But after 9 days of my mother-in-law being at the Commons we took her out!!! The staff are very inexperienced with the special needs that my mother-in-law requires, she has dementia and gastroparesis, which requires a very special diet. On the first day she was there they gave her foods she could not eat. The staff played on their phones every time I visited her in the short time of 9 days. They never welcomed her to make her feel at home and when we went to visit she would be crying and she would say take me home. Well with that being said we got her home to find bruises on her backside and bruised up and down her arms. Please, please before you put your loved one in a facility think twice. Left a bad taste in my mouth as we expected a bit more compassion for my mother-in-law. She is in her own home now with a live in nurse and security cameras and happy. So if you ask me how was her stay at Savannah Commons?? Awful!!!

LeRia Hudkins & Savannah Commons Team provided kind, considered and professional help during my mother's stay. When things took a turn for the worse, we will never forget their helping us make it through such an unbearably sad experience. We are forever grateful. Keith P.

They were horrible. I would visit my mom and sit in the room with her for 8-10 hours. Not 1 person…read morewould come and check on her, assist her, nothing. They said they assisted her with showers, but she would be in the same clothes as the day before and no towels moved? I would call the administrator or text him. Never received anything back. We finally got cameras in her room (the administrator was aware and a sign was outside her door) , would see aides sitting on her walker and her couch. Eating her ice cream. Not assisting my mother in her kitchen. Wouldn't even bring her walker to her (mom was prone to fall, and needed it) because they would be sitting on it. Every time my mom would go to the hospital, she would come back and have her meds all screwed up. One time I brought mom home from the hospital, they said they cleaned, but I found at least 20 straight pins on her bathroom floor. Another time she was in the hospital for over a month, her laundry , room .. nothing was touched . But they are supposed to be cleaning every week? Or at least check the laundry so her dirty clothes weren't sitting there for over a month? Other times we would see them not check on mom til 1 or 2 in the afternoon to make sure she was ok. So she wasn't offered breakfast or lunch. Mom was under 90lbs. I can go on and on about the facility. They had my moms health decline so fast she died less that a year after moving in. For as much as we paid , we expected more. We hired outside sources to help . The aid that walked off the job, they hired to work there?? We would have taken mom in, but her medical needs were more than we could do. And moms kids are spread between Georgia, California and Ohio. Also, we discovered that moms "call for help" button didn't work that she wore around her neck. Their solution? Gave her a whistle. A day later she had fallen , hit her head and was laying in a pool of blood, trying to blow this whistle for help, but the blood kept making it slip out of her hands and she was too weak to blow it loud enough

There is a beautiful young lady with the voice of an angel who comes into your suite (with permisision) to play her guitar and sing the most glorious hymns to usher your loved one into a state of bliss and calm. There is also a lovely gentleman who also plays as well. The people and volunteers offer their gifts and talents as a service of kindness to everyone no matter what their religious beliefs are neither their race, color, or ethnicity. I would encourage everyone who can afford to make a donation of financial support do so on behalf of Hospice Savannah because they provide so many free extensions of service. For example, they have a lovely snack cart filled with treats and drinks to help you stay as long as your belly will allow you. They also have a paid machine too, but how wonderful to consider those free options. They also provide meals to those members who stay at the facility with their loved one. I know that your financial support would be extremely beneficial to carry out this practice. There is an in house social worker who provides support to everyone. The rooms are large and there is plenty of space to house a larger group. There is an outdoor patio that offers a large table with an umbrella and small green space to provide a comfortable spot to temporarily switch focus during such a hard time. Unfortunately death is a part of life and a path that is certain; however Hospice Savannah makes this passage, beautiful.

She helped us make our mother comfortable and talked us through every step with patience and compassion. It was hard to say goodbye but with Hospice Savannah on board she received dignified care.
