As much as I love Buc-ee's, I had a really disappointing experience today. I usually buy bakery items, snacks, and fuel, but this time my child grabbed a chicken and fries basket with ranch and ketchup. Since I was already carrying several things, I set the ranch cups and ketchup packets on top of my closed purse while heading to checkout. At the register, I handed over the food basket, ranch cups, pastries, nuts, and everything else. We spent about $75 on snacks and another $60 on fuel. Then the cashier asked, "Ma'am, are you trying to steal ketchup?" I was completely caught off guard. I have never stolen anything in my life and honestly didn't even know ketchup packets were something that had to be paid for. When she asked how many I had, I told her 3 or 4, and I immediately paid for them. There was never any argument or hesitation. It was simply an honest mistake. What made the situation upsetting was how embarrassing it felt to be accused in front of other customers. Maybe there was a sign posted near the hot food section, but I didn't pick up the food myself and never saw it. I just wish there had been a little more understanding, especially considering we had already spent well over $100 in the store. A simple explanation that the sauces were an extra charge would have gone a lot further than making me feel like I was trying to steal. Sunday, 5-31-2026: I had seen & heard about this place from family and on TV. This place is huge! They should at least have a couple of Buc-ee's in every state. What a crazy, unexpected concept! They have everything here. It was definitely sensory overload for me. It was crowded with locals & tourists. It's very organized and clean. The restroom was impressively clean. We mostly bought snacks. Love the warm candied nuts like pecans. We left without exploring the entire store due to the crowded conditions. We were checked out quickly by a friendly cashier. If you know, you know. Road trips have to have a planned stop at Bucee's whether you need to gas up, bathroom break, or grab road snacks and shop. If you're not stopping, we can't be friends. Needed a break and do some shopping. Had to grab their 250 anniversary American shirt. Which comes with a Buc-ee's sticker. I usually put on my car, then it fades with the Texas sun and I peal it off till I get a new one. Customer service is on point. Everyone is nice, polite, helpful, and just Southern. Love coming here. I normally have a great experience however today 8/11 around 2PM the two cashier ladies by the side front door just needed to make things harder than they needed to be... I got my iced coffee and saw the cute white cups for sodas and since those cups don't sweat as much, I put my coffee in there. How cute. My husband's at the register while I use the restroom. Come out to the lady making a sour face saying those cups are strictly for sodas and it's against policy to put the ice coffee there. I'm sorry we don't work there and there's no sign? Lol She has the other gal dump my ice coffee into the clear plastic cup and throws away the white cup infront of me and looks at me and says "sorry!" all snarky. Then the other gal said if I wanted the cup I could pay for an ice cup. Why throw away 3 plastic cups just to charge me for one? And why not just offer me to pay for the ice cup in the first place so I could keep my coffee in there? Like we haven't spent hundreds of dollars here - why be petty for a couple cents?? read more

Personally, I hated being inside this place. For those not from Texas, Buc-ee's is like an overdue love child with a truck-stop and a Cracker Barrel as its parents. This place is the size of a baby Walmart (think old timey Walmart before the era of Supercenters), but with all the accouterments of a travel stop: fudge and jerky and whatever other confections all made in house, a completely unnecessary store with clothes, kitchen items, hunting gear, beaver print swimsuits, and souvenirs, and only a small section for coolers. For all the wasteful junk this place sells, they can't even carry something as simple as a sugar free Red Bull. In fact, the sugar free items were almost nonexistent, essentially encouraging an outdated lifestyle filled with sugar, consumerism, and an eventual trip to the doctor for diabetes. My husband loves this place, and the store is crowded with people moving around like they're at an amusement park. One thing I'll say is that there is a very open space, and it's needed because there were easily over two hundred people inside this place, and you could stare straight down and have better luck finding the ocean's horizon. And it's clean, so I guess there's that. I'm not removing more than one star because this is all based on my personal preference and the fact I don't like sugary food. Though I'm diabetic, a kombucha won't kill me, but I still would have preferred the sugar free Red Bull. I did find a Super Mario Bros shirt my son will love, and I think that's nice, but wow, I'm genuinely afraid to see how much of this product will go to waste and sit in a landfill. They still have the cleanest bathrooms than most other rest stops. Also, there is hand sanitizer everywhere, which is great because if you go on a weekend you'll think you're in a mall in the 2000s. Their gases prices are typically cheaper than other places too. All sorts of snacks and they even have healthy options like fruit and salads. The battery prices are about 60 to 70 percent cheaper than anywhere else. Gas prices are cheaper than most places and the pumps are plenty. For years have stopped at Buccee's on various drives . Today's likely my last until they restore free water bottle refills. I typically spend $10-$30 solo on various buccees items on a stop and today no exception. When it's a family roadtrip - usually a bit more. I was shocked when the clerk looked at my 20oz water bottle and asked if I'd gotten a refill. He didn't look particularly happy about it, but now company policy to charge! $1.99 - even though a 42oz fountain drink with styrofoam cup is $1.19. Been in Texas for 14 years and had seen Buccee's as an institution. Guess just a $$$$ machine a that wanted a way to make more. Like most Texans, I love Buc-ee's. It's more than a gas station, it's a full-on road trip tradition. I'm lucky to live close to the New Braunsfels and Bastrop locations, and I'm counting down the days until the new one opens in Kyle. I just returned home from a road trip to 19 states. One of the highlights of my trip was Buc-ee's! We were amazed at Buc-ee's and stopped at at least 6. This 'tourist' stop is only 30mins from where my daughter lives. I don't know why we don't go more often, or maybe I do after the last visit on Labor day weekend. it was very crowded and I'll have to make note of that next time. A normal stop for us on any trip that passes one, bathrooms are always clean and that is a huge selling point for Shana. They had a fun Easter shirt on sale. Gas is 2.51 and we got soda, coffee, beaver nuggets, jerky and a buc-ee's rubber duck. Great stop as always but this time the cashier was a little less friendly then normal. Not mean but didn't engage in talking and our smiles and friendly attitude seem to annoy her. I get that no one likes their job but we were not rude or assholes.
