Yes it is off site and yes you have to take a shuttle and yes the shop is old, but the service was great. We were quickly picked up at the airport and the car was ready for us when we got there. On our way home we were caught in an ice storm. They graciously let me take the same rental for another day and quickly came Back to the airport when our flight was cancelled. They had the car running and the heater on. I did have one technical problem during the rental but the manager walked me through it over the phone. Other than that it was great. Service was courteous. Shuttle to off airport location and return is to the offsite location. However courteous, the vehicle refuel policy has a mileage limit that charges the customer 10 bucks a gallon to refuel rentals for customers that travel over 70 miles. This policy wasn't explained clearly to me and in my opinion is totally excessive!!!! FYI not a corporate policy , but a locally owned franchise policy. I preferably choose Budget in other cities but now it will be my last choice in Lubbock. read more

I never use Budget for car rentals and o lumbered this rental because other agencies were out of cars. You have to catch a shuttle to get to the location. They do have a shuttle and the driver was able to have them get the car ready for the arrival. The rental process was good. My biggest issue was paying over for $500 for compact car when I rented the standard size. I was in a rush so I didn't even ask. I'm guessing the price was because other locations were out of cars but the price was absolutely ridiculous. Then I was asked where I would be staying while I was here which I've never experienced with any other car rental company. I wanted to be petty and ensure them I would not be running away with a nissan versa but I left it alone. Lol Anyway I just didn't appreciate this experience. I'll be sure to never book at the last minute again to avoid situations such as this. read more

Oh my gosh, I cannot say enough good things about the amazing people at this Budget office. I tell you, the people that work here are some of the kindest and most pure hearted people that I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I have never experienced such high quality service and am truly honored that I had the opportunity to rent from this particular office. Just to set the scene, we (myself and two daughters, one of whom is 18 months old) arrived at the airport at 11pm. It was dark and cold and we had no idea where we were going. Then, suddenly, like out of a movie, the Budget shuttle pulls up and the sweetest man asked us where we were going and if we needed help. He then proceeded to load our two suitcases, stroller, and car seat onto the shuttle for us and took us to the office (which was a 2 minute drive away). When we got there, the car was pulled out in the front with the trunk popped open ready to be loaded. This kind man then proceeded to unload our luggage from the shuttle and into the trunk of our car, without even being asked! I am dead serious when I say that I wanted to tip him a 20 (but I wasn't sure if that was socially acceptable or not). The lady who received us at the counter was so sweet and gave us directions and restaurant recommendations. She was truly like a ray of sunshine and just radiated warmth and kindness. Getting to the rental itself, the car was nice and clean. I was highly impressed with the level of service, especially at a smaller airport. There were no issues with picking up or dropping off the car. Coming back, drop off was a breeze until we realized that our flight was going to be delayed by almost 6 hours. We called the budget car rental office again to see if we could use our car for another few hours (and this all happened between the hours of 6am and 7am in the morning) and to our surprise they said yes! They sent a shuttle back to the airport to look for us and waited to make sure that we were taken care of. The level of sincerity was just unreal. I have never experienced this level of care and seeing these lovely people go out of their way to help us just makes me feel so proud to be in Texas. This budget rental office should have the front cover of "Southern Hospitality USA". Five stars is genuinely not enough for the hard working men and women at this Budget office. They are truly the best and deserve more than a raise. Shoutout to you lovely folks and keep doing what you're doing! read more

Budget at the Lubbock airport is a good place to do business, but there are some things you should know. The national organization which runs the reservation website doesn't pass all the information to the local shop. Some marketing clown has decided that advertising a seven seat SUV and swapping it to a five seat SUV is equivalent. I rented specifically for extra passenger space, so this caused some friction between me and the local shop. But they stepped up and made it right. So, how do you have the best possible experience? Enter your reservation online, bit then call the Lubbock office. Talk to them about what you need. And answer their calls when they reach out to confirm or adjust your reservation. Don't be afraid to ask questions, because the national website even has the hours of operation wrong. The local Budget office at the Lubbock airport has a great staff that will help you have a good experience. read more

WARNING: The Lubbock airport location of Budget seems to be a franchisee that does not adhere to industry standards regarding honoring reservations. All other car rentals that I have experience in the past hold your reserved vehicle for 24 hrs. This is also true of all the companies inside the Lubbock airport. This location gave my vehicle away just 45 minutes after my confirmed time of arrival. There was no other cars available with Budget, nor any other car rental company that weekend. I informed them that I was stranded with my 88 year old disabled mother. They offered no assistance and no apology, and made it clear that it was my own fault. Be careful, there is little to no Uber or Lyft here. So if you rent from this location and your car is given away, then you are stuck. Do yourself a big favor, pay a bit more and go with another company. read more

Staff was friendly enough. They offer airport parking so I parked my personal car and flew to San Diego CA. I was bringing a dog back so had arranged a one way rental from SD to Lubbock. Returned the car on time, picked up my car and thought that was the end of it. The counter person said something about it being a "corporate car" but I had no clue what that meant. I had returned the car to the location stated on the contract. Two days later, I got an email from Avis/Budget loss prevention wanting to know why I hadn't turned the car in. This was accompanied by an 1800 charge on my credit card! Finally I talk to someone who asks a bunch of questions and finally assured me the contract would be closed out. Horrible service, do not rent for them at all! Worst experience of my life. I rent a car from Hotwire.com. To go out of town with my grandma. I brought insurance from Allianz Global Assistance( rental car insurance) and when I went to pick up the car. The manager David ask my insurance, I showed him the insurance I brought and yelled at me, "No your personal car insurance!" And I told him I don't have car insurance because I don't have a car. And he told well you can't rent with us since you have insurance. And I told him, I purchase insurance and here is the policy that covers the cars & other things. And then another women employee comment in on conversation and said you need car insurance to rent a car in Lubbock. And I told her I have used this insurance for the last two rental I got in December & January. And she told me it wasn't good enough and I need car insurance. And that I should be flagged by all rental agencies to not be allowed to rent any cars in Lubbock. I have been renting car since 2013 & never had a problem with rental agencies. And I told her I purchase the insurance and reserved the car on Hotwire.com. She told me that Hotwire is a scam and do not rent from them. I have never had a problem with Hotwire.com. And not once did they offer me to buy insurance from them. I called Corporate and report them and how I was treated. And corporate said they don't understand why they didn't offer me insurance or taken the insurance I purchased because they saw no problem with the insurance. I will never do business with them nor will my family or friends. My aunt is a flight attendant and rents car from them and Avis when she on her trips. I told her what happens and she cancels membership with them. The employee and Manager are extremely rude & disrespectful. And when I explain to my grandma what happen. she called to talk to them to see what was the problem. And the woman employee from earlier was rude & disrespectful to my grandma on the phone when she asked about the insurance and how they scam me out of my money and the women hung up on her. The Budget person apologized for the situation and I told them they should not get frustrated with the customer, after all I am the one with no car and I had a reservation. I have been renting a car here about twice a month, on and off for the last nine months. I absolutely love this location because: Reliably wonderful staff every time. Price is reasonable, and much cheaper than renting from the companies within the airport. Super easy to get from airport to this location. The most I've ever had to wait for a ride, was maybe ten minutes. Usually, the budget van is waiting at the airport (so, most of the time: NO waiting :-) . Great cars. (When I don't rent a car, it's because I'm borrowing it from someone. Not because I'm using another company). Really, really great location! Ps: after reading the other two reviews, I want to say that every car I've rented has been clean and in great condition. If there's any damage to the body, they notice it on the ticket and I haven't been charged for it. One time (Out 10 rentals, or so) I had a car that had a crack on the windshield. It wasn't bad and didn't impair my vision. My experience is so positive that i struggle to understand the other reviews... read more

If you want a good laugh and memorable travel experience, rent from here. You will most definitely receive an interesting car to drive around. You'll also have a good old lesson of "you get what you pay for." With a name like Budget, I suppose I shouldn't have expected much? I'm a loyal Hertz customer, but they were unfortunately closed when my late flight landed so I had to rent from here by default. First off, there wasn't any type of signage letting us know we needed to take a shuttle to the location, as it's off-site (all others are on site). Being that it was late, nothing was open at the airport and someone finally told us there was a shuttle. The shuttle was pretty much the only positive of this silliness...the driver was very nice and we didn't wait at all...he's the reason for the 2 stars instead of 1. Now onto the vehicle selection. I usually just don't care when it comes to a rental car. It's not like it's my personal vehicle or that I am even the one paying for it (my job covers it). I did notice this was very cheaply priced, compared to most of my rentals (also, I had it for 6 days so that might include a multi-day discount or something). However, I've also never been given a rental that looks like it's someone else's personal car that I'm borrowing. My car was a complete mess. It was filthy and I felt gross just sitting in it. The drivers seat was all stained up and the car just smelled horrible. There were so many dings and dents, I was shocked that they even let something like this be rented. Just when I thought it couldn't be any worse, my coworker was given her vehicle. I'm not kidding when I say we were laughing hysterically when we saw this thing...it seemed like something from an episode of a prank show. There are at least 7 huge chips/cracks out of the windshield...it honestly looks like this car was involved in a shoot out and high speed police chase. I cannot believe they are able to rent this to people. The one particular crack looks just like a bullet hole and was a star shaped crack that spread a little more each day. This car also wasn't very clean and the body was banged up. I really would love to know what happened to this thing because there has to be a great story behind it. If I find myself in this predicament next time, I'll just Uber to my hotel and return to the airport the next morning to pick up a car from Hertz. read more

I didn't realize I would be with out a rental being that they were closed. someone told me to talk to budget because they were the only ones open. well I'm so glad I did the driver and counter agent were super kind and gave me a great deal! Just don't go here. It's privately owned. Offsite if the airport and budget doesn't tell you that so it's the only provider that has to shuttle. People are rude and there are no options. Use Avis versus budget here as they are corporate. read more

Absolute worst car rental experience of my life, this is from an Engineer who has rented vehicles all over the world. Rented a car from Budget Lubbock Airport, total cost of $150.00 and change. Had an emergency back in Austin, called Budget and they said we could drop the car off at Austin Airport for an additional $70.00, that is what we did. Upon returning the vehicle at Austin Airport, the Budget employee stated they had never seen a rental agreement as the one we received in Lubbock. Sounded strange, I inquired if all rental agreements were the same, one would think so, as Budget is a pretty big company. Came to find the Budget Lubbock is an independent Licensee of Budget Car Rental, shouldn't matter to the general public, but it did. Got home and received a call from Budget Lubbock Airport, no hello or how was your rental, only and I quote, "You owe us $1000.00 for dropping the car off in Austin". Because the agreements are not standard, they could not find that we checked the vehicle in at Austin Airport. Budget Lubbock called back and stated, "we will charge you for everyday we cannot fine the car". Out of curiosity I checked my credit card online, sure enough there was a pending charge from Budget for $1000.00. Now the rental was not on the statement, guess they haven't found the car yet, which seems to be my problem. Have called Budget Corporate, they have issued a Claim Case number, will be five to seven days before I hear anything - hmmmm! Received another call from Budget Lubbock Airport and wanted to know when and to whom we dropped the car off to, really, did we not just cover this. Now the person in Lubbock is heated up, demanding, insulting and threatening. Really, from a car rental company. I see the other posts here and totally concur. If you are in Lubbock, do not rent from these folks. I would go as far to state that I will be cognizant in the future that any rental car I obtain will not be from an Independent System Licensee of any car rental company. On to the credit card and denying the charges and fighting Budget Independent System Licensee. Don't you just love customer service these days. read more

This place should be called Rent a Wreck. Have rented from this location twice and both times I have been given dented up, damaged wrecks. This last time I had fog light wires hanging from the front end due to damage, dents everywhere, sacked out suspension, road noise like you would not believe and stained seats all around. I went in both times and asked for a different vehicle and was told I was given the last car. Funny thing (except I am not laughing) is I had a co-worker arrive an hour after I did and get a much nicer vehicle. Check out the other rental car locations first before using Budget. One thing that is nice is they pick you up out front and deliver you to your car offsite. Can't beat that if it is raining or a dust storm or a snow storm.
