The people at this location are complete CROOKS! I tried to rent a vehicle on August 25th and was denied service because I had a debit card and they required a credit check. Fine. The issue is that Budget charged me $50 on top of a $60 fee from Expedia. When I contacted Expedia, they refunded their $60 charge, but I am STILL trying to get my refund of $50 from Budget. Their customer service line SUCKS and they will not provide a phone number so I can talk to someone. They will only communicate through email. I have NEVER experienced such horrible customer service from a vendor. Plus they won't give me back my money for a rental that I didn't even get to use!!! Absolute crooks! read more

I rented a Chevy Tahoe from Budget and the vehicle was filthy dirty with dog hair everywhere, dried bugs caked on the front of the vehicle and the windows disgusting dirty. When I asked what could be done their response was there really is nothing we can do? I had to just take the car as because I had an appointment. When I returned the car to budget, the gentleman behind the counter stated the car should never have been released in that condition. I really think Budget needs better quality control before they rent the vehicle. Very dissatisfied and disgusted customer. And this is why I will go back to Hertz! read more

The reason I am giving Budget one star is because they are misleading customers through their partner rewards program. I signed up originally thinking it was free. When I looked at the details of my rental agreement I noticed a $14 charge for getting 500 points with American Airlines. Since I figure points are worth about 1% of the number of points, in this case $5, I tried to opt out of the rewards program. Turns out it is virtually impossible to do so. I was able to convince the agent at the desk when I picked up my car to remove the charge. He wisely advised me to just create a new Budget account if I can't get the rewards program removed. Nonetheless, it is very annoying that Budget's website does not allow one to change the rewards preference--despite there being a yes/no button. It turns grey if you try to change from yes to no! I have sent repeated emails to customer service and nobody is taking care of it. I was even told by one guy to contact American Airlines--even though Budget is the company trying to impose the charge. What's up Budget??? Why so consumer unfriendly? Update (7/30/21): the day following my posting of this review, my rewards preference was fixed--no longer linked to any rewards partner. Coincidence? Anyways, thanks Budget for finally getting this fixed. I also changed my rating from one to three stars. Dinged by two stars for all the inconvenience. read more

This location is scamming customers. Be warned that they will cheat you out of your money and lie outright. I arrived at this location with proof of insurance in hand, ready to pick up my car for a one-way rental. I was met by a very tiny hispanic girl and a man in his 30s who from his accent seemed to be from Africa. I made explicitly clear that I had my own insurance and did not need their insurance. They said ok, but a few minutes later the girl told me, "We actually have a deal today where you get our insurance for free." I felt a bit awkward saying no since it was free, even though I clearly had no need for it. So, I said alright. I had never rented a car before and was not familiar with all the charges on the receipt they gave me, but the price was what I'd been quoted by Costco, so I signed the receipt and left. It turns out they did indeed charge me for the insurance. I stopped at another Budget in Virginia to inquire about the charge, and they quickly removed the $150 extra charge. That manager there shook his head and laughed with disbelief that these people had told me the insurance was "free today." He apologized for their outright scam. I was absolutely shocked that these people that I had thanked at the time for being so friendly and helpful had lied to my face and tried to scam me to get the extra commission. I have contacted Budget's corporate offices to report this appalling behavior. If you must rent from this location, be 100% sure to read over the right-hand portion of the receipt under "YOUR OPTIONAL PRODUCTS/SERVICES" to ensure that you have not been charged for "free" insurance. read more

Quite possibly the worst rental experience ever. Do NOT go here unless you want to stand in line for at least 30 min every time (both pick up and drop off) they are under staffed always, and don't care to hustle while you stand in line. They were "out of cars" when I came to pick up my rental at the reserved time. I had a reservation, but this didn't seem to matter. There is no after hours drop off, and the 800 customer service line will just route you back to the office location if you try to express your issues to them. I will NEVER rent a car from this location again, and I am strongly considering never using budget for my car rental services again. Just terrible. read more

I rented an SUV for almost a month and this location was several hundred dollars cheaper than anywhere else. For that reason it gets 2 stars. But, I got more hassle than any rental I've had in years - and I traveled non-stop for work 7 years straight. The SUV was filthy and scratched up outside, the tires were worn thin, and we subsequently found rotten apples under the seat and trash and child toys in the glovebox. OK - not a huge deal but odd for a Budget rental in my experience. The real problem came weeks after we returned the vehicle. A charge of $450 came on our credit card for excessive cleaning charges after return. We actually washed and vacuumed the vehicle before return and the vehicle was in way better shape than when we received it. When we returned it the guy had no problems that were communicated. Fortunately, we successfully disputed this with Budget but it was quite the hassle. If price is equal go somewhere else. If you choose this place based on price then watch your step and don't expect anything to go quickly or smoothly. read more

It is difficult to describe the incompetence and unprofessionalism displayed by the Budget Rental office at 4400 Connecticut Ave-Days Inn Hotel. I reserved a car for pickup on 5/21 at 4 PM. I planned to use the car for business travel on the morning of 5/22. I arrived at 4 PM and the door was locked. A staff member inside waved me away. I knocked until she opened the door, and I told her that I had a car reserved for pickup at 4 PM. She repeatedly said "WE'RE CLOSED" without listening to me or bothering to look at the reservation number that I repeatedly tried to show her. Meanwhile, a male customer arrived with the same issue as mine (a reservation for 4pm). We pleaded with her to call someone, like her manager, to help resolve the fact that we had cars reserved for the time when the office supposedly closed. (NOTE: This new closure time of 4 pm was posted nowhere publicly.) The staff member refused to call anyone and told us to call Customer Service. She shut the door in our faces. Another male customer arrived with another 4 pm reservation. She repeatedly said, "WE'RE CLOSED" and shrugged when we asked her for help. A woman arrived to return her rental car and the staff member (who said her name was "Wendy") told her that she would not wait for the woman to retrieve her bags from the car. The staffer "Wendy" locked up the office, got in her car, and left. I frantically made a reservation for the next day, and was told I would have to pay more. I called Customer Service, explained what happened, and the representative promised I would be charged "the same rate." Meanwhile, I was charged more money. All because Budget Rental is massively incompetent and hires rude and incompetent staff? I have to pay more money for your mistakes? I almost missed my business meetings because of this sham of a company. Budget Rental is the personification of carelessness, arrogance, and laziness. I will advise anyone and everyone NOT to go here. read more

Seeing a lot of negative reviews on here (some of them quite old) so just wanted to share a counterbalancing perspective. Have rented from here 3 times over the last 2 years or so and have never had anything but a positive experience. The is location is convenient, is open on weekends, offers good deals, and keeps its cars in generally good condition. Staff are also friendly and accommodating. read more

Very good experience - I was staying at the Days Inn that is adjacent and needed a car at the last minute. A good selection of cars was available and I was in and out in no time. The person who checked us in was great as was the person who checked us out. The only points off are that there is no out-of-hours drop off, but luckily if you rent from Budget/Avis and are staying at the hotel you can park for free. Convenient location too. read more

Avoid at all costs. I have used many Budget franchises that have been just fine...not this place. Not only did I have a terrible experience, all the clientele I encountered were equally having serious issues. The place closes before their listed hours, which means you could be charged an EXTRA DAY if you arrive near their closing time. The ladies behind the counter are sweet and seem to understand the challenges their customers face, yet just have to call their manager for every tiny issue-- who ultimately is no help at all. Worst car rental experience I have ever had. Originally rented via Priceline. When I got to the counter to pick up, the associate told me that I could actually get a promotion they were running where I got the car rental insurance as well (though I didn't need it) for 4$ less. Confused, I read through the paperwork, asked what the catch was, etc. and said 'why not' and took the promotion. Upon returning the car, I had to drop off the car and keys in the attached hotel because the associate was not there to open up the store at the time they were supposed to open. Today, I saw a charge on the credit card for 3 times what the price was supposed to be. I called corporate and they could only refund a portion. I put it on my credit card so I will be disputing as soon as it clears. Do NOT rent from here! read more

This location is VERY disorganized. Avoid at all costs. Made reservation online earlier in the week and prepaid for the rental for pick-up at 11am. When I called to confirm on day of they mentioned they did not have any cars available, that there were customers waiting for over an hour, and I would be #6 on the list. When I arrived to the location there were customers still waiting for cars. It was 1pm by this time and the lady working at the front desk said she was unable to transfer my reservation to another location and no upgrades were available because there weren't any cars on the lot. She mentioned the system does not have a functionality to limit the number of rentals booked and they were overbooked. Called Budget customer service and after complaining they were able to transfer my rental. My plans were delayed because of how disorganized they are. The location should know in advance the number of cars it needs and be able to plan ahead of time. Very unhappy with my experience and will not be renting from this location again. read more

I can not give this company any stars whatsoever. My husband and I went through the whole online rental process and were quoted a decent rental price. A red exclamation mark with the words "your credit card will be charged $295.95" and "rent it" right beside it. When I pressed "rent it" I was taken to another page where I was informed my credit card had been charged $383.92. When I called the customer service office I was told due to high demand the price had changed. When I argued that was not legitimate considering I was never given a new price to accept or refuse, they insisted I had signed off for that in the terms and conditions. This was categorically untrue. I spoke with 3 different people - and was told I couldn't speak to a supervisor until the next morning. The next day I lost several more hours to Budget on the telephone arguing this bait and switch was fraudulent. Finally one person - I spoke with 3 - agreed to take the charge off my credit card but it could take up to 48 hours. They didn't offer any kind of compensation or apology for my wasted time. Budget is a highly disreputable service and I have filed a complaint at the FTC. Do not give them your business. read more
