Ran out of time before the trip didn't have a chance to make a car reservation. Walked from the gate getting off the plane to the rental car counter. I knew I wanted to go to budget. Had a good experience on my last trip with Budget. Walked right up to the counter talked to the service person about my situation told her what I was looking for. In a vehicle Gave her my license and credit card. And in less than 15 minutes I had the car I wanted and we are out the door. It was a spectacular experience for me. I had opted to rent from the Milpitas location of Budget Car Rental despite their poor rating on Yelp because it was within walking distance of the hotel I was staying at. Not their fault, but it turns out that their neighborhood is not made for walking. There were no sidewalks on the Montague Expressway, so I basically took my life in my hands making my way over there on foot. Although I was told over the phone that it would take but 5 minutes to get me my car and for me to later return it as well, as this was a one man shop, it didn't quite turn out that way. I overlapped with a fellow returning a car ahead of me and another guy also returning a car who had unfortunately for him arrived after me. For I was a car rental newbie, and I was not about to be a quick turnaround. I had reserved an economy sized car for the better gas mileage, but was initially told that there were no cars of that group on the lot right now. That was discouraging... but the Budget employee headed out with a few keys in hand and then presented me with a Toyota Prius. I'm not a car person, so I didn't realize at the time that this was an upgrade till I checked the Budget website just now and found the Toyota Prius Hybrid priced at $87.99 vs Economy's current rate of $33.99. I think if I was more low key that the Budget guy would have left me right then. But I've never driven a Prius before, so I asked for an introduction to my new vehicle. And good thing I did! The Prius has a keyless entry system and ignition of which I have had absolutely no previous experience! See? Poor customer after me... Unfortunately the car was dirty - in other words the windows were tough to see through. For the front, I used the windshield wipers to fix that with a few sprays. The side mirrors I wiped with a sheet of tissue. The back window had to wait till I filled up on gas at a station and had the chance to do some manual labor with a squeegee. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I presume that perhaps the car was just returned that morn. My pick up time was scheduled for 8:15am. I got there at 8:20am. I was settled with my car by 8:35am. Not too bad. Now the Prius portion of my review. In short, I didn't like it. Sure, it is "green" and had terrific mileage. I imagine I drove over 300 miles over a two day rental period, but I only had to buy less than 7 gallons to refill the tank before returning it. It also had really good brakes. So, why didn't I like it? 1) The rear window was too narrow for a good clear view. 2) As I was driving down a winding road I had to duck to see the portion of the road that was blocked by the rear view mirror. 3) The Prius had a wider blind spot than I'm used to on my own car. 4) It also lacked a get up and go - it had super-slow acceleration - so I had to seek a wide berth when entering a street or highway. Since I didn't actually have to stick a key into the ignition to turn my vehicle on, I wish that the two "keys" weren't permanently attached to each other. Sure I understand that they do things this way so that we can't lose the spare key, but I would have loved to leave one in my purse and carry the other in my pocket. Instead I had this huge lump in my pocket till I transferred it over to my purse by the end of day 1. I was scheduled to return the Prius at 8:15am, and arrived on time only to find the Budget office located off of the Olson Brothers Auto Body Shop to be unmanned. Sean finally arrived at 8:25am, though I was getting nervous since my ride was going to be there at any time and we had a schedule to keep. According to one of the men at the body shop, the Budget guy is usually in by 8:30am, but I think he was stuck in traffic that day. (Hey, this is California, and traffic is its middle name!) I opted for a variety of insurance since my car at home was going to be out and about at the same time and so paid under $125 for two days rental; it would have been under $65 for just the car and tax. Hours: Sun 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM Mon - Fri 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sat 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM To avoid issues with pick up and drop off timing at this location, it might be best to set your reservation for 8:30am or later and to plan for the hand off to take 15-30 min. read more

Its not my problem. Well I will make sure your corporate office knows that you should be fired because you are ruining budget business. Just rented again, staying in area with family. We always get a newer car and less expensive than airport, with all those annoying fees. But, please do not expect the same level of customer service. You are renting from an office in a car repair shop. Personally, I do not care, only spend a few minutes there. For me, it is champaign taste, beer budget. read more

Worst experience ever!! I reserved a truck for moving and got notified 40 minutes before my pickup time that there are no trucks. I am not going to trust budget ever again. I absolutely needed a truck the same day and I didn't like the fact that they let you reserve a truck but simply tell you "sorry no trucks are available". I even called customer care, spoke with 3 people but even then couldn't find the truck I needed. read more

Good off the airport place for local car rental, bring a credit card not a debit card, they will ask for a credit card to avoid checking your credit, which was nice to hear, and the deposit is mandatory on credit, which takes 5 days to fall off, they take the rental out of your deposit now. Car selection is limited to what they have, or what they want to give to you. Hours are limited to pickup and dropoff, but you call them, leave a message, they don't answer the phone much. This is hidden and thank goodness for online applications to direct you here. This is not walking to anything. The guy checking you out or in was a little rude, but I was cocky to avoid his rude attitude, got my car, then he was nice once he realized he could not affect me. Why act that way if you are in the business of renting cars and dealing with people, deal with us accordingly. Otherwise, clean cars, fast service, I was in and out within 15 minutes. If you don't want the hustle and bustle of the Airport, this may be the best alternative to heading to San Jose International and waiting 15-20 minutes to get to the counter then another 5-10 minutes of them advising of options, then another 5-10 minutes to check out, and 5-10 to leave the facility after inspection. I was in, contract on file, reservation was pre-made, car brought up, inspection done, 10 minutes total. Your choice. read more

Very disappointed in Budget's Customer service. Went into their office and asked if deals were better online. I was told online so, I went online to make a reservation for a week rental car. Found the great rate if I paid now, so I clicked that. As I'm trying to pay, it's asking me for some code. Not a coupon. Nothing worked so I downloaded the app on my phone. Nope, same problem so I gave up. Tried today, but the rate jumped 70 bucks. Ridiculous, so I called up their national customer service line and explained what was going on. They pretty much told me too bad so sad. Won't be doing business with them ever. read more

If I can give zero star I would!!! Our reservation pick up time was 8 am. We got there at 805 am and to your surprise there was nobody there!! We waited over 45 minutes before he arrived. When he did arrive he didn't even have the car we had reservation for. We had reservation for a full size car but he only had watch looked like an compact!! Stay away from this place!! read more
