Great small shop for all your brewing needs. It doesn't look like much but it has everything you could possibly need. The staff is super helpful and you can tell they enjoy the craft themselves. We have been going here for our brewing needs. They have always been good, but under the new owners, they are great. We rarely have to substitute. If you are brewing something exotic and call ahead, they will try to meet your needs. Last time, Sara was manning the counter. She was outstanding. Knowledgeable, friendly, and a joy to deal with. These folks are far away, as we are in Canal Winchester, but it is well worth the trip. read more

I was always turned off by Buckeye Brewcraft due to some "issues" with their previous owner. The business was recently sold to a new owner, making me more interested in visiting. The true push for my visit was Gentiles' decision to wrap up their homebrew offerings. This last weekend, I decided to stop here to get some supplies. I was greeted by a friendly woman who was very busy with a Sunday morning rush of brewers needing all sorts of supplies. Despite this, she put together two grain bills for me in less than 10 minutes, which was a pleasant replacement for the self-service offerings at Gentiles'. They had a comprehensive selection of Wyeast, Imperial, White Labs, and Omega yeasts. I'll be back in the near future. Although I wish the shop were in a better part of town, the service and offerings were excellent. read more

How's this for exceptional customer service?? I wasn't able to cap my bottles after having problems with my new caper. So I called the store to leave them a message since it was well after hours and the new owner answered my call from home. Since the shop was closed the next day and he didn't want me to lose my batch, at 9 PM he offered to meet me half way to loan me his own bottle caper so I could return home and finish my batch. The owner is almost always there and he's very friendly and helpful. It's the nearest place I can get supplies for my favorite hobby and things seem to be very reasonably priced. The location is great and I can usually find street parking right out front. Worse case scenario: I park a block away in the private lot behind the businesses. They'll have everything you need for winemaking, beermaking, and more. Comfortable and welcoming atmosphere and they'll answer any questions you have. I've been there when the owner gets a little gruff with the employees in front of customers, and that's unfortunate. But lapse in etiquette aside, a solid place. Telling someone they can't do something when they specifically came in to ask about it, is not a good way to run a business. We drove across town to come to this store because we wanted to try a new brew, and we'd been here before. Walked in and asked the guy for help to pick out the right ingredients and to get started in the right place. We were immediately told no and that we wouldn't want to do it because we don't have enough experience, and we wouldn't do it right. We had done tons of research before making this decision and were ready to purchase, however we will never come back to this store because of his immediate judgement of us before we even said a word. read more

The place seemed to be exactly what I was looking for when we first walked in. I planned to buy a few starter kits for myself and a few relatives. As I was approaching the counter the owner was discussing politics. A few people were sharing their opinions with him since he brought it up. He shouted them down, and kicked them out of the store. I visited Buckeye Brewcraft recently to fill out a grain bill. Selection is good and growing. Pricing is excellent. And, the owner is fantastic and knowledgeable. I do appreciate the convenience of a few of the other brewing supply stores in town, but I'm constantly torn between whether their service and convenience justifies the pricing. I took a brief tour of this joint during a busy Farmers Market day and they have everything you need to brew some beer. I wouldn't say they have anything obviously different compared to Gentile's down in Grandview, though perhaps Gentiles offers more variety of supplies. Prices are around the same. read more

My husband and I absolutely love this shop. The owner is amazing, and his new staff are great as well. I know that my husband looks forward to every time he gets to go in to this shop, and always comes away with new information and new ideas on what he is going to make next. The shop owner has alot of experience, and I am quite sure that the information that he gives us on our latest endeavors is correct and probably from his own experience (which I appreciate). I know that any of our friends who brew beer etc. I advise them to come to this shop, as they will not be disappointed! It is always clean, great help, and a good variety of items to choose from. It seems as though they are always adding new things as well. In fact, my husband informed me that they might even be able to get barrels for us to age product in! Very cool.... I love supporting local folks like this who love what they do and make that very apparent. Buckeye Brewcraft is a new store (July 2013), but it already has almost everything you need. It definitely is a homebrew store, but there are a lot of winemaking kits and equipment available here as well. The prices are great and the owner is willing to order almost anything you need that is not already in stock. If you check for the same product prices online (where they are typically able to beat retail) you'll find that Buckeye Brewcraft's prices are very comparable, you don't have to pay shipping, and you are supporting a local business. There are brewing classes, one of a kind gift items made specifically for this shop with other local businesses, special community events (like competitions) planned, and I am sure even more in the works. If you have any questions, Jim is willing and more than able to offer suggestions or recommendations. He is quickly executing his plan to make sure his store becomes the one stop shop for everything homebrewing that everyone seems to always be looking for. By the end of September/October there should be a full selection of beer and wine kits, equipment, and ingredients (that is pretty much already there), tons of specialty equipment, Kegging components/starter kits, and a CO2 cylinder exchange program. This is a great store with friendly and knowledgable ownership, and fantastic hours. If you are a seasoned brewer, or just have an itch to try it, definitely stop in and you will not be sorry. read more

Stopped by this place after a search on Yelp. They had a good selection of equipment and the like. I personally dabble in mead production and they had all the components for its production. Their selection of beer making supplies are extensive and they were quick to help and answer questions. I will definitely return when I am in town again. Who'd have thunk it, a home brewing store in the heart of "The Dry Capital of the World"? And not just any brewing store, but one of the best in central Ohio. The owner is incredibly friendly. He stocks plenty of the basics, and even a few of the not so basic ingredients. And if he doesn't have something you are looking for, he has no problems ordering it for you. Prices are fair. This is by far my favorite beer/wine brewing supply store that I've ever been in. I'm not saying that because it's in Westerville but because it actually is the best. I've been in a lot of places that sell beer and wine making supplies but the assortment and personal attention you get from all the employees is what makes it so great. Jim Downing is usually always in there and he is always willing to talk beer. If you have questions they always have answers. Have a recipe that you're not sure what's going wrong or what you should add to it? Just go in there and ask those guys. It is truly one of the few full service stores around and just going in there and talking to the guys is well worth your time. Pick up a few kits or build your own they'll be glad to help. read more

I am a complete newcomer to home brewing, so I was quite elated to find a shop that was right in my back yard. My first visit was interesting, as I found a regular customer quite a bit more helpful than the guy kid behind the counter. He looked quite young, so I completely understood if he couldn't help me a whole bunch. It happens. My next visit was the very next day, in which I picked out the starter kit that I wanted to purchase. I was still a little apprehensive about the hobby, but the lady who was working there was also quite helpful in mentioning that there was an upcoming class on home-brew. I was very happy to find that out, and I eagerly signed up for the very next class. Unfortunately, that is where things went south. I showed up for class about 5 minutes early, and walked around looking at some items. One of the guys in there, the owner I think, asked me if I needed some help. I said that I was there for the brewing class, and he uttered that "he was still trying to put things together for the class". No worries, I thought. I could narrow down my inaugural brew choice and still have time to buy my equipment and get home in time to unpack my new hobby. I shuffled around the store for the next 20 minutes waiting for the class to start, but it didn't. No word on when class would start, or no mention of how long it would take. The store wasn't overly busy, and the only pressing thing that he was working on was trying to get his mill grinder (I think that is what it was) working again. I ended up leaving frustrated and disappointed in the level of customer service that I experienced. Because of this experience, I am planning on purchasing my equipment from an online retailer. I had planned on buying about $250 dollars worth of equipment tonight, but it looks like I will have to find another source for my new hobby. read more
