Budget Car Rental is a scam. I rent cars in the US very often, usually with Thrifty or Alamo. I've also used Budget before and never had major issues, but this last experience was outright dishonest. I rented a car for one day and purchased full coverage for peace of mind. The prepaid total was $92 and it clearly showed that everything was included. When I picked up the car at Miami Airport, I specifically asked if anything else needed to be paid and whether everything was okay. I was assured it was all set. I was in a rush, and the agent at the counter clearly noticed that. He handed me multiple pages to sign. I did check what I could, but I didn't have time to review every single sheet in detail. When I returned the car the next day, Budget charged me an additional $101. Only after that I found out they had added extra services without my clear consent: extra gas service option, supplemental liability insurance, extended roadside assistance, etc. I contacted customer support. They offered sympathy, but refused to refund anything and told me it was "company policy." So the only thing I can do now is warn others: don't use Budget. Choose a company that is transparent and takes responsibility instead of adding paid options without proper disclosure. read more

I have a large credit limit on my credit card and to get a deal, I was happy to prepay my rental. I returned my vehicle full of fuel and received a receipt showing charges that were $96 below my prepaid amount. When I called Budget to find out why the difference was not immediately refunded to my credit card, they told me to look at my rental agreement. I pointed out to the agent the summary on the receipt that showed my charges were $96 less than I prepaid. After a conference with his supervisor he told me that they would keep the difference. I have my credit card company disputing the charges because they are clearly marked on the receipt. I will not use Budget ever again over this deceptive practice. I am taking another trip and am using Hertz. On the surface they charge more, but Hertz is not known for deceptive practices. read more

Reserved a car through the website for a one way drop off Punta Gorda airport to Naples. Approximately 50 minute drive. Quoted Approximately 61 dollars. An Uber was $135. After returning the car my credit card was charged $461... Called Budget and was referred to customer service...you dont get to speak to anyone...It is all email.. After multiple attempts still no answer. Filed a dispute with my credit card company who stated the charge is valid because it is an "estimated" quote. I tried to explain to the Budget reservation representative and to the credit card company that the reservation was processed incorrectly. Who in their right mind would accept a reservation for a 50 minute drive and pay over $400. Should have taken the Uber. I shared another reservation booked same day one way drop off...no drop of fee shown. Buyer beware. Our company is planning on not using Budget any longer and filing a complaint with the Attorney Genetals office. Apparently this is standard practice for these guys. This place never picks up the phone. Ive called twice on two different days (sunday and monday) and they keep wanting to send me to a call center personnel. No. I want to talk to the place where I dropped off my car. The airport had told me that I could drop off anytime before 7pm. When I get there on Saturday they were closed by 2pm and on the door it said "No after hour drop offs". Disappointed and in a hurry I called the customer service number on the door, and still had to wait another half hour to get a hold of anyone at the call center. Finally I got a real live person who told me that I can drop the keys in their mailbox/dropbox thingy and leave the car in the drop off parking spot. I tried calling the day after and today to make sure everything was alright and they just won't pick up the phone. I also don't see a charge on my card at all for the rental... There are two agencies here run together. We actually rented through Avis but since it's not listed we are posting the review here because it is the manager who handles both agencies who was phenomenal. We gave only one hour's notice and needed a 4-wheel drive to head north in terrible weather. This man was so helpful explaining every aspect of the process, ensuring we got the safest car they had in stock- we got lucky with one 4WD just turned in- and then helped ensure we were charged fairly. Warning DO NOT RENT FROM BUDGET!!!!! They are scammers. We rented a vehicle from them last July 31st for a week which was a mission in itself since the vehicle we actually rented was not available once we arrived there with our reservation in hand. Since we were desperate we went with the next best thing they could offer us. This week Over 8 months later we received a letter in the mail saying that this vehicle received damage to the windshield and they will be charging the card on file $555. After many phone calls and still so much confusion we got nowhere with them. We spoke to Cooperate, and other departments and got nowhere. We did not incur any damage to this windshield. There was no proof, no pictures and the first time we heard about any damage whatsoever, was over 8 months later via a letter. They withdrew the money like the scamming bullies that they are. This place is pathetic and I am disgusted with the way they do business. This is specific to the BUDGET/AVIS rental office located in Riverchase Plaza on the corner of Tamiami Trail North & Immokalee Road in Naples. The contract was with Budget..I don't know if they share an office or it is the same owner. Doesn't matter. Don't go there!! I wish I would have read these reviews before I booked. I booked a pickup for a Sunday. I needed a pickup to get furniture I had put a deposit on located on the other coast. I specifically reiterated I needed a pickup. I needed it from 3:00 Sunday until 3:00 Monday. I was informed they closed at noon on Sunday and I had to return it at noon on Monday or be charged a whole additional day and a $20 late fee if I did not book for 2 days in advance. After much discussion, explaining I didn't want to pick it up at noon but if they closed it was not my fault. He finally agreed to give me a delayed return but I MUST remind him when I returned the car. OK, no problem. I arrive to pick up the truck on Sunday and he has no truck. He is not apologetic in the least. Just says, I don't know what to tell you. I don't have a truck. Someone apparently didn't return it. I was offered a cargo van or an SUV. I told him I would not be able to fit all of the furniture in either, but I might be able to fit a chair I was purchasing. If I didn't go and take a chance, I would lose my $200 deposit. He was in a rush to get out of there at exactly 12:00. I measured a van but it was filthy and had not been cleaned or sanitized. (this is when COVID is rampant) I was hesitant, so he agreed to give me half off just to get me out of there, so he could close. He even said that . Keep in mind, this is a Sunday at noon and there are no other places for me to get a car open for the day and people had made plans to meet me, I had a deposit at stake, etc. So I get the keys and go to a different van he gave me the keys to. It is FULL OF CAT HAIR AND SMELLS HORRIFIC. Also, the gas tank was only between 1/2 and 3/4. I tried to go back and show him the gas tank, so I would not be forced to pay $9.99 a gallon if I didn't bring it back full and also to see if I could get a different van as I am allergic to cats and concerned that it had clearly not been cleaned. He was locked up an gone by the time I has walked to the car and opened it and turned around to go back inside! I had to leave the windows down all the way ( it poured rain, of course) because the stench and my eyes watering and nose running. I was able to at least get the chair that I had purchased to fit, but I had to forgo the other things I wanted. Upon my return of the vehicle, I reminded him that he would not charge me the late fee. He said ok. I continued to tell him about the gas and the cat hair. He is again UNAPOLOGETIC, and frankly rude. He then hands me my receipt and has charged me FULL PRICE!! I said you made a mistake it should not be this much. His response was "Too late. He couldn't go back and change it now. He forgot because I was talking"!!! I said this was unacceptable. He said there is nothing he could do about it. I said I was going to report him. He said if I want to rent a car from him again, he will give me the discount. But if I give him a bad review then there is nothing he can do! As if I would EVER rent from there again! Now in all fairness, I did call the Budget national company and they knocked $40 off of my bill. However, I had to go through the annoying process of reaching the correct person, recounting my story, etc. after the aggravation of the whole horrible experience to begin with. SO..DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE DEPENDING ON THE VEHICLE. I guess it could have been worse. I could have missed a holiday vacation as someone in a previous review of this place did. Multiple reviews of not having the reserved vehicle, or any vehicle. Dirty vehicles and rude service. The process of car rental went smoothly, I checked the car in online and collected it from Budget at Piazza Garibaldi. Didn't have any issues with the car, however, when collecting it, I was told that Budget is offering a service where, it can be returned with the tank partially full and the company would charge me a maximum of €83, the price of fuel would be approx. €1.32 plus taxes. I usually return cars once I've filled the tank however, on this occasion, I was getting late to check in to my flight and considering what I was told when I picked the car up, I decided to return it when it was 3/8 full (it cost €60 to fill the tank). On returning, the collection representatives, who also collect for Avis and Maggiore looked at the car, turned on the engine and said it would cost me €83 as I hadn't returned the car full. When I challenged them, they reduced the price to €69. I obviously wasn't happy and went to full the car up myself, which cost me €25. I thought, going to a well known brand would prevent me being ripped off but I was wrong. They however felt it was appropriate to over charge me almost €60. Quite a dishonest and profitable sideline! Reserved and paid in full months prior to pick up on 2 separate occasions in 2020. On both occasions, Budget did not have my car. The 1st time, I had to drive to another location to pick up. The 2nd time, they did not have any vehicle in my class (Chevy Tahoe) in Southwest Florida. Owner shrugged his shoulders and said it was beyond his control. Budget knows how to lure you in with cheap rental prices, but they do NOT know how to keep the reservation. Enterprise, a 1/2 mile up the street, had one and saved our family Christmas vacation. I would've given A 5 star review for the fact that they did upgrade me to a nicer car, but the only reason the did that was because they didn't have the one I rented ready. Besides the point I chose to decline the insurance policy, which I left my receipt in the car, and I got charged for that. I had to go through a whole ordeal to not only NOT get my money back and then my bank canceled my credit card. 2 months later I got another charge for a ticket I had received while driving the rental. I paid off the ticket and still got charged an additional fee through Budget. I will never go to this location again or to any other Budget rental for that matter. Booked a rental online months ago of christmas eve pick at 12pm. Online it says they are open until 6pm. On the email confirmation, it say the store is open until 6pm. Arrive a few minutes past 12 and the store is closed. We are left without our rental car and avis/budget are sold out in the whole area. Could not get to family for the holiday. read more

This review is not necessarily about the service but one of the employees. I am unfamiliar with the area and I was lost so my first instinct is to go into a store and ask for some help. I see this shop which is completely empty except for two men who seemed to be casually talking, as they were laughing and not very formal. So I walk in and asked if I was anywhere near the destination I was supposed to be. I am not exaggerating when I say that this man blew up on me. Literally one of the worst experiences of my life dealing with any company. Been renting cars for 16 years from all of the major car rental companies with little to no issues. Turned away today and left stranded at the rental company because of a credit check. I'm a 42 year old employed male with plenty of money in the bank. I choose not to have a credit card so that I do not have additional debt. Don't recall ever feeling so humiliated in my life. If Budget is willing to turn down business from customers who have the money and are willing to pay, I wish them luck. Could have taken an additional deposit off of my debit card. No problem picking up a rental truck, charged correctly. The truck itself didn't have rear running lights that worked. Cost about $110 to rent, but the thing had 133,000 miles. Dropped it off in Orlando, got pretty crappy 8 MPG. The light thing bugs me, they should check them. read more

We get here at about 3:10pm telling them we called earlier to exchange a car and told us they had no cars available. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! Buyer beware of Budget and its egregious service. Our reserved car was not available when we arrived at Budget on January 31 and we were forced at the last minute to drive A PICK-UP TRUCK to Atlanta, and one dirty and apparently uninspected at that. Less than an hour later on I-75, we experienced a loud blow-out in our left rear tire. Budget insisted on CHARGING US FOR ITS EQUIPMENT FAILURE rather than acknowledging its own failure. Let me start by saying I am not with Budget, but these two reviews are slightly askew based on my experience. I have always been amused whenever I read these reviews. This location rents trucks and cars, which is extremely helpful. The cars and trucks were clean inside and out. I had a flat tire in the truck ran over a nail, I paid to have the tire fixed. I mentioned it to Budget, they reimbursed me the cost of the repair. I find it hard to believe the guy who had to replace the lights didn't submit the receipts to Budget. I was 45 minutes late returning my car from Ft Meyers 2 years ago and they told me I had a 59 minute grace period, didn't cost me extra. They even reminded me to fill up my tank so I wouldn't get charged the gas thing. So to the guy griping about the 20 minutes how late were you really? I work retail so I never take the name calling personally. It is so hard to find a little common courtesy these days, this place is nice and clean. Oh yeah the staff is bi-lingual, I watched them explain the guy ahead of me everything on his contract so he knew what he was signing. They have my business whenever I visit Florida, because they get the little touches right. read more

The car was in top shape and the owner was efficient. My only advice if you are renting from this location is to allow a few extra minutes (15 or 20) when picking up (or returning) your car. We rented a Fiat for five days while on holidays in Fort Myers. When we got a flat tire we called the number given to get the tire changed. THREE months later I got a bill for $208 which was almost the same price as the rental itself. We called repeatedly and asked each time to speak to a supervisor. Each time we were told that wasn't possible but that someone would call within 48 hours. However, after each phone call we just got a form email saying the amount had already been charge to my credit card and that no changes would be made.
