The brisket was great. Sliced very thin and had good flavor. I especially enjoyed the blazin bbq sauce. It was actually pretty spicy. Most bbq places that have a "spicy" bbq sauce usually aren't as spicy, but I enjoyed the kick! The sides were piping hot. Usually that's half the battle, getting hot food. Great stop! After discovering there was no sauce, we tried to choke down the dry, cold brisket without it. The smell of smoked barbecue outside is fantastic but that's as far as it goes. I ordered the brisket dinner plate with two sides; hush puppies and fries. The fries were cold and the hush puppies were a little gooey and bland. I didn't even finish one of them. The best part of the meal was the smoky flavor of the brisket. Unfortunately, the ratio of fat to meat wasn't in my favor. If seemed like there was more fat than meat and the meat that was there was tough. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich and he said it was pretty good and just the right size, although a little dry. He thought the potato salad was excellent. It wasn't my favorite. We came here for a wedding and decided to go here for some BBQ. On line it had a 4 star rating. Sadly the food was not very good at all, the service was not good as well. The young girl that was taking our order put her hands all over our cups and you could see that her hands were dirty. When we got our food it was 8:30 and a lady was already sweeping and had basically shut the place down except for 6 booths. The ice maker did not work and we had to ask for ice in our cups. When I was getting our drinks the fountain drink machine had clearly not been cleaned in a long time because there was a lot of crude hanging on it. In my opinion I have no idea how they are open. This place is not even clean, also the girl did not have her hair up. The food just tasted like it came from Sams. Very big disappointment. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Like football. The west can't figure out BBQ. They figure out dope and coffee and the 29 hour mooch off the government work week. I saw no fewer than 10 restaurants attempt to sell bbq out west and fail. They simply didn't have the $8 pulled pork sammich. They tried to sell $18 brisket and $28 rib plates to skinny jean wearing hipsters. They don't have a bbq culture out west. So for it to succeed it need an affordable option. Of course...just like video killed the radio star the rona kilt any chance of restaurants (family owned) succeeding. You see Covid only hit churches and family owned business. Stopped at this place on a whim, about 4 hours into our drive back home from vacation. Everything on their menu seemed reasonably priced. We both got the pulled pork dinner plate, which came with hushpuppies + 2 sides -- all for less than $8 bucks (Not too shabby). Food was great! The pulled pork was super tender & had a nice smoky flavor. All the sides were good. Will definitely have to stop by again next we come through the area! Buddy's is by no means the best BBQ I've ever had, but it is a delicious alternative to mcdonalds or hardees if you are staying in the area. They have really good pulled pork and chicken. The ribs were cooked fresh but I've never been a fan of pork ribs so they left a little for me to be desired. The hushpuppies were a little drier than I prefer but I still ate them all so what does that say. I don't think they had a bad side dish from what we tasted and the food came out hot and quick. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and very helpful to noobies to Buddy's and I appreciated her excitement for their food. Their normal bbq sauce was mostly sweet while their hot sauce reminded me of a carolina vinegar sauce. Overall, Buddy's is a great stop for lunch if you are looking to pass on a standard fair fast food chain on your drive down route 40 thru kingston. read more

When you want something different it's a good choice, but not the best BBQ in the south or by a Buddy's by any stretch. Other Buddy's seem to taste better and feel more authentic this one just feels like a ready made BBQ instead of a place that actually takes the time to smoke their stuff every day. Buddy's BBQ in Kingston is just as good as most of the double in price BBQ joints in East Tennessee. The Chicken Wings with Mild sauce, beans and tater salad was a filling lunch. Four meaty wings were $3.29....a good lunch portion. Beans and tater salad was OK....but they are heavy handed on the mustard in the salad. I like "white" tater salad. The pork plate with fries and slaw are great....and I love their slaw. Nice light hush puppies too. Usually they have a server bring around extra hush puppies, but not today. read more

Being frin North Carolina, I have high expectations for BBQ, but Buddy's was pretty good. First, I was pleasantly surprised it was chopped and not pulled. They put toi much sauce on top of it so I would say put it on the side next time and add it myself. Hushpuppies were very good. A BBQ plate dinner was jut 6.49 and you got a lot of pork, 4 hushpuppies, slaw(just ok) and french fries. One last thing is was a little too smokey tasting, but that is alright. I'll start with the good things.. clean restaurant, good prices, food came out fast and I enjoyed the potato salad. The baked beans and green beans weren't bad. The actual barbecue left A LOT to be desired. The pulled pork was very fatty and flavorless, but that could be because they put such a minuscule amount of pork on the giant and stale bun that I could barely taste it. Seriously, if you're going to short the portions of pork for your sandwiches, fine I understand you're trying to save money. Just get a smaller bun for goodness sake. The pork did not cover half the bun. I should have taken photos. The "hot" barbecue sauce basically tasted like Texas Pete. And the other sauce didn't have much flavor either. Someone else in our party tasted the beef brisket and did not enjoy it at all. Not sure why this has almost 5 stars. I guess because there's nothing else in the town. read more
