape. Like the other reviewer said, their prices are pretty reasonable when compared to other places. Also, be sure to get their customer card- you will get one free after 9 cones (I think). My husband loves to frequent sno-cone / sno-ball locations during the hottest months of the year. I was never a big fan, because my experience as a child told me that I was going to have a big cup of shaved ice and hardly any flavoring. But he dragged me to Bud's Sno-Balls the first day it got to 108 degrees this year and I was first of all amazed by the expansive list of flavors! It took me a while to decide, but I ordered Monkey's Blood on a whim. He got Tiger's Blood. The prices were fair, and the wait isn't very long. I tried his, and it was great! Monkey's Blood was good too, but I really enjoyed Tiger's Blood. They're both fruity and red. They put plenty of flavoring in the Styrofoam cups and give you a spoon and a straw, because when it's that hot and you're a slow drinker (me) it turns into a drink pretty quickly. I've read that other people weren't a fan of the ice used here, but I thought it was just fine. My husband contends that Bud's is much better than Al's (Central). read more

Bud's is like a diamond in the rough. My grandparents used to live near the stand, so I've literally been going there for like 25 years. The syrup they use is incredibly tasty, and they have many flavor options. Barbie, Polar Punch, Tigers Blood, Lemon Lime, and Dreamsicle are some of my favorite flavors. It would be nice if the ice was a little more finely shaved, but it doesn't bother me that it's not. I don't go anywhere else for my sno-cones! read more
