Tucked away in the back of Carousel Village at Indian Walk off of Durham Road, these barns-turned-gyms are spacious, extremely clean, and full of quality machines/fitness gear. Behind the buildings, there is a running trail that takes you around the Christmas Tree lot and through a mini-zoo. Seriously. Emus, goats, donkeys, llamas, miniature horses... it makes running fun and they're just so CUTE. There is a huge obstacle course out back behind the gym as well. I can't wait to try it out this summer. The CrossFit coaches (who, I believe, also do personal training) are so knowledgeable about everything. I'm such a weak little shit, but they're patient with me, modify some of the workouts when necessary, and they take the time to make sure that everyone is using good form to prevent injury. They push us, cheer us on, and after two months of going 2-5 times per week, I really feel so much stronger. Transcend also has spinning classes, boot camp, MMA, boxing, and kids' fitness camp/classes. They're just getting started having yoga as well. Note: I believe a regular gym membership that DOESN'T include CrossFit is fairly cheaper than $89/month. Students are $40/month, but I don't know what that includes. This gym has everything, and I've never felt so confident about spending a monthly fee on something. (I'm always suspicious of reviews on Yelp if they sound like they're just an employee or even the owner of a business just trying to make the place sound better. I'm adding this as an afterthought just in case - I am in no way affiliated with this gym. I really just found the place online in February and I've been going ever since!)

The classes at the regular gym were always packed to capacity, with no room to move. I found Fuse and am always motivated to schedule a class daily with the user friendly app. I don't feel like I am wasting away monthly memberships like at a regular gym. Fuse is the place where you don't feel like people are looking at you differently and the small classes make for a great workout! The workouts are challenging but Pete and Sebastian always make sure we are working out without injuring ourselves. They take time to explain the proper way to do each exercise and modify if you need. I not only love the classes and the trainers but the atmosphere is great, there are people of all shapes and sizes and you don't ever feel silly asking a question or needing something explained again. I have been to many gyms and worked out literally all over the world and I think Fuse is the best!

So i decided to join her one day as her plus one. First off, know that you have to drive all the way to the back of the plaza to find it. But there's plenty of parking. The studio is run by two nice trainers: Sally and Jordan. They are very open and all about helping you. They tell you their story and listen to yours. It's all about setting goals and appreciating the little accomplishments. First thing when you walk in is that it's one big room. Not little alcoves here and there. Just a huge mat for you to get sweaty on. I did notice there's not one mirror- which is quite interesting. There is complementary child care and very nice locker rooms. They are like to do one on one meetings to check in with you every other week. Their hours are a bit wonky so check the class schedule each week before coming in. But what I like most about this place is that if you can't do a conventional push up, they find another way to get your body to work the same muscles. My advice? Come try it out!

They are very approachable with any concerns you have and will help you any areas you are uncertain with, especially if you need more help on completing a particular exercise/or how to use an exercise equipment. I had a difficulty with the rope and stepping up which I was provided a lower level until I reached a medium to advance level. The 16-week workout was very challenging with numerous different exercises which created a "non boring" challenge and the opportunity to learn various parts that the exercise equipment targets the body. I also learned other ways to improve my strength and flexibility. Great family atmosphere and a comradery with all personnel. There line of equipment was top shelf and well maintained.

I took three sessions with him. One individual, one with my fiancée, one interrupted because of what happened. Between session I had to cancel two (which I told him to charge me for) because of personal reasons and I was being tested for Covid-19. In this time he sent inappropriate text to me. Stating he loved watching me work out and he couldn't wait until I was back in the gym. I'm engaged and a sexual assault survivor. He knows these things. This took me the wrong way. Instead of just not showing up again, I tried to have a conversation with him, like professionals about this text messages, maybe I took it the wrong way? He had every excuse in the book. "He was texting his gf and text me by accident" "he text like 7 clients at a time" "he gets busy and distracted and doesn't know who he's texting" "I'm not even his type" when I said I wanted to just talk he said how about you get your money back. He didn't even want to professionally have a conversation about what happened. So that was a big enough red flag to me to get away. He continued for the second time to tell me I wasn't his type. I told him, I'm really trying to be professional, he said "I am a professional, look at me." It took multiple times for him to venmo me my money back. His workouts were hard. His professionalism is horrible. I went there because he has great reviews but I don't know what's changed between those reviews and now. I also showed other trainers in the industry the text he sent me to make sure I wasn't over reacting. The agreed it was very creepy. Maybe he was having an off day? I don't know? He then went on to tell me through text I'm the first client to ever feel like this. And sorry I felt like a VICTIM in capital letters. I am not a victim, I am a survivor. So many red flag. I followed them on social media, because their group workouts were great. I'm now blocked (before this review) and again I'm not really sure what I did wrong or how that's professional? But to each their own. Best of luck to this gym. I was really interested in working out here and I was bringing people here to also join. Really bad management skills.

So here we go - my pros and cons Pros - Friendly and welcoming owner Mel greeted me and chatted while we waited for the class to begin. He is a very nice man and even made me laugh a few times. Plus for not having that 'gym machismo' factor. Pro - This workout is intense - I'm pretty fit, but I got my butt handed to me so much so that the next day I went out and purchased a fitbit heart rate monitor so I can see how close to cardiac arrest I am should I ever go back. Pro - This is a total body workout - strength, cardio, balance, they hit all the zones. Pro - First three classes are free - that is very generous, most places offer your first class and then you're on your own. Cons - There was no stretch what so ever. The class ended and everyone just left. I was kinda left there looking around like "is this it?" Mel said I was more than welcome to stay and stretch if I like, but they dont do it. I felt kinda odd since other's were coming in and so I just left. Cons - I am a person who need a class card. I travel a lot and so I purchase class cards so that I can use them when I'm in the area. This is the type of place that you need to buy a membership. I don't live in the area, but would love to work out here if I'm working in this part of Jersey. Cons - I hate putting this down as a con, but here goes. When this class was taking place we were just told to which exercises to do, there was no demonstration. I know what almost all of the names of things are but even so, there were two or three things that I wasn't sure what they were and I had to look at my fellow exercisers to see what they were doing. It would have been good to see something demonstrated or to have received some correction and adjustment to prevent injury. I would be back if they sold class cards and used something like #MindBodyOnline so I could see their schedule and book classes - but that is only if they sold class cards. If you are very very new to working out, you may find this to be an intensely challenging class.

Quite possibly the best butt-kicking money can buy. No two workout sessions are alike, and expect…read moreto get a full-body workout each time. Mel definitely knows what he is doing and genuinely care about each and every person in the class.
