Hour+ line at Budget. Ridiculous!!! No lines at Enterprise, Alamo, & National. Don't use Budget!!

Flew into Minneapolis Friday and rented a car through here. Take note that you will be in a long line for a very long time. Budget and Avis share the same people, so on a holiday weekend they only had two people working. Our guy did upgrade us from a Sentra to a Kia soul which was cool, but waiting in line for 30 minutes after 3 1/2 hour flight not cool. My friend says they also had a host of other charges added to her bill as well. She will have to call about that! Gas is only 2.59 a gallon here so that's a beautiful thing! Easy pick up and drop off though. read more

Arrived at Budget counter Terminal 1 at MSP on July 15 at 3:20pm with about 25-30 parties ahead of me and only 1 person at Budget counter. The Avis person was busy with Avis customers most the time so did not help with reducing the wait. We waited in line until 4:40pm until we reached the counter. Only one announcement was made by the counter person in the 80 minutes in line to tell us to scan a QR code to pre-check. No announcement was made that fastbreak customers could go to 5th floor to get their vehicles nor was there any signs directing fastbreak customers to the car pickup location on 5th floor. When we did arrive at the downstairs counter the person said we needed to get a ticket and get in line to choose a car vs going to the fastbreak counter on 5th floor to get a pre-assigned car. So we went up to 5th floor fastbreak counter and stood in line for another 30 min. We then got our Rav4 with a cracked windshield and dent in PAX door. When we got the car key we were told we were being emailed a receipt. No mention was made that a QR code was needed to exit the facility and that it was texted to me. Luckily there was a person at the gate who noted the car defects and helped me download the QR code to exit the facility. Hertz had a line but staffed with 2 persons so the line moved quicker, all other counters were empty. Last time I'm using Budget. read more

I am extremely upset! I returned my car on time at the airport and there was no attendant to check in the car. I went to the booth and indicated that I had returned the car and that there was no attendant. They said, just make sure to leave the keys in the car and that I was "all set". I see in my email this morning a receipt for more than $100 over what I was quoted. In looking at the receipt more closely, they charged me an extra day assuming I checked the car in this morning at 9:38am. My flight was scheduled to leave at 8:45pm on the 23rd, and I dropped the car off at 7:10 pm on the 23rd, and the flight did leave relatively on time on the evening of the 23rd. Apparently the system didn't check the car in until 9:38am on the 24th so I was charged an extra day. In addition, I had to drive the car with windows open and sunroof open all the time since it reeked of smoke. It was extremely unpleasant. Apparently, there was only 1 person working the garage during drop-off (gentleman in the booth - no one in the actual garage) which caused this inconvenient error. After reading other reviews, was it an inconvenient error or intentional charge. Suggest that BUDGET get their act together and make sure they have the staff on board for a better check-out and check-in process. The day of actual rental was also not very smooth as they assigned the same car to 2 people, so we had to deal with that on the 20th, as well as the car was pretty scratched up and there was no attendant at the exit booth to make sure the scratches were noted prior to departing the garage. I had to return to the garage and find the attendant to make the note. After reading some of these other reviews, I will need to keep checking my credit card and see if any other charges pop up. The customer service after to get them to take the extra day off my rental charge was not very pleasant either. The guy was arrogant and gave me one of these "we'll just have to take your word". He's offered the credit, but until I see it, I won't believe it. You guys have cctv cameras all over the place, you don't have to take my word, check your security cameras!! read more

They just sent us a bill for damages done!!! What!!! There was no damage done to our vehicle when we drove it!

Stopped in, and checked into the counter on level 3. No issues, a little slow (the lady next to the guy working my ticket did two customers in the time it took for him to do mine) but hey, everyone is new sometime. Went to wait for our car... and 20 minutes later, went back in and asked where it was. They apologized and someone went to check for the car, with my rental agreement in hand. Brought the car up, wet from a wash. Inside, stains on the car seats & doors (milk or white ice cream?), and the bumper all scratched up. And no rental agreement. Had to go back inside and get another printed. Now 45 minutes in... and finally drove out, and got another piece of paper to say I didn't do any of that damage. Three more minutes of my time... Left and didn't get charged for any damage, but definitely disappointed in the speed of service. Checking back in, at least, only took a minute. read more

Do not rent from this Budget or Avis. I reserved and prepaid for a car on Expedia for a friend and when he arrived onsite, they asked him a few questions and then gave him a car they recommended without letting him know that they will be charging him extra for the upgrade. I have called and talked to a Manager and she said that if your are not a member then they will try to practically sell/pressure you to get an upgrade without knowing that you have to pay for it. I've used other car rentals and if they give you a free upgrade, you get a free upgrade. The Manager did mention that you have to decline them multiple times before they actually give you the car you reserved and requested. After this, I will never go back to reserving any vehicle under Budget again. Go with Enterprise or Hertz since they don't give you this much problem. read more

Like others here. Wait was obscene. Over an hour with only one attendant most of the time. Another guy came to help but was taking avis customers before budget. These people would just walk up and jump in front of people who had been there over an hour. Crazy that this seems to be a chronic issue at this location but yet nothing is done to fix it. read more

What a joke. We traveled with family and had to return our car to the Budget terminal. After waiting for over 45 minutes with two people in front of us, it took another 20 minutes to check us out. All the while the line grew to over 10 deep. I'd imagine they probably had a wait time of over 2 hours. The car rental area was dead and Budget only had one person working. I assume they don't want to be in the business of car rentals. I'd avoid this shop and take your business elsewhere. read more

I am white and the manager is black at this site, and i apologize for being descriptive like that, but, this is the story. I asked at the counter why i needed to put a $250 deposit because my app said I was all paid for. I literally went to the desk to see where to go. After I asked the nice woman at the desk about the deposit, the man to the right (manager come to find out) said "this isn't Donald trumps country, this isn't your country and we don't need anymore white racism here": I said: "What are you talking about?, I'm asking about the deposit?" He then came over yelling at me that I was a racist and told the woman to cancel my "white" reservation, The woman thankfully did not and asked him to go away. He kept yelling at me as i stood just looking at him stunned. He kept yelling, "this isn't your white Donald trump country anymore!" - I simply said to him, get a grip on customer service, I never said anything about race. Never again. Budget will rip you off. Don't rent from them. Fastbreak member. Dropped off the car with a full tank of gas. Go receipt email. When I get to the terminal I check it. $125 fuel charge. I call. They said email receipt and we will refund you in 2 business days. Sent them a creen shot of my credit card site showing info. 2 days later get an email rejecting the receipt saying it has to be the original from gas station. Mind you all they had to do was call attendant and have him verify. They can also verify if the car was full when the next time the car is rented. Last time I use Budget. Pre-booked online for business, selected NO additional insurance and when my employee went to pick up the car they had Him "sign here" without telling him it was for extra insurance coverage. Extra charges of $500 and they say that's not their problem. Will never use them again! read more

Good - but it could be great. They just need to work on a few things. To be honest, I was a little disappointed that I didn't get a new Ford Taurus like advertised -- I got the "or similar" part of the fine print, a Chevy Impala. It's was fine, though it was an option-free base model. Also, their parking lot was so full, I needed someone to help make sure that I didn't hit any other cars when backing out of the space!! The representatives at the counter were very friendly, and offered me a variety of SUV upgrades, but I prefer cars. It did take a rather long time for them to work with each customer- next time, I'm using the FastBreak service. The parking garage is somewhat confusing - just know that Budget (and a couple other companies) are upstairs one level from all the rest of the rental cars. The rental car garage is easily accessed by an underground tram from the main terminal. While I was unimpressed by the quality of my experience, they were ridiculously cheap, and my week-long rental was somehow $35 cheaper than originally quoted to me!! (full-size car, 1 week = $230 with USAA discount). So for that, they get upgraded 1 star! read more

BEWARE! I Just got off the phone with Budget customer service. It was explained to me that Budget's practice is to subtly suggest upgrades to premium cars without explicitly telling consumers that they will be charged. Here is my experience: I arrived at MSP airport shortly after midnight last Tuesday. I was greeted by the person at the counter, and everything proceeded like it always does when you rent a car. The attendant asked me the following question, "Is a Ford Taurus OK?" I said yes and proceeded to initial and sign the electronic agreement. What I failed to notice in the fine print in my tired state was that Budget considers a Ford Taurus a "premium" vehicle (really, a Taurus!?!?) and had up-charged me. I noticed what I thought was the mistake today and called customer service who essentially said it was my mistake and explained that I should always specifically ask if I am being charged for a better vehicle than requested. As a frequent business traveler, I have been a loyal Budget customer for many years and have spent thousands of dollars with them. It is a shame that Budget is willing to lose my future business over $57.00. read more

I rented a car through a travel package with Orbitz. My Budget rental was pre-paid. Everything was normal, quick check in, gave them my CC "Just in case", took that car for a week, returned it on time. 4 days later their "Loss Prevention" department called me and left me a voicemail inquiring where my rental car was. I called them back and left message 3 times to inform them I returned the car when scheduled and have already returned to New York. No one every called me back so I thought they straightened it out. Turns out, they charged me an extra $273 claiming I didn't return the vehicle until Dec 29. I called their customer service line and when I explained that I was in New York on Dec 29 and I could not have returned the car when they said. The Budget Customer Rep basically said its my word against the locations (Which isn't answering their phone.) My mistake was believing the attendant when he printed out my return receipt and it couldn't be read. He said "If you want a receipt you can go into the office" I asked "Am I all checked in, is everything good?" in which he said "yes." I was running late for my flight so I never took the time to stand in line to get a copy of the return receipt. BIG MISTAKE. They charged me: $56 Time and Mileage $60 Misc Charges $22.92 Concession Recovery Fee $32.50 Customer Facility charge $30.00 Late Fee $24.91 14.2% Surcharge $60.32 Fuel Service (I RETURNED THE CAR WITH A FULL TANK!) I feel like Budget has stolen money. I want to file a police report. This is criminal. Either the Minneapolis Airport location doesn't have their act together, or one of their employees are taking rental cars out for a joy ride on the customer's dime. So I should have read the reviews. Please, please, please read these reviews. Do not, under any circumstances rent from Budget. Sneaky fee's, huge charges and terrible customer service. While trying to understand some of these huge fees I got hung up on by their corporate customer service folks. It's possible some of these are even legit fees but I'll never know because they hung up on me when I tried to figure it all out. While the guy behind the counter was super nice the general way this company functions is sneaky and they just bill you for all kinds of crap and hope you don't notice. This is a review specifically for this Budget at MSP airport. I got my deal through Priceline.com for $11 per day and had pre-paid before my visit. Check-in procedure was fairly efficient although I was tired from my flight. "Is a Prius okay for you?" the gentleman at the desk asked, to which I responded "that's fine" without any knowledge that this was not in the class of cars I had paid for. (I don't memorize which cars are in which class). Little did I know that he had found out a way to upgrade me without telling me so. Finding the car and driving off went fine. Car worked great for my days there. Upon returning to check-in the car, I was told by the check-in lady I had additional charges to pay since I had apparently been driving around an upgraded car I did not ask for. Since I was on a schedule to catch a flight, I ended up paying the fees, however was frustrated I didn't have time to go to the desk to dispute the charges. Checking in was otherwise a smooth process. 5 months later, I finally get around to calling Budget customer service to let them know about my experience. Even though I merely called to relate my story and convey that they should be very clear about explaining in an offered car is an "upgrade", the CSR (customer service rep) heard my story and immediately stated they would refund the extra charges. Case closed. Anyway, due to questionable upgrade practices I had to deal with and resultant frustration, they get 3 stars from me (offset by an otherwise smooth process). Props to the Budget CSR for resolving the issue 5 months later though! That being said, I would use Budget again, but would just be more vigilant during the check-in process. read more

I agree with the other reviews. They are slow, but the workers at the desk are always nice. This could be because I'm usually renting a car with my company, so maybe they treat people differently if they work for a company that prefers them. Here's the thing that is really disappointing about this budget. If you leave something in a rental car, you will not get it back. First of all, it took multiple phone calls to even get to a person to ask about lost and found, especially because I was calling on a Saturday. When I finally got a hold of someone, it's just clear that they do not hold on to people's things if they find it. My friend and I left her parking pass in the car. Who would steal a parking pass? I'm pretty sure it was just tossed. It is definitely on us for leaving it, but just know that if you left something, they are probably not going to have it. read more

Yes, I was fooled today by Budget car rental and got charged for an upgrade I didn't know about. They had asked "do you want a Dodge Charger?" and I said sure. At the end of our interaction, I asked why was there there a $70 discrepancy from my online confirmation and what the price in front of me was saying. The agent said the site (Costco travel) is off and what he has was correct. I asked how can that be and he said you can call Costco travel for any questions to why this might be off. Like an idiot, I just booked it in hopes I could get it figured out later. I had called Costco travel support and they said I was charged an upgrade fee. Dishonest service. When you return the car, nobody comes out to inspect it at the time you're there. They wait until you leave and then evaluate the car and add additional charges such as gas, since you're not there to defend it. Having fill the tank be on the phone line 6 miles from the airport they charge me an additional $80 stating that I did not fill the tank. That's BS and I'm going through paperwork to fight them. A Suspicion is that employers get additional bonuses for they enhanced charges they place on your vehicle. read more

We had a reservation. Most ridiculous line ever. Over 30 people in line on a random Friday in September and it took over an hour to get to the desk and then another 45 minutes standing around in the garage for them to actually get us a vehicle. The staff were unhelpful and didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. All in all, it took almost 2 hours to get a vehicle we reserved 5 days in advance. Service at Budget was so lousy, I had them delete my Fastbreak account and vowed to NEVER use them again. The initial problem was a meaningless receipt I was given after returning the car. It was incomplete, incorrect and I was unable to use it for expenses. Seems like an easy issue to correct, right? I spent 2 hours on the phone with Budget customer care. I repeated my request for a complete and detailed receipt at least 15 times. I was emailed the exact same incomplete and meaningless receipt 6 times. I was passed to 3 different agents and ended up with the same first incompetent agent who insisted on collecting all of my personal info "for security purposes" AGAIN. Budget is undoubtedly one of the worst companies out there. There are just too many other options to put up with them. read more

Awful. Agent asleep when I arrived. Someone had to go get him. I informed him I was there to pick up my reservation. He said there wasn't one in the system. I had reserved an economy car. He drew up a second reservation without saying anything fir a large SUV. When I went out and saw the car assigned, I went back into the agent to request an economy car. He said nothing was available. 4 economy cars were parked around the car assigned to me. He said my only option was to come back in 2 hours to see if anything smaller comes available. When I arrived home I received an email reminding me of my original reservation that was still open and in the system. I needed to drive back. I needed to call customer service. I needed to enter a complaint. From the sleeping agents thru to the mostly automated customer service line - no help. I will never rent from them again. Waited over an hour due to an under staffed counter. Returned the car in Wisconsin and was charged for an extra day because the counter wasn't staffed and I had to leave the keys in a drop box. Finally got a refund as a "one time courtesy". How am I supposed to get a return slip to prove what time I returned the car if they can't even staff the counter with someone to give me a receipt!
