Last I was here, browsers could use terminals (they're probably using eMacs now) to perform searches. After you find what you want, just do the footwork to actually get your books. There's a good selection of fantasy and science fiction novels to borrow and you can even buy their overflow books in the front for cheap. The library is open Monday through Saturday, and have book discussion groups periodically. Recommended if you want to get your reading on!

So Branson the 15 yr old chihuahua is a therapy dog and he makes people feel calm and at ease. Reading to Dogs event! So folks feel less stress. People read to him and he enjoyed it. Sweet and gentle doggy. I got a kick out of it. Such a charming town and library. I'm so glad they welcome folks to enjoy such an event. Such a simple joy. Thanks to the Branson and his owner for the work they do! They made reading books extra fun. Right! What happens- Just bring a book to the community room and read. It has moved several times through the years, and was even closed for a short time due to the "difficulties," otherwise known as the Revolutionary War. Today, it is housed in a small brick building on Centre Street, a few blocks up from State Street and the center of commercial Newtown Borough. It is a nonprofit, membership organization ($20. per individual), servicing the needs of bibliophiles in the community. Some of the books in the collection are older than the library, as are the famous William Penn chairs. It is another one of those well preserved and well intentioned institutions that help us understand the meaning of creating a new country and culture, and honoring that heritage daily. It is a great place to visit, or peruse the stacks. The children's' section is warm and inviting. The volunteer staff, knowledgeable and welcoming. Simply an amazing living history we can all feel, as we imagine how it was to live and learn in the eighteenth century in the formative years of our nation.

It's a very special Library…read more Besides the absolutely beautiful architecture. Please tour the different rooms and see the Nakashima furniture on the main floor. Downstairs you can see the children's area. On the stairwell going down, please admire the artwork!! The staff was very friendly and answering all my goofy questions!! They have photos on the wall by the Nakashima table one of the photos of Carl Samberg, Pearl buck & james Michener. I really enjoyed having a self tour and finding out the different activities. I've been so eager to visit and have driven by countless times. She was wonderful & showed me around. The children's area was adorable and very thoughtful. This is a library that really cares and being a person who loves books & the library I know we will be here quite frequently. For parking there is street or you can park at the high school & walk.

Y'all, this place has Charles Dickens' actual writing desk…read more We entered this beautiful building, mouths agape in wonder. One of the security guards told us to head straight up to the 3rd floor -- he compared it to a small museum full of rare things. Intrigued, we took his advice. So glad we did! We happened upon the free guided tour of the Rare Book Department, and spent the next hour happily being shown treasures such as books with special bindings, books with gold leaf, the taxidermied raven named Grip which inspired Edgar Allan Poe's famous work, and yes, Charles Dickens' desk, complete with his scratched-on initials. Later, we came across a giant shoe in one of the reading rooms. This place is fantastically magical. Love the Free Library of Philadelphia.
