It was by far the worst experience that I've ever had with any rental agencies. I rent all the time for business purposes or leisure personal use as well and I never been treated this way, unprofessionally and with attitude by the manager of Budget Edmonton Downtown location, Maria Santos. I cam to rent twice at this location and was given a hard time to have my rental and when the vehicle class I booked for was not available Maria (manager at the branch) attempted to downgrade me at first instead of giving me something similar or upgrade me. After fighting my case she finally gave me a decent car but was still nonchalant about it and bother line verbally aggressive. I don't know if it is something related to my age as a young entrepreneur or my racial profile. But in any cases no one should suffer this kind of verbal abuse. On December 31, 2020 I rented a car at the same location and I was being helped by the same agent, Maria Santos, claiming to be the branch manager and the only person working at this location as well. Once I walked in she did not again welcome me or greeted me and just ask to give my id and credit card in a nonchalant way and when I say goodbye and best wishes for the upcoming year she did not bother to say thanks at least or return me the warm wishes for 2021. On Wednesday January 20, 2021, I returned the car I rented and after the inspection, Maria discovered only a small little chip that I did not even see not noticeable smaller than a ballpoint pen which I was told that if it was not a crack or bigger than a golf ball it was not chargeable. Then after I stated my right she acknowledged that she knew that but at her discretion she wanted to fill a damage report and state that it was minor scratch or chip on the top right of the windshield. And after she was trying to force me to sign the paper which I respectfully declined. After closing my files she asked me my whereabouts with the car where did I drove for. I told her I drove in Canada I did not go outside of the country as mention per my contract. Then she told me I drove a lot and she will have to charge me extra over 3000km. I told her that it is not the case because I signed up for unlimited mileage on my contract unless I go over 28 days of rental with the car which was not my case because I rented it from December 31 2020 to January 20 2020. FIRST AND LAST TIME I EVER RENT FROM BUDGET! I flew from BC to Edmonton airport to pick up a car rental. As I was placing my driver's licence and credit card on the counter, the employee said "we don't take prepaid credit cards". I explained that my credit card is not a prepaid credit card. The employee was convinced it was, and said she couldn't help me. She then said "we don't accept visa debits for deposits". I explained that my credit card is not a debit card, it's a legitimate credit card. She was rude and completely unwilling to help me. I was so upset, I walked away from the counter. I called Budget customer service. I explained that my credit card was not being accepted at this certain location. He apologized and said that it's possible to take a cash deposit, but normally that needs to be confirmed with the pickup location 72 hours before pickup time. I should have kept this representative on the phone and returned to the counter, but I hung up. I went back to the counter and explained that I had just called Budget customer care. I explained that he said I could potentially rent a car with a cash deposit, since this location is unwilling to take my credit card. This employee's level of ignorance escalated. She said that in her 23 years of working with Budget, she has never accepted a cash deposit. She said that she couldn't help me. She then turned around and walked away into the back room. I had to book a last minute flight to Calgary to meet up with a friend in case this situation were to happen again (they would help me rent a vehicle). I booked another rental through a different rental company in Calgary. They accepted my credit card without any issues. I have rented several vehicles in the past with my credit card with NO issues whatsoever. With all of this extra travel and time wasted, I almost missed my mother's funeral. read more

They do not answer their phone at the location, got transferred to a call center in the U.S. asked for winter tires, and the damage/loss insurance, and paid up front because that was cheaper. When we got to the airport all of a sudden it was an extra $20 a day for winter tires which was never mentioned on the phone, and more money for the insurance.... When we returned the car 3 days later we were first in line, but had to wait 30 plus minutes because they had to serve there special members first!!! There should be seperate lines for this, not just ignoring customers, how in the hell do they expect to have new customers become special members of they get treated like this. When I complained the lady at the front had a hissy fit and asked for her male co worker to "deal with me". So not impressed with this company at all. And will never fall with them again. read more

I called Budget and made a reservation to rent a car for a vacation that my husband and I are taking to Calgary. I called the local number and explained to the woman on the phone (Diane) that though I would be the sole driver (my husband only has a permit), the credit card is in my husbands name. Diane and I even had a laugh at my hubands expense. Diane: Why doesn't your husband have a license? Me: He's too scared. Diane: Oh yeah, sometimes the women have to be the brave ones. Both of us: LOL So, it was definitely known that my husband does not have a license. She even wrote a note on our contract in regards to that, and reassured me time and again that it would be "No problem" because we are married. We get to Budget to pick up the car, they ask for my husband's license because he is the primary contract holder. Then they refuse to rent us the car. It's their policy that the primary driver and the credit card holder need to have the same name. I explained my conversation with Diane and they read the notes on the contract, and pretty much told me tough shit (I paraphrased). I guess what happened is that even though I called the local number, I got transferred to international help line or something, and Diane didn't know what she was talking about. However, as I was constantly assured that it would be absolutely no problem, and Diane had left notes on our contract, they should have honored that contract. Then they could talk to Diane and let her know not to do it again. But it is NOT our fault that this happened, we asked specific questions, we did what we were supposed to... yet our vacation is ruined and we have to take a bus to Calgary. The correct way to handle this situation would have been to say "Our policy is not to rent a car unless the driver and credit card holder are the same person, HOWEVER because you were told on the phone that it wouldn't be an issue, we can make a one time exception and honor your contract for the weekend." read more

I used to come here all the time before I got a car. It was a short walk from my place so it was really convenient for me. The staff was always friendly and I never had any problems with the vehicles. During the winter they had a special for about $10 a day for weekends so that was really nice. Summer was a different story when it was about $35. The problem I had was that the final cost was always a few dollars more than the quoted price at the time of booking. I asked about it once and they said it's just another tax per each day I rent the car. However, I've been to other Budgets and other car rental companies and the price I pay has always exactly matched the online quote. I also got a speeding ticket in one of their vehicles and they charged me an outrageous 'admin' fee to pay the ticket on my behalf, then just charged my credit card the ticket plus the admin fee. Located between two LRT stations (Corona and Bay), it's easy to get to. Prices are reasonable around $35 a day for an economy car rental and they offer an after hours drop service, which is particularly handy if you don't want the hassle of battling rush hour traffic coming back first thing the next morning just to drop off the car and keys. When I arrived (15 min prior to my scheduled time) to pick up a mid-sized sedan I had reserved and pre-payed for online a week prior, I was told they had no cars - only a mini van left: "would that do?" "No, that's not what I ordered." "We can't guarantee the type of vehicle" "A mini van is not the class of vehicle I reserved and pre-payed for." An hour later someone from another location delivered a proper vehicle. I was offered no reduction or compensation for the inconvenience. I rented from then regularly when working downtown and it was always a good experience. The staff were friendly and willing to accommodate requests. I had a family emergency yesterday and needed a vehicle immediately, I called the downtown location and the lady told me to come down right away. They had a very nice vehicle ready for me, I was in and out in five minutes. The lady was very helpful and friendly. If ever I need a car rental I will use them again. I use to rent from budget all the time, but recently they have been bought out by Avis and their rules have changed. You can no longer do after hours return of your vehicle and they only have limited hours for return on weekends. Meaning that if I rent a car Friday afternoon I have to return it before the 24 hour rental period or I get changed for another day! Something they didn't explain to me until I went through the whole process of both booking it on the phone and doing all the paperwork at the store. Booking with Budget is no longer worth it unless you are doing business hours drop off. read more

I have dealt with Budget on many occasions. To be honest I don't know how they compare with other car rental outfits because I have used them exclusively. However as of now, this will change and I will never use them again. I rented a Yukon 4x4 from the Budget in the Edmonton Airport at the beginning of August. It was for business use and I was thinking about flying out of Calgary instead of Edmonton so I asked what the drop off charges would be if I dropped it off at another location. $25 was the answer. Seemed reasonable and i gave it no more thought. One of my employees dropped the car off in Calgary at the end of the week and I got the bill a few weeks later.... a $450 drop off charge! I thought it was a mistake so I phoned the Edmonton Budget agency and was told that $25 was the charge for a local drop off, $450 was for out of town. I was amazed, why didn't you tell me? I could have flown out of either location. They said their was nothing they could do and it wasn't his fault that one of the other employees failed to answer my question fully. I never signed any slip or keyed any PIN for the $450 so I phone Visa to register a dispute. To my surprise they told me that they wouldn't get involved with disputes with a car rental agency, even if they don't have a signed or PINed receipt. Surprised, all I can do is burn my Budget RapidRez card, take my business other places and warn other consumers. read more

So Budget started Renting cars in dealership and Had a terrible service and ended up with a bill of 350$ because they employee Gaagaandeep Decided damage that i point out isnt important enough to put on paperwork and i get stuck with the bill. Terrible service at the Edmonton location. They don't even answer there phone. Budget 1800 service can't help so they give you Edmonton Airport branch direct number .
