Buckingham is What a Nursing Home is Supposed to Be! When it came time to find a nursing home for my father, I was deeply worried that my Dad's new home wouldn't be sufficiently caring, clean, comfortable or professionally operated. So, I researched well over a hundred nursing homes across Chicago and the suburbs. I am so glad that exhaustive search enabled me to find Buckingham Pavilion! Everyone was caring, understanding, patient and attentive to my Dad's needs. This was true of everyone on the team from the receptionists to the nurses, to the escorts, to the maintenance staff. I was never given any reason to worry about my Dad's level or care or comfort. During my many visits, I saw that he, and the other residents, were happy at Buckingham. Also, my Dad's room, the dining room and all the community spaces were always kept clean and the residents' room were significantly more spacious than at other homes. To top it off, one of the owners I frequently checked in with is not only caring, communicative and professional, but a person of great integrity. I could not be more thankful for everything that everyone at Buckingham did for my Dad and my family. read more

We have loved Buckingham Pavilion since placing my mother there 6 mos ago! The staff, from the owner to the receptionists, all have a cheerful, "can-do" attitude, Vice the "can't-do" or "no" default of so many places. And we've seen plenty, as my mom needed several short-term rehabs and assisted livings. We've found her forever home, and I can't recommend Buckingham Pavilion highly enough! read more

As the son of another resident told me when I was checking out the place, "Buckingham is as good as it gets without paying a fortune" - in other words, within what Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid will pay. (Because of those constraints, all such institutions can NOT pay top $$ for staff or decor.) My elderly impoverished hermit neighbor was treated very well at Buckingham during the last 4 peaceful years of his life, until the inevitable happened and a massive stroke put him into a coma - he died a week later in hospital without reawakening. Buckingham is NOT part of a chain, and is owned & run by several generations of a family who are committed and caring. I would have given 5 stars. BUT, anyone residing here who, in the process of dying, stops eating, WILL get a feeding tube here, due to the operators' religious beliefs. I, and many people in the hospice movement, disagree with this religious position, because we believe that a feeding tube in a dying person will likely cause a more painful and less peaceful death, due to pneumonia brought on by inhaling food. read more

10/1/2017 The decor is depressing. It appears that the decorating at the facility has not been updated since it was opened probably in the 70s. The pillow inside the case was dirty and matted.  The food that was brought to the room looked so unappetizing that it was appalling.  Although they are required to report falls to patients' families, they neither treated the wound, nor reported it.  The staff seemed nice, but they seemed understaffed and over worked.  Useful 2 read more

My husband had a stay at this facility for a little over a month. I was there every day and learned their process. Overall my husband's rehabilitation was a success. We met a few of their best staff and a few temps that were over qualified to work there. Brandon(OT) great job! My husband's still talking about how helpful you were and for going above and beyond. My husband had reported a problem with tailbone pain and after an X-ray found to broken bones it was dismissed by the Doctor. He wanted to see the open wound he had in the area and thank god for his initiative- it was brought up to the wound nurse and healed in about 2 weeks. Maria(Wound Nurse) great job! Dorothy & Jack (PT) was a success, you made it entertaining and fun. We forgot where we were for a moment. Great job! Marylin and Coco were the best nurses there. As for the CNAs always polite, not always helpful but at least respectful. And that's admirable as I compare my experience with another rehabilitation place. Speech therapist- Thank you! I'm glad my husband got better and I'm grateful. Thanks to the care of the staff at Buckingham Pavilion. Not all perfect but happy he improved and that was the goal. read more

We moved my mother-in-law to Buckingham 10 months ago, and we have been very pleased with her care. All the nurses, CNAs, and staff are extremely caring and have worked hard to keep things running smoothly during the pandemic. We have also been impressed with the level of nursing care as the adjustments to her medications and daily activities have improved her condition.My wife and I recently had to go away for a week, and we both agreed that having her at Buckingham was like leaving her in the care of family! read more

If you want to be toyed with, played with, lied too. Take your relative to Buckingham Pavilion. To this date, I have been lied to about their rates going up, after they moved My Aunt to Double room from a single room. Actually got a 6,000 plus refund from them. Then I have not yet heard about the wheelchair rental, for a wheel chair my Aunt went in with. I cannotget any answers from anyone there when I ask. And Now they have pull to quash BBB complaints. My sister and I would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the entire staff of Buckingham Pavilion. Since day one, they treated our mother with care and respect. We felt like they were our extended family, and our mother felt this way too. She would often tell us how good this place was, and how everybody there took great care of her. My parents moved into Buckingham three and a half years ago, each with their own set of health and memory issues. The owners and administration is approachable and responsive, the nursing staff are caring and kind. The CNAs work hard. When my father passed away, last year, the staff reached out to me and have given my mom so much support. My reviews are limited because I only review winners, why waste your or my time regarding mediocre businesses or just plain ranting on line about a bad business experience, right?! That said, I highly recommend Buckingham Pavilion for a loved one. I cannot emphasize this enough; whether it be for home-care or for rehabilitative reasons; this is the place! And here's why: Buckingham Pavilion is the antithesis of any nursing home you have ever known, visited or heard about... There are so many "positive" things about this place, that I cannot name them all, so will list the more important ones as it related to my Father-In Law: DIGNITY: Everyone in this facility treats all with respect, the staff is much kinder than you would expect at a facility such as this... It is amazing... INDEPENDENCE: We couldn't get my father-in-law to ever do physical therapy, so his ability to take care of himself or move about was futile. However, These people at Buckingham got my father up every day for physical therapy and we actually saw progress in his strength! CARING: Okay, the staff at this facility is different because, as you will be able to tell, the staff actually likes working here! Not only did most of the staff have a relationship with my father-in-law, but the staff kept us informed regarding any issues. These people are not afraid to call and inform you when issues occur (Note: When we were told there was an opening at Buckingham, we rushed him in because the previous home was horrendous! My father-in-law arrived at Buckingham dehydrated with major infections & Buckingham took the necessary measures to bring him back to reasonable health. They called us when he needed to go to the hospital due to the pre-existing infection. They will also call you when mishaps occur, such as a fall or a sudden sickness; ordinary things that occur with old age..) CONSISTENCY IN ALL THEY DO: My father-in-law was visited at least 3, if not more, times a week. Every single visit was unannounced and every time we arrived all appeared consistent; when you visit and see the Buckingham employees in action, know that they are not putting a show on for you; the staff here is consistently polite, attentive and pro-active! (In other words, if you worry about your loved one being mistreated, send him or her to Buckingham and your conscience will be clear.) FINANCIALS: Yes, the financials involved in putting your loved one in a home can be scary... Buckingham appears to accept the popular insurance/healthcare plans, but please know that, LIKE ALL OTHER HOMES, you will probably have to pay for the first few months out of pocket, but that money did get reimbursed, once my Father-In-Law's case was approved by the state.... Ordinarily I would name names, but that would be doing the staff at Buckingham a disservice... It appears that every single employee here is plugged into each-other.... On that note, if you REALLY want to get your loved one into Buckingham Pavilion, do the following: 1) Start the paperwork for financing, it is excruciating, you might want to hire a lawyer (Oh, and the lawyers are not cheap either, but again, you might want to pay them to deal with the horrendous paperwork involved in obtaining public aid...) 2) Get your loved ones medical records with names and phone numbers of current physicians... AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL: 3) BE NICE! BE POLITE! Especially to the receptionist! Believe it or not, the receptionists at Buckingham are just as plugged-in as the rest of the facilities employees... So, rather than trying to go to the top (We're all emotional when it comes to our parents and, its a natural impulse to act "with a sense of urgency"; but you won't need to do that at Buckingham...) and state why you are calling, give a little background AND ASK THE RECEPTIONIST HOW TO PROCEED... It might take a day or two, but they will respond (That's why you want to have all the medical records and numbers handy, before you call. I do believe, because we were prepared, we fast-tracked my father-in-law into Buckingham) In closing, if any member of Buckingham's staff is reading this, I cannot thank you guys and gals at Buckingham Pavilion enough for making a significant "positive" difference in my Father-In-Laws life and final days. Know, strike that, BE REASSURED, that you are different than other homes and there is probably not a home comparable to yours; be proud that, in my family's eyes, your home a benchmark facility! read more

My sister has been in Buckingham for several years now. Although I live out of state, I visit her regularly for extended periods, and I also have frequent phone contact with my sister and with Buckingham staff. With that background, I can unequivocally say that Buckingham is the finest, highest-quality nursing home for a relative or loved one that you'll be able to find. I am particularly impressed with their physical therapy program. They not only have certified physical therapists on staff, but they have therapy providers working directly under the supervision of the certified therapists, so residents can get cheap, very effective exercise to maintain their physical health. This was something I looked at in particular as a criterion, and I only found one other home that had this type of service. Another very important aspect of Buckingham is that the staff is stable. The same people that I first encountered years ago are still working there. These are very intelligent, very caring, engaged people. The fact that their staff is so stable means that they get to know the patients and get to know the procedures very well. This results in excellent and personalized care. They also put emphasis on keeping each of their residents active and engaged. They have a very caring activities director, who got my sister involved in intensive water color painting, an activity for which my sister had considerable talent, but never tried before. The staff also put themselves out to accommodate my sister's music activities, including setting up her practice environment and coordinating with her music therapists. Buckingham takes responsibility for professional services: the home arranges for physician visits, psychotherapy when needed, and a visiting dentist and optometrist. Just as important, they arrange inexpensive transportation: my sister visits outside dentists and medical specialists. Since my sister doesn't have a relative or friend handling her appointments, Buckingham handles everything, including arranging for transportation, getting her ready, and sending someone to accompany her. This allows her to get the best care available in the city. The general environment of the home is clean rooms, clean halls, cheerful lighting, and cozy activity rooms. I noticed that some other homes I was evaluating had dining spaces or recreation spaces that were so large you could get depersonalized. Buckingham maintains an intimate atmosphere. To summarize, I don't know another nursing home that even comes close to the quality of care, personal attention, and services that Buckingham provides. read more

Buckingham Pavilion is an amazing nursing home and rehabilitation center with caring staff who helped my grandmother with every need of hers. My grandmother always mentioned how much fun she had interacting with the staff and attending group activities with other residents. The rehab staff really helped my grandmother recover from her knee replacement surgery and regain her ability to walk again. I would definitely recommend Buckingham Pavilion to anyone looking to place a family member in a long term care facility or just for some rehabilitation services! read more

My father stayed at Buckingham Pavilion for rehab services. I was very impressed with the care he recieved. The staff was well educated and equipped to handle all the residents. The supervisors and administrators overlooked the staff and assisted with any issues very effectively. I've never been to a nursing home with so many different activites available for residents. I really think the activites made so mnay residents happy and kept them active. My father particularly enjoyed the wide selection of food options available. I highly recommend this nursing home for anyone who requires care. I truly think Buckingham Pavilion is equipped to help everyone who walks through their doors. read more
