There is a large park next door and a selection of shops very close by. Ideal for motor homes as you dont need to use your car whilst you are there. Something went on the car and limped in saying where do we go..they tried to say stop..said not unless you want us here in the entrance all day..engine off..full stop! Managed to get in position and set up. A nice man in a wax jacket and wellies asked me what I thought of the lay out. I think I gave him a 10 min speech on how to improve it and he made notes and said thank you we are learning. I asked if he was the event organiser when someone called to him..Your Lordship................ Anyway a bit later I took a break and went to look around the Priory. Spent an interesting hour or so. Things to see are England's best documented collections of Chippendale furniture, designed especially for the house. A large art collection, with works by Pieter Brueghel and Angelica Kauffmann, the lovely 18th-century doll's-house (with its original fittings and Chippendale-style furniture), a huge library libraries in the National Trust's portfolio and the John Harrison long-case clock. This led to mistake number 2. Wandering down a corridor I met an elderly lady in carpet slipper. She was arranging flowers on a table there. We chatted and she said have you seem our Brueghel and took my hand..whizzed me off to it. She left me there and I told the security guy what a nice old lady the cleaner was..yes His Lordships mother! Anyway they have lots of fairs and events in the grounds and there is a childrens playground..a cafe in the stable yard area. Apparently it is now National Trust but maybe the family still live there. It costs about £5 for the garden (when no event on) and £7 including house.

The stately home is very imposing and is interesting to walk around, although there are guides in nearly every room, which can feel a little intimidating. There is a lovely cafe, which is great on a sunny day, as you can sit outside in a beautiful setting. The cafe is near the childrens' play area, which is well thought through. Nostell Priory has a number of special events during the year and, in the summer, they had themed family events every Thursday, which were enjoyable, although quite simple. The only negative I would offer is that you should be able to visit the cafe without having to pay entrance fee/ be a NT member.

We walked from home to the branch with the things you would expect to need - credit card, driver's licence, etc. When they ran the credit card, for whatever reason their system couldn't confirm our address. (Why is this even a thing? Surely it's good that random store clerks can't find out your address from your credit card?) But they refused to give us the car without proof of address. They were singularly unhelpful - we had a letter from the bank with us, on letterhead, with our name and address on it, but they wouldn't accept it. We offered to email a utility bill to them that they could print out but they 'were not allowed to'. All we could do was go home, get a bill and walk all the way back there. It was infuriating and wasted about two hours. What a weird policy - I have never experienced this before, even when hiring from Europcar in continental Europe. I have no idea what you would do if you were a tourist in that situation. I told them they need to at least warn people about this policy but they seemed completely disinterested in improving their customer service. I'll be avoiding them if possible in the future. Service from Enterprise at the train station was much better.
