Calling out people on Facebook and letting your opinion get in the way of a business is petty. Retired Marine here, three combat deployments, decorated, boxer since 2001. A "business owner" disrespecting a Marine and combat veteran"? Saying I can't meet my goals because of his view via online coaching?? letting a kid talk to me like he actually does something isn't a thing I let go by.

Out of all the powerlifting gyms in the Philadelphia area, this happens to be the best bang for your buck. As for accessories, all the machines are carefully selected to optimize strength and hypertrophy. That's not to mention all the cardio equipment and group class options this gym offers. The wall art is absolutely gorgeous and creates a welcoming ambiance for all kinds of athletes. Powerlifting and comic books are two passions of mine, and DCF has managed to blend them both.

Skip Leg Day, and Skip This Gym…read more Fusion Gym South Philly has potential in the same way a condemned building has "good bones." I was a member for a year. During that time, I never once found a working locker. For four months, nearly every lock was broken. When I asked staff, they said it was getting fixed. When I complained on Instagram, I was blocked. Repairs happen on a bizarre schedule. One day during peak hours, someone in a welding mask was using a blowtorch to solder the leg extension machine behind a single strand of caution tape. Sparks were flying, it smelled like molten regret, and I wasn't sure whether to finish my workout or file a mesothelioma claim. The locker room smells like a foot--the kind a Civil War barber-surgeon would immediately amputate. I would rather eat unsanitary street food than shower there. The humidity is intense, and the cleaning approach is laughable: one bucket of dirty mop water gets dragged across what feels like 20,000 square feet of gym floor. Are they rationing soap? Most members keep to themselves, but about one in ten act like they escaped auditions for a VH1 celebrity dating show. One regular in a crop top hoards three machines to do some kind of punching-based oblique workout. If you try to work in, he treats it like an act of war. Others proudly wear MAGA or "Atilis Gym" merch, radiating main-character energy no one asked for. There is no lunk alarm, no enforcement, and no gym etiquette. It's Bizarro Planet Fitness--a chaotic mirror version where weight-slamming is constant and common sense goes out the window. If there were a basketball court, people would probably be doing Snake Plissken shot clock drills in ski goggles. I even showed up in the background of a TikTok rant for using the hip thrust machine during someone's filming session. There's nothing wrong with a man trying to work his way out of a flat butt. The music is offensively loud. Despite wearing noise-canceling headphones and partial hearing loss, I could still make out every word of Kanye and Drake. There's an entire cardio section that stays empty because it sits under the loudest speaker in the city. The staff and trainers seem burnt out and disengaged. When I tried to cancel my membership, I was given three different answers across three calls. One person told me to call an 800 number. Another told me to wait until the end of the week. The third said it was canceled but to double-check with ABC Fitness. I gave up and emailed them myself. No one seemed to have the same answer twice. Final verdict: like skipping leg day, skip this gym. Your lungs, ears, and sanity will thank you.

Members all pay different prices. Just not a great run gym. You also have to bring your own weights, mats and other equipment. I have been a member for close to 7 years and have recently seen members becoming more and more disappointed in this gym then ever before. I am one of those members, and we all feel so uncomfortable saying anything because you are met with an unjust attitude. The owners children also should not be allowed to run through the gym during classes or do their dance routines while paying members are there. Just not run professionally.

If she wasn't working out she was always on her phone. I've never seen a fitness page that looks like hers - filled with selfies and videos of only her working out. She's a gym owner not a client but you would never know it. I finally had to stop paying for her gym because she truly only cares about herself and no one else. There's also no separation between her personal life and business life. Her classes are also crazy expensive for basically showing up to workout and following her workout of the day that she writes on the board. Her equipment is average and her gym is dirty.

I went to a HOTWORX in another state, when I was visiting some family. It was such a great workout…read moreand I swear I have never slept better in my life than the night I did Hot Yoga in the evening. So I saw that northeast Philly was getting one, and I decided to sign up for their pre-sale. Had to wait over 6 months for the gym to finally open, but it's open! First- the gym itself is great. The managers and franchisee are very nice, present, and responsive. This is a big deal! The gym is small, each sauna that you do the classes in is only big enough to hold 3 people, but usually you're flying solo. There's an app to reserve your slot for every class, so you can choose to book a room to yourself, or see someone else is registered and choose to sweat it out with them. Classes are split into HIIT cardio classes that run every 15 minutes on a video loop inside the saunas, and hot isometric classes which are 40 min in length. I love the classes so far. I know it can be repetitive having the same virtual instructor run the exact same class with the exact same script, day after day, but I find it actually a little rewarding, as I get better and able to push harder, the lines I remember from the class seem to make the class feel shorter. "Oh we're already at that point? Almost done!" Now for the bad....the APP IS TERRIBLE. And getting as much psychological reward out of this program relies VERY HEAVILY on the app. If you have a Fitbit instead of an Apple Watch, you can just forget having accurate calories counted, half the time (especially if you take a 2nd class in one visit) it won't even let you record your calories, and "afterburn" is supposed to be tracked for the 60 min after you finish your workout. If you forget to tap "record your calories" right at the 60 min mark, forget it! It records zero calories. So, do I need to buy a $300-600 watch to enjoy accurate app performance? Maybe. But that's nuts. The UX of the app is also some of the worst I have ever seen. None of this reflects on the location of this gym, or the gym itself, so I'm not taking any stars off on the review. I left an App Store review for that. The biggest drawback to the app being a POS, other than not getting the full experience the concept promises, is you can't compete on the leaderboard if your sessions aren't logged correctly, and there's no way to manually add them or fix it. Each gym, and the entire franchise, has a leaderboard and there's supposed to be rewards or prizes for ranking highly, so it's a bit of a let down to know that no matter how often or how hard I show up, I'm not on the leaderboard accurately, and I'm never going to "win" even the mental prize of seeing my name towards the top for our location. :( I'm actually a competitive person, but the app's shortcomings don't allow one to tap into that....which could result in falling off in going altogether, and then canceling your membership. Anyway, I love this gym, despite the app sucking. I feel incredibly energized and CREATIVE after my Hotworx sessions. I'm a graphic designer by trade, so this is SO valuable to me. Maybe I will reward myself with an Apple Watch one of these days. But for now, I know I feel great, and my Fitbit app is still tracking what it is supposed to, just not always sending it to the Hotworx app like it's supposed to.

The meh: cardio machines are so old. So old that they have the old apple chargers that haven't been used since around 2010. So good if you want to charge your 2007 iPod. The other thing is it is so so hot in there. The front desk woman said that the air is controlled by the main office in California. Are they kidding? Really? Heat wave in Philly 100 degrees I couldn't go. There are these ridiculous fans that are on the ceilings. So high up. You don't feel a thing. I'm a 55 year old type I diabetic. Yikes. I'd love to shoot a basketball for fun occasionally but that could never happen. The courts no matter what time are taken up by dudes who just play each other. The TVs on the machines are trash. Maybe five channels. Maybe. Static. No fans on machines. A workout hellscape. No one cleans the machines or uses towels but me it seems. I may go back to planet fitness Oh and the weight area. Men trying to intimidate me when I go in but screw them. Acting like I don't belong in there. Too bad dudes. I will go in anyway. They need to revamp. I was a member there in Bensalem in 08 and it was nice because it was new. Now it looks the same exact way with the same machines that are now 17 plus years old. Hot, stinky and fix the machines that are broken. I'm sure this is mostly corporate being cheap though. How unfortunate. They do have good hours also.
