Really glad I tried it. I tried stopping by one day when they'd been opened fewer than two hours I…read morethink but was out of luck; they were sold out. So I came by one Sunday before opening and was surprised that there were only about five people ahead of me in line shortly before they opened. They threw the doors wide open precisely at noon. Asa, the proprietor, clearly has a passion for the work she does. She's a bit of a cross between a poet and a pastry chef--check out the descriptions she writes of her pies if you don't believe me! Each slice is unlike any pie I've ever tasted. She had a pie with fig, and that was the closest to a conventional pie she had (if you can call it that--as I said, I find it hard to describe her offerings). All were creamy, decadent, and unique in the true sense of the word. Her crusts were amazing. Also unique is the way she runs her business. She is based out of a little counter in the Poke San that's on the corner of Wells & Huron. The hours she keeps are minimal. And it's a total of two people--her father, who takes payment, and her. Her passion comes out in the care that she takes with each slice: She bakes the pies, of course, but then she adorns them upon ordering. You will wait several minutes once you've ordered your slice, and if you are in line you will be waiting for a while depending upon your place (being 5th or 6th in line, I was finished about 15-20 minutes after the shop opened). It's clear she sees this as artistic expression, and honestly that is plain to see in how she finishes each slice: A brûlée'd top on this one (caramelized whilst you watch), decorating that one with local--real--flowers. It's an experience and if you like to try new things, or just taste something that is fairly unlike other local offerings, you should consider giving it a try before she moves on to new ventures.

The slice of pie was incredible and this is my new favorite dessert spot. It is quite pricey ($14…read morefor a singular slice), but a more special occasion type of pastry treat. Got the second one which is creamy cinnamon flavor with a brûléed top. There's some poured rice and cinnamon crème fraiche on the top. It wasn't overly sweet (huge compliment), and the crust was very flaky. How it works: -you can order at the window and there's little menus that are handwritten with the four pie options -the base pie is already done, and she will finish and add the decorations and toppings after you order Packaging is beautiful and very high end. Service was very fast (no one in line on a Sunday afternoon). Definitely will be back!

The interior is very inviting, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's a versatile space that works well for a romantic dinner, a casual date night, or even an evening out with family. We were promptly greeted by the hostess and seated at a table near the front window. Our server, Naomi, welcomed us right away and immediately made us feel comfortable with her friendly and engaging personality. She brought water to the table, took our drink orders, and returned quickly with our beverages before checking if we were ready to order. After answering a few questions, we decided on the fresh oysters, four-cheese flatbread, and pork belly tacos. The oysters were served first, and Naomi took the time to explain their region and variety, which added a nice touch to the experience. They were fresh, clean, and nicely briny. The four-cheese flatbread was rich and flavorful, made with fresh ingredients that really stood out. We also enjoyed the house-cured pork belly tacos--the meat was tender and well-prepared. I requested the toppings on the side, which was accommodated without issue. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. The service, atmosphere, and food all came together nicely, and we'll definitely be returning again soon.

I will start by saying my only con was the portion sizes for the price. I was left wanting more,…read morebut the food is delicious and the manger came through for us when we were about to walk out disappointed. We wanted something other than just burgers again, so I proposed seafood. There didn't seem to be a lot of options in this area, but Dancing Marlin seemed to fit the bill and was pretty close. Before going, we looked at the menu, and there really wasn't anything my little one was going to want on the kids menu - there was no seafood for the kids, not even a basic fish and chips. He saw the lobster rolls appetizer though, and that sold him, so we got in the car and headed down. When we went to order, the waiter told us the only thing they were out of was the lobster rolls, but when we asked about the lobster gnocchi that my other son was about to order, they said they could do that, so I asked to speak with the manager. She explained that they only liked to use big whole pieces of lobster for the lobster rolls, and that is what they were out of, but had the smaller pieces they normally used in the gnocchi dish. I asked if she could do the lobster rolls with the smaller pieces, and she confirmed with the chef so we were back in business. The food was all excellent. I had the seared ahi and it was delicious, but was just a small portion for my liking. The scallops my wife had were delicious, but for $38 it was only 4 scallops. Maybe kids who live around here don't want fish when their parents do, but you should at least have a kids portion of fish and chips, or some fried shrimp on the menu for them. I'm not going to order a $27 fish and chips portion for a little kid, but he also didn't come to just eat chicken nuggets or buttered noodles.

The ingredients are fresh, high quality, healthy, and delicious! Having a full lunch that leaves you feeling filled and healthy is not something you usually can find at a pumpkin patch! Our go-to order is to get a full Caprese Sandwich and a full El Rancho Sandwich and each have a half of both sandwiches. It is the perfect way to get two amazing sandwiches. Both sandwiches are on delicious baguette that has both the necessary crunch of baguette, but the soft interior. The Caprese is refreshing and crisp with an extra zip from the balsamic and creaminess from the avocado and pesto. The El Rancho is scrumptious with roast beef, tomato, arugula, caramelized onions, feta cheese, and a zippy horseradish sauce. If I was forced to choose just one, I'd get the El Rancho. But I prefer having a half of both! You can get sides of Great Lakes chips, a variety of bottled drinks, and a few baked good dessert items. The prices are reasonable for the high quality food and the staff are always kind, friendly, and helpful. The sandwiches can take a bit longer than other vendors because they are fresh and not pre-made, but the little extra wait is WELL worth it! If you find yourself at Bengston's during mealtime, Rustic Knead is the best spot for scrumptious food that is high quality and healthy!
