If you happen to visit any Toby's Estate branch, then you're probably acquainted with the affectionately named treat, "Bucky's." A love child between a brownie and a chocolate fudge cake, this tweener has waltzed its way into the hearts of dessert fans, and now, it finally has its own place to call home. Bucky's Counter is tucked snugly along the food street capital of Paranaque, Aguirre Avenue.
What I tried:
Blonde Buckygatto P200
This is a half serving of a half-baked Bucky (think half-baked cookie dough and you'll get the picture) topped with a Carmen's Best Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream, sprinkled with grahams and served with a side of espresso from Yardstick Coffee. A surprisingly well thought-out concoction, this had all the elements that I never thought I'd look for for in a dessert. The bitterness and the acidity of the hot espresso balanced out the sweetness and creaminess of the ice cream, while the graham bits provided the much needed crunch to the chewy texture of the half-baked Bucky. The experience was a symphony of textures and flavors to say the least. The price might seem a bit hefty, but they sure as hell didn't skimp on the quality of the ingredients. The Orignal Buckygatto was also available (original Bucky's drizzled with caramel syrup sans the graham bits), but I opted for the hipster version instead, for reasons. My only gripe is that I wish they could have had a larger serving of the Bucky as this left me wanting more. Which eventually led me to get...
RIP Bucky P120
Bucky sandwiched between a layer of Rice Crispies and Peanut Butter, topped with a drizzle of caramel sauce. Need I say more?
Bottom-line:
The shop just opened last February 2015, and their menu seems to constantly expand and improve over time. There is even an option to "Waffle style" your Bucky for P150, which I'll definitely comply on my next visit. If your friends happen to drag your ass to a food trip along Aguirre Avenue or if you're just looking for a new third wave coffee shop, then you should definitely hit this place up. Just be prepared to shell out money for the toll if you're coming from somewhere but the South. read more
