I pulled over because I haven't had a decent bagel in years as I've been living on the west coast and Midwest. The place could use a little TLC - but I wasn't there for the aesthetics - I was here for the bagels. I ordered an Everything Bagel w Cream Cheese and was very happy. LOADS of cream cheese! Delicious. The service was also very good. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this place. It's got great air conditioning, restrooms and plenty of parking. They have this "policy" for the drive thru that you have to get a certain number of sandwiches to pick up at the drive thru even if you call ahead. A few yrs ago you had to order 3 sandwiches. Then, it went to 4, and today the girl said it's FIVE! I told her it was 3 at one time (she told me it never was 3.)She was probably a child when it was 3 so I told her it definitely was 3 at one time. In any case, I said it's 5 now? First appearances... not the best. Worn out looking, messy, oddly placed bins of things I didn't quite understand on each end of the counters. Placed my order at one end, was given a slip to hand to the cashier , who really couldn't read said slip and asked me what I ordered, with no customer service skills. My sandwich was okay tasting, at least the first half which had all three ingredients. The second half, almost no egg, barely a drop of cheese. Tasted like I had ordered pork roll on a bagel. Definitely not what I wanted. There was nothing so impressive that I would go out of my way to return. As a bagel fanatic, I am willing to put some miles on for a good bagel place. Been frequenting Buddies for many years. Today I once again went through the drive-thru with my son, like any time before. I was greeted at the order menu, and asked for the daily soup and a dozen croissants. No response. After a pause, they repeated the greeting. I asked if they could hear me. No response. Then a different voice comes on saying they cannot hear me, so naturally I speak louder. I ask for the daily soup (they're out) and place the rest of my order. Though I'm louder so they can hear me, I'm not screaming or rude. I remain polite saying "please" and "thank you". As I get to the window, I put on my mask. Then put my window down and say " I guess you couldn't hear me over the rain and my vehicle." They still didn't hear me. I just waved my hand, dismissively, and said "that's okay" as I pay. They return my card, then hand me my bag. I thank them again and slowly pull forward. As my son double checks we find a dozen crushed croissants. All because they couldn't hear me and I spoke up? I absolutely love this bagle place. I Get the best pumpernickel bagels I ever had there. No one makes them like they do. The cream cheese is really good. The food at Buddie's is always great. The service used to be, too, but it's been slipping badly recently. I called in an order today with 5 items, which is their minimum order for phone-in orders. I didn't order anything unusual or special, everything was standard stuff right off the menu. On the phone, I had to repeat the order three or four times, even though I placed it at the pace set by the person who answered. Each time, something was wrong. Five minutes after we hung up, they called back to confirm the order. It was still wrong. After going through the order again, the person on the phone repeated it correctly, and we hung up. Just to be clear, at no point did anyone get frustrated or angry, everything was nice and polite. When I picked the order up about half an hour later, I immediately understood why I had so many issues placing it. The music was very loud and the people behind the counter were goofing around with each other. The floor had lots of food and debris all over it. After waiting to be noticed for four or five minutes, I received my order, paid for it, and left. Again, no attitude from either side, everything was nice and pleasant. Arriving at home, we discovered that, after multiple attempts to place our order and two phone calls, an item was missing. I get it that we no longer live in an era when employees are expected to jump through hoops for unappreciative customers all day long. I'm happy about that, because I'm also an employee somewhere. On the other hand, the service I received today was acceptable, and I'll be voting with my fingertips when I dial another number to place my order next time. A tip for management: Should you read my review, count to ten and take a look in the mirror before blaming the employees who work the counter and fill orders. It's YOUR business to run, and the experience I had today was the result of YOUR management, which I saw very little of today. read more

Bagel sandwiches are the BEST around. The drive through is fast. The Pickles are the favorite of mine. True but fast story. About 4 years ago it was a summer day. No lie , it was over 95* degrees and sunny. My son wanted the pickles from Buddies. My wife had our car at work, so I walked from Downtown Hazleton by AA Autoparts to Buddies for their pickles. They sell them by the pound for a couple bucks. After a few hours of my day shot walking across town, I get home to a kid that won't get off his D*mn X-Box for one second to eat the pickles. He said put them in the fridge because they are probably hot from the walk. I wanted to just eat them all myself but I figured they were probably a little hot. So they ended up in fridge for a few days (1/2 ended up eaten) and that was how the rest of my night went. read more

Me and my wife do quite a bit of road tripping, and we've always used yelp for dependable, quality ratings on local eatery's. So when we saw this place come in with a great score as we were passing through we had to stop in (Im a big morning bagel guy). I am astounded that they received the score that they did, if i could rate this place a zero i would. The bagel was doughy with really no substance to it, asked for it toasted came out cold and to top it off they up charged me for a Jalapeño bagel by two Dollars!? My bagel sandwich of choice is a hot ham and cheese with egg, its a simple comfort food that i legitimately have had hundreds of around the country. This is hands down the absolute worst I've ever had! It looked like they took half a piece of ham and just chopped it up and slapped it on (See attached photo). Now if all of that wasn't bad enough, that bagel racked in over 10$! If this was a life changing experience i wouldn't mind, but for that level of quality and quantity its absurd. I wouldn't have been upset if this was a 4$ sandwich but the fact it was over 10$ caused me to make this review to save others from the same mistake. When I raised my issues at the counter they just said we'll print out the receipt so i can see how it was itemized...what? The claimed it as a steak sandwich which validated the cost....how is that a steak sandwich? Honestly, its a local spot and i believe that anyone that has rated this more then 1-2 stars has never ventured out of their local town to eat at a quality bagel establishment. read more

Even by New York standards, the bagels here are still a 4 out of 5! the bagels have that oh so familiar crusty outside with a soft chewy inside.
