After several issues with Amber Cars over the years, I have to say that they are totally useless…read moreand unreliable. I have been left waiting for over half an hour for a taxi to pick me up after work as their driver decided to pick up a group of girls that ordered a taxi 15 minutes after we did. A member of my family ordered a taxi a day in advance to get to a hospital appointment, but said taxi never showed up. When we rang them, we were told that it wouldn't be coming as it was during prayer time. If they had let us know that they wouldn't be available at that time, we could have made different arrangement, but ended up panicking to get there on time. We've also ordered a taxi to take an I'll pet to the vets, only for the car to turn up and refuse to transport animals despite us specifically mentioning that we needed a driver that would take pets! Also, in 2022 when cash usage has dropped in favour of cashless payments because of covid, refusing card payments seems a little backwards.

Since…read moremoving house last year I've been using Ace a ton, since their rank is literally five minutes away from me, and they seem to turn up lightening fast. And after the incident (detailed in my last review) I didn't feel inclined to use Amber again for a while. And then you need a taxi, fast, and it doesn't matter who you go with. So long as you get one! The morning rush meant that even calling an hour early for my taxi was risky. Riskier than usual. Two failed attempts from other companies and I tried Amber, imagining that it'd be a similar story. Not the case! For a start, they've obviously got my number on record, since the chap in the office knew where I was and my name. He then tracked the nearest car, told me his location, and gave a very reasonable estimate as to how long it'd take to arrive. Sure enough, five minutes later, along came my car. The driver was super friendly, and had no worries at all on getting me to the station in time, and provided much chat on the way. All in all, Amber's back in my good books. The chap in the office was a delight, really helpful, and honest about the time it would take - none of that "It'll be ten minutes" when they mean 25. Lovely stuff!

The station has barriers and normally you won't go through without a ticket. On occasion the barriers are open. On weekends, I guess. There are actually a few entrances to the station. Plenty of car parking and bicycle parking available. Toilets are small, but clean and cubicles are of a good size. In the middle, between the platforms, there appears to be another waiting room, besides the heated one where Costa is located and I endured an hour of wait. In general the station seems well looked after! You will hear plenty of timely announcements and everywhere screens that show the train times.

It wasn't so much that I…read morewould downgrade beyond being a fan, as let's face it, I am a fan - they are my rock in the taxi world. It just upsets me when a new/inexperienced driver comes along, has no idea what so ever where we're going, fails to use sat nav and finally only knocks a mere quid off the fee for my lengthy journey. A bugbear of mine is taxi drivers not knowing where we're going. After all, that's what you expect of them. I know new drivers can't be an expert instantly but it helps if you know the area a little bit. As soon as I got in I told him that I couldn't direct him, as I'd never been to my destination before. I did know, however, that Armley was not in the direction of Meanwood. A sinking feeling arose in my stomach - does he even know the vague areas of Leeds?! Hrmph. I felt at that point the strongest longing for a smart phone I've ever had - oh to have the internet right then and there! Anyway. Long story short, I was 25 minutes late for my first ever physio appointment and so literally had ten-fifteen minutes with them and had to call another taxi home. Angry? Yes. Deflated? Yes. Will I call Ace for my next appointment? Doubtful. But I will call them for most everything else, since, they are usually very reliable. And, in spite of the odd new driver like this, they practically teleport to my front door when I call them. I do love you Ace, but we've had a bit of a tiff, so I'm giving you the cold shoulder. Pretty quick arrival, nice car and friendly driver. Good work on all fronts. We need to know which taxis can be trusted and on my brief encounter these boys won't let you down. I'm sure at busier times, they will of course have slower responses but I can only spread the word on my experience. If you need a taxi, don't call the Ghostbusters as that would be silly. I used Royal Crown Taxis to help transport me from my home, to Manchester Airport ahead of a recent…read moretrip to Manchester Airport, having been giving the cheapest quote from them in a mini-bus. Since the Uber revolution, I normally have hated using taxis but sadly with Uber's inability to prebook and with it being hard to get a taxi in Middleton on the best of days, let alone trying to get a mini-bus very early in the morning, I had to go with Royal Crown on this occasion. It might be useful to know they have two contact numbers, with both still being in action after Royal and Crown merged to create a larger taxi firm, which still seems to lack behind Connect Cars and Diamond Cars when considering the biggest firm in Middleton. The numbers for Royal and Crown are: 0161 643 0000 0161 643 6464 Using two numbers, helps to ensure you get through quickly as soon as possible which definitely beats other firms including the likes of Middleton Cars, a smaller rival to Royal Crown who seem harder to get in touch of, with only a single number in use. Royal Crown are based on Lakeland Court in the Langley area of Middleton, but they seem to have taxis all over the town. The driver who came to pick me up, getting there seemed a little rude and impatient, as when I was picking my friend up, also going to the airport he just got out of the car, walking up and down and staring into the window, which was quite rude considering they did only take literally minutes to get to the door, and it was a shame he didn't wait patiently, and try to build some conversation and show some good levels of customer service. I was also upset to have to also pay the £2 to get into the car park to drop me off, as well as the fare which was frustrating. On my way back, it was also concerning, I'd gave the details of my return journey to my driver, and I actually was not contacted by the company to update me on my taxi, so was sat outside the airport 10 or so minutes after arriving in Manchester from Paris on time, and going through baggage security, which shown they didn't track the flight as promised. The mini-bus picking me up, on both journeys didn't seem very nice, they were simply not nice vechiels and quite old, having used an UberXL before, which is like a mini-bus, I found them much nicer, cleaner and the drivers much nicer so this was a shame. Due to the level of service provided by Royal Crown and the quality of both the journey and the car, I sadly would not recommend them in the future, as they seemed to be less reliable and trust-worthy especially on services which are pre-booked and to Manchester Airport, which is a shame as especially at this time of the year, they should be trying hard to be the best, not the worst company transporting passengers from Middleton to the Airport.
