Calling out people on Facebook and letting your opinion get in the way of a business is petty. Retired Marine here, three combat deployments, decorated, boxer since 2001. Out of all the powerlifting gyms in the Philadelphia area, this happens to be the best bang for your buck. As for accessories, all the machines are carefully selected to optimize strength and hypertrophy. That's not to mention all the cardio equipment and group class options this gym offers. The wall art is absolutely gorgeous and creates a welcoming ambiance for all kinds of athletes. Powerlifting and comic books are two passions of mine, and DCF has managed to blend them both.

When I first came to Spartan I was transitioning from one gym to another…read more I knew I had to make sure I could tolerate the people that were around me that I would be working out with because let's face it, distractions come every day. I also knew I had to find a gym with similar equipment that offered strength toning for my injuries from a prior car accident Because I'm limited on some mobility and they understand this. However, when I walked into spartan and started taking the classes I was blown away. I felt like a kid in a candy store looking at all of the equipment they had to offer in the workouts. it excited me, but challenged me at the same time. Fear started to take over my brain, can I do this bc spartan was far more advanced from where I was coming from. I began taking the drop in workouts, sweating like crazy of course doing my best to overcome the challenge in front of me. I was also looking for a gym with an adult mindset, no pettiness or caddiness, because let's face it... when you go to a gym to actually work out, you shouldn't have to deal with childish distractions. But I saw that I really wasn't going to have to worry about this because everyone there was like a Big happy family that have known each other for years even if they haven't. Everyone here was here to really work out And no one acts as if they are better than you here, instead some of the other clients might come over to help you learn a workout in a different strategy if you aren't getting the movement down as fast as you would like too! I began to see that Spartan wasn't a drama show only drama free zone and when you choose a gym like spartan, you will be able to concentrate better on your workouts! The level of Friendliness from everyone is still there even after I decided to do a month to month contract instead of paying daily. I felt like I was at the right place at the right time if that makes sense, like I hit the lotto because the workouts were challenging and I knew that's what I needed. I know I have the mentality Where I need to be pushed. If I were to workout by myself at home or somewhere like a at your own risk type of gym, I wouldn't go because I have already tried that way before. There is a rotation of trainers for each workout or you can sign up for open gym or do both, whichever you prefer. The classes they offer are a mix of cardio and strength toning, so you aren't just toning but burning calories too and where I was coming from before didn't have much cardio mixed in. But they also offer open gym if you are experienced and want to do it all on your own. They also don't get frustrated with you when you arent getting a move down, instead they keep working with you till you do. It's a great mix and each class still continues to challenge me. Spartan works with you to make sure you are doing the movements correctly and they really do have alot of patience for clients like me who struggle learning a workout. The prices are very reasonable too! I wish I would of done my research and went to this gym first, I am forever grateful for finding spartan gym! Thank you for being so patient with me as I continue into my fitness journey!

I went to a HOTWORX in another state, when I was visiting some family. It was such a great workout…read moreand I swear I have never slept better in my life than the night I did Hot Yoga in the evening. So I saw that northeast Philly was getting one, and I decided to sign up for their pre-sale. Had to wait over 6 months for the gym to finally open, but it's open! First- the gym itself is great. The managers and franchisee are very nice, present, and responsive. This is a big deal! The gym is small, each sauna that you do the classes in is only big enough to hold 3 people, but usually you're flying solo. There's an app to reserve your slot for every class, so you can choose to book a room to yourself, or see someone else is registered and choose to sweat it out with them. Classes are split into HIIT cardio classes that run every 15 minutes on a video loop inside the saunas, and hot isometric classes which are 40 min in length. I love the classes so far. I know it can be repetitive having the same virtual instructor run the exact same class with the exact same script, day after day, but I find it actually a little rewarding, as I get better and able to push harder, the lines I remember from the class seem to make the class feel shorter. "Oh we're already at that point? Almost done!" Now for the bad....the APP IS TERRIBLE. And getting as much psychological reward out of this program relies VERY HEAVILY on the app. If you have a Fitbit instead of an Apple Watch, you can just forget having accurate calories counted, half the time (especially if you take a 2nd class in one visit) it won't even let you record your calories, and "afterburn" is supposed to be tracked for the 60 min after you finish your workout. If you forget to tap "record your calories" right at the 60 min mark, forget it! It records zero calories. So, do I need to buy a $300-600 watch to enjoy accurate app performance? Maybe. But that's nuts. The UX of the app is also some of the worst I have ever seen. None of this reflects on the location of this gym, or the gym itself, so I'm not taking any stars off on the review. I left an App Store review for that. The biggest drawback to the app being a POS, other than not getting the full experience the concept promises, is you can't compete on the leaderboard if your sessions aren't logged correctly, and there's no way to manually add them or fix it. Each gym, and the entire franchise, has a leaderboard and there's supposed to be rewards or prizes for ranking highly, so it's a bit of a let down to know that no matter how often or how hard I show up, I'm not on the leaderboard accurately, and I'm never going to "win" even the mental prize of seeing my name towards the top for our location. :( I'm actually a competitive person, but the app's shortcomings don't allow one to tap into that....which could result in falling off in going altogether, and then canceling your membership. Anyway, I love this gym, despite the app sucking. I feel incredibly energized and CREATIVE after my Hotworx sessions. I'm a graphic designer by trade, so this is SO valuable to me. Maybe I will reward myself with an Apple Watch one of these days. But for now, I know I feel great, and my Fitbit app is still tracking what it is supposed to, just not always sending it to the Hotworx app like it's supposed to.

But with the help and guidance of the owners/instructors, I have lost over 45lbs, lowered my cholesterol by over 100 points, gained confidence in myself, and have made a lot of friends. It's also nice sometimes when an "old timer" (hey, I'm only 40!) like myself beats the 20-year-olds in friendly competition! Classes run an hour starting with a group warm-up, a strength or skill component, and then the WOD (workout of the day) which can last from 3 minutes to over 30 some days. One thing about CrossFit is that EVERYTHING is SCALABLE and no one will ever say anything about it if you do not do the workout prescribed. If you can't jump on a box 24", you can do 16" or 12". If you can't lift 135lbs, you can lift 95 or less if necessary. Everything is based off your skills. Eventually, you WILL see results and improvements in your speed, strength, and stamina. There are no egos at CrossFit Prime, and everyone wants you to succeed. It's awesome to see someone accomplish that first pullup without a band, or get a handstand pushup, or any new movement! Sometimes we have team WODs. CrossFit Prime recently expanded a second time due to their increasing client base and they get the same individual attention they need to succeed just like I did. There is always a certified instructor or two to watch over everyone to make sure they are safe and correct on form which is very important. Even I still need to be corrected and watched sometimes. Additionally, CrossFit Prime has one other program which you may be interested in. OnTheJob is special for police and firefighters. The price is astounding, too. Even more, CrossFit Prime offers nutritional sessions, and can assist you in making better choices with your eating habits. We have participated with PhillyCowShare for fresh, grass-fed beef, and one owner has gotten eggs for members who wanted them. CrossFit Prime sometimes has social activities like a Halloween or Christmas Party or night out on the town, and has had teams participate in the Philly Fight for Life Air Climb, Tough Mudder, Spartan Sprint, Fight Gone Bad, Broad Street Run, South Philly Rumble, and many others. Overall, I cannot say how impressed I have been over these years with CrossFit Prime, and I think you will be, too. Give it a shot, and I know you'll be very pleased with the results!

Generally, the CrossFit experience was very good. What I really liked about CrossFit Prime was its training staff. They were very knowledgeable and helpful, and really wanted me to progress in the WODs. As a newbie to CrossFit training, I often had one-on-one time with the trainers and that attention allowed me to achieve better form and skills. They all have an A+!! In my opinion, CrossFit Prime could improve in their customer care and administrative processes. Although I willfully signed their contract, I was not completely content with the process and contract agreement. I was psyched about starting CrossFit that I overlooked what I had read in the contract. You are required to give them a two-month notice that you plan to cancel your membership, which to me, is questionable. If you decide you cannot continue your membership, you end up paying two more months whether you go or not. It feels more like a trap than a commitment. I did not get a copy of my contract or even a receipt for the card transaction when I signed up. My greatest fear is being inadvertently charged more months than mentioned in the contract. At this point, I do not trust their payment process and will be vigilant for the next months. Nevertheless, I take full responsibility for signing a contract that was not all that clear to me. I learned my lesson. The worse part about this whole experience has been the feeling of being ignored by the gym administrator in charge of customer relations. In my particular case, for the past two weeks I have tried 4 times to get a cancellation acknowledgment and end date from the administration, and to this date, I have not been successful. That is a very disappointing aspect about CrossFit Prime. The customer is the core and lifeline of any business and should be taken care whether it is or is not an important matter to the administrator. If it is an important matter for the customer, it should be an important matter for CrossFit Prime.
