I was in the Mountain View area ..I needed to get some rest so I decided to go to the Budget Motel..Wow was I in for a horrible nightmare!! So when I pulled up, I asked if I could see a room .. The lady showed me the room and I told her it smelled pretty strong of chemicals, but she told me that's the only room she had.. so stupidly on my part I decided to take it. Also, the price that they gave me in cash$ was different than the actual price that they had listed online... They overcharged me for the room.. then when I got into the room, I sat down in a chair. I wasn't on the chair more than maybe 10 to 15 minutes when I felt my back and my whole body feeling itchy... I called them up and this nasty man answered.. I asked him if I could get my money back. I was having a really bad allergy.. I told him I might even have to call the medics. He said good. Go call 911. We're not going to return your money!! . I had a awful night there. I was itching, the heater doesn't even fully work and there's cold air coming in all night long. It was just a terrible experience. These people have absolutely NO hospitality. They are so rude!! They are from India, but I think they discriminate against Caucasian individuals.. I highly recommend that you do not do any business with this place. The first time I stayed here it just sort of happened last minute. But, I had such a pleasant experience, I have stayed several more times since. The attraction to me is that it IS an old building. Very nostalgic for those of us that our families took us to when we were children in the 1950's and '60's. Except that the beds now are wonderfully comfortable and the TV works nicely and everything you could possibly want is within walking distance. The couple that manage this gem are the nicest people in the world. The last time i stayed here to have a tooth pulled, they found a car for me to hire to pick me up at the dentist and return me to my room. Later, she asked if I needed ice or anything else. Please read these reviews. I had to make a quick reservation for my parents who wanted to stick to a budget. A quick look online and then a phone call pointed to the Budget Motel. I called to get a quote for three days. $139 per night. This was enough to send the phone number to mom and have her ask a few more questions. The lady said that the room available had only one full size bed. Hmmn, a little small for two people but if a two bed room would come available she would save it. My mother asked if there would be a difference in price and was told it would be the same $139. Well that all changed when my folks arrived in person. The two bed room was available and before you know it the owner had charged the three nights at a rate of $179. After my mom looked at it she tried to explain that she had been quoted a rate of $139 even for the two bed room. Downhill from there. You will see many complaints from other reviews of rudeness by the man at the front desk. This man accused us of trying to CHEAT him!!! It got pretty ugly. I went there in person to try to reason with him and no use. We ended up leaving that night and of course paying for the night. He says he refunded card and for the other two nights but time will tell. Perhaps there was confusion over the phone, a civil conversation could have solved this. But this was a very angry man. He kept saying "I know where you come from and I am tired of your type trying to cheat us" It just didn't make sense. He asked if I had ever stayed in a hotel before? "Don't you know that a room with two beds costs more that a room with one bed" Yes except when we are told by you that the price would be the same!!! And then you call us a liar and a cheat when we say this is what we were told!! UNBELIEVABLE! I hope this man can turn a his attitude around. I could hear children in the room behind the office. I assume he lives there with his family and this is how they make their living. His family should not have to suffer for the inhospitable attitude of this person. Stay at your own risk. Get your rate quote on a recording because they do not email confirmations. BTW if you are the owner and you are reading this. Yep, I have stayed in other hotels. I practically live in them all over the country at times. I know it is difficult to own a business in this town and you must be under a lot of pressure to survive. We did find another place for them to stay and they did not end up sleeping in their car as you so kindly pointed out was the risk if we did not take your "best and lowest rate in town. Normally that may be true but this is a slow week for hotels because everyone is on vacation elsewhere. We were able to get a room that normally goes for over $400 a night for $149. My good friend stayed here for a few nights. It was recommended by his potential employer. WHAT? Could they have recommended some place better? It's Mountain View. There are places that are way better than the Budget Motel. We ended up calling this place the "fabulous" hotel, just for jokes. The rooms were tiny. You could walk from one end of the room to the other in about ten steps with a few twists of the body to avoid banging into the bed or tv stand, or wall. In order to sit on the one chair in the room, you would have to back into it and twist your body to avoid cracking your ribs from the round table that took up precious space. There was precisely 12 inches between the bed and the walls. You couldn't feel more cramped, unless you were a contortionist or spiderman or wanted to practice salsa. I was told that service was bad too. The manager was not welcoming or professional. When my friend called to ask about breakfast, the guy said "you can pay $150 and I'll get you breakfast". He would NOT be happy to see you or hear from you. It is what you pay for. You might be better off looking at Yelp's 'You might also want to consider' section, just above all these reviews (or lack thereof). The only good thing my friend mentioned was that there were covered carports, which made it very nice for the rainy weekend he visited the Bay Area. The carport was almost the same size as the room, and also allowed precisely 12 inches from the body of the car to the wall. Convenient location close to Castro meant good food was only a short walk away. read more

Wow this motel is from hell. We where quoted for two beds at 129 and then when we get there it's one bed for 149. We expressed that we where unhappy with the price increase since where quoted a lower price when we called. Then the angry man calls us and feels that we should apologize for expressing our feeling that we where lied too. This man called the police us because he thought my mom was not Disabled when we parked in the disabled spot. The cop came and proved our papers are right and she was disabled yet the man didn't like that he was wrong so we exercised his right refuse service. read more

The woman at the front desk wasn't incredibly accommodating, but the price and availability was right. $70/night for two hard beds and slightly scratchy sheets. I would give this 3-1/2 stars, so 4 is what I can give it in actuality. It's like a 2-1/2 to 3-star place except the cost is low so it gets extry points. For around 60 bucks, there's nothing wrong with this place. There's a 100 dollar place next door which might be a little nicer, but this place was fine. The room was a bit tiny, but the bed was ok, which is unusual for a place at this price. Everything was clean, the help was helpful, there was no deposit needed, and I was in real quick and it was like 5 steps to my car. I stayed there on two occasions. The first time it seemed OK, although there was a dead fly on the top of the head board and the toilet didn't work very well. The next time I had a different room. when I entered it I noticed that the window was open. There was a musty odor, which seemed unusual for a hotel room. I was tired and ignored it. The second day I returned at 8:30PM and the window was open again. I was concerned that my belongings were not as secure as I had left them in the morning. The musty odor was stronger. After a few minutes it began to bother me and I asked if I could switch to another room. The woman at the desk told me there were no more nonsmoking rooms left. First she asked me if I could just leave the window open so that the smell would go away. I pointed out that someone had already had the window open most of the day without fixing things. She next tried to tell me that she couldn't smell it but the odor might be Pine Sol from the VERY minimal cleaning that had been performed that day. It obviously wasn't. Then she changed her story again and said she didn't smell anything at all and just walked away. I Returned at 11:45PM and counted the cars in the lot. 6 vehicles, including mine, and 7 rooms marked nonsmoking. I have no confidence in anything they say and definitely don't plan to return there. read more

I had a very bad experience from this hotel. I got a non smoking room which seems not cleaned. The bedsheets were having blood stains. I complained to the front desk but the front desk guy was so rude and was blaming me saying that I was telling lie even though I showed them the bed sheet with blood stains. Great motel! Room was very, very comfortable, and Bob the owner was very friendly and nice. A real deal, easy parking in the lot too. Good wi-fi as well, nice TV with SDTV. Great location too, right by Castro Street. Best of all, it was an old-fashioned motor court, which I don't think I've stayed in since I was a kid. Horrible. The guy working the desk yelled at my girlfriend and called her a liar after she asked him 3 different times if they were pet friendly. Each time he said yes only to start screaming when the dog got out of the car. And I do mean screaming. Even if there was a miscommunication due to a language barrier, he might have started off by talking like an adult human being. Instead he just yelled at the top of his lungs and tried to tell us to leave refusing a refund. Amazing deal for the money. I stayed almost a week when a planned rental situation didn't work out. Knowing I could continue to stay here as long as I needed to, until I could find new housing, took a load of stress off my mind. Yes, the rooms are tiny, and the decor wasn't exactly cutting edge, but it's a hotel two blocks from Castro Street for under $70/night! For the price, it's outstanding. All the rooms have tiny microwaves and fridges, as well as TVs and free wi-fi. It was clean when I moved in, including the bathroom. The towels and sheets were not high-thread-count, but also quite clean. There was daily cleaning service, and fresh towels and sheets when I asked (I requested that they not be changed daily, since I was staying several days and didn't want to waste the water and soap.) The only major drawbacks were clothing storage - the dresser was too rickety to put stuff in, and the space for hanging clothes was pretty small. The "management" is a family who lives in a small house behind the office. They were unfailingly polite and kind to me. Sometimes the only person in the office had limited english, and for complicated questions, she had to call someone on the phone, but they always dealt with my needs. Knowing that it was their home helped me to feel comfortable while "homeless" in a new place. I would totally stay here again. read more

We checked in to this motel one night, and were moving our stuff into the room. The manager noticed us standing outside in the parking lot smoking a cigarette (we could not get a smoking room) and he angrily and rudely confronted us. He said that in his judgement we smoked too much, and that we should stop smoking outdoors as it would get on our clothes and infect his (cheapest in the city) hotel room. We politely told him that we would not smoke in the room, and that was all he could legally ask for. The next day, I caught the manager trying to key into my room. when I opened the door as he slid his key-card, he told me that he had to search my room because he saw us smoking outside. To make sure we had not damaged the room because we were "those kind of people" On both occasions he had an angry pouting expression on his face, like a small child about to cry from having it's ice cream taken away. I'm white, a film director, and the guy I'm travelling with is a systems administrator at the NASA research facility. He has angrily harassed us 3 times now. While I was out smoking a cigarette another time, I saw him stop by the rooms of a few Indian customers (the manager is Indian). Instead of angrily demanding to search their rooms, he smiled and politely asked them if their stay was comfortable. To the budget motel chain, I think you have a racist representing you. Also, I should mention that when I answered the door, he looked very surprised as though he had been expecting to search my room when I was gone. When I asked him for a moment to put on some clothes, he lost interest entirely and wandered off, as though there would be no way to check the room for indoor smoking while I was watching him. I believe strongly that this is because he was not checking the room for smoke at all, but instead is serially invading the privacy of any tenant he doesn't like when he thinks they are gone. This guy should be fired, so I'll write budget hotels and tell them what happened. read more

as you can imagine from the motel's name; if it's a luxury experience you're looking for, you won't find it here. But if you are looking for a good room for a budget price....this is it! First of all ; it's cute; it has a "california trailer court" vibe from the outside. Freshly painted, it is inviting, with a parking place just feet from the door so i could unload easily. The price is the lowest i could find in the area, a nearby so called "budget" chain had a room for twice the price i paid at Budget (i paid $110/night), next cheapest in the neighborhood was 150$. The have all the amenities i needed for my 3 night stay; iron and ironing board, internet that was free (and actually of decent speed).CORRECTION; INTERNET WAS FREE, BUT SLOWED DOWN TO A SNAILS PACE ONCE MORE PEOPLE CHECKED IN.. Mini fridge, microwave, tv remote that actually works!, and a climate control system that i could operate easily. Easy access to sufficient extra outlets for all my electronics was more than i'm used to at much fancier places.. The motel both outside and in the room seemed very clean to me, and as to whether it was noisy or not i couldn't tell you because i slept through the night! It is my habit in motels close to the road to leave the bathrooom fan on as sort of white noise which i did here...worked great, and a good deadbolt helped me feel secure... I received quick, courteous service at all times, such that it's hard to imagine the creepy scene Julius W. described as happening here. Maybe the motel has changed hands, or maybe they've just done their best to respond to earlier bad reviews?? Can I give negative stars? This was the worst experience I've ever had traveling. The guy I interacted with appeared to own the place and was just appallingly rude. Refused to acknowledge me when I spoke or asked questions, simply nodding his head at everything I said without looking up. I asked multiple times if my pet was allowed in the hotel and he responded with the same nod, then quite literally sprinted at me across the parking lot red faced, threatening, and screaming at me when he saw me entering with my pup. It was rather terrifying. Even aside from that, my first stop in the room to drop off a suitcase revealed a dirty, disheveled space. After a significant amount of effort I was able to finagle a refund given begrudgingly and then headed 10 minutes up the road to a Days Inn that was lovely, clean, welcoming, and in the same price range. I have to say this is a wonderful place to stay. I have been staying here for 10 months now. I work here in the area, stay here during the week and go home. When I come back they have the same room all ready for me. The management is awesome. I do have to thank the house keeper for making my bed everyday and keeping my room so clean. Several times I have brought my daughters and grand kids to stay for the week with me and they have been so accommodating to them. Even this summer when my 1 year old grand daughter came to stay they played with her and made it feel like home. The rose garden here in the summer is beautiful. When I needed a place to stay for a few nights I chose Budget Motel because it was the cheapest option in the area by a significant margin. In contrast with some of the other reviews on this site, my experience at Budget Motel was positive overall. The bedding and linens seemed clean, the place was quiet, and my interactions with the staff were cordial. I also appreciated the protected parking spots and the close proximity to downtown Mountain View. I gave Budget Motel four stars based on its performance relative to other cheap motels. I subtracted one star because there was a bit of a urine-y smell in the bathroom and some of the linens were due for replacement. I doubt that you'll find a better deal in the area :) read more

My Dad was life-flighted into te hospital in Mountain View from Nevada unexpectedly. I booked a room at another hotel, but only two nights were available. When my time was up, the only room available was at the Budget Motel (a place I would usually avoid based on the name alone). When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised with a retro-motel complete with flowers and little garages separating the units. My room was clean, quiet and had a full-size bathtub, along with a microwave and a refrigerator. Bob and Bella were very helpful with the duration of my reservation due to uncertain release times for my Dad. The room I had at the Budget Motel was about a third the cost of the prior hotel and smelled and felt better, too. Do not be afraid of the Budget Motel. It is a charming place with clean quiet rooms and cute little garages to keep your car out of the elements. read more

Our daughter had reservations and called at 4:30 to let them know they were held up at a meeting and would not be checking in until 8 pm.
