    Around the horn at Buatta

The service was great, the food was awesome but the location is sketchy. All of Palermo sucks but this place is decent. I had the lung and spleen and it was good.

    Nice atmosphere. Great staff

The menu is very unique. Special recipes from Sicily. The appetizers were fantastic. Staff was super friendly. Atmosphere is great.

After searching Palermo for a delicious dinner, I chose Buatta for its interesting dishes and it's initially helpful staff. Then I was seated in a sweltering corner and ignored for most of 40 minutes. A couple of waiters were helpful but the female staff seemed overwhelmed and one waitress was rude. It was difficult to order wine. I guess I can stop there?

I will have dreams about my meal at Buatta. From the outside we thought it looked very nice but probably didn't offer authentic food, boy we were wrong. I had the best eggplant parmesan and a spaghetti with fried zucchini. Topped it off with some wine...it was such a good meal. The ambience was lovely and felt the pricing was fair. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. If you would like to hear more about our trip in Palermo and the rest of Italy, please feel free to check out my blog at TheCoreyStory.com :)

Service is rude particularly the sommelier. The food was just so so. Definitely better places in Palmero to dine at.

Tasty food. Service leans relatively good. Artichoke salad was the number one favorite, and the macchiato was my favorite one yet.

Stefano not only continued sharing his knowledge of Sicilian wines but recommended Enoteca Picone to further our experience which was perfect advice. Lunch for me was fried octopus, which was 4 legs, each 6" (150 mm.) long and crispy on the outside and tender but slightly chewy on the inside like great fried chicken. I had seen a plate the night before and actually dreamed of them. They did not disappoint. She chose another iteration of cozze from the specials menu. These mussels were steamed in beer with fresh ginger and were comparably good to the sautéed but slightly more subtle. It turns out that dishes on the specials menu can work their way onto the standard menu if the patrons insist and the chef came out to ask for a comparison. We repeated the contorni plate of chef's choice vegetables that repeated the potato slices but added grill zucchini and oven dried onion that was sweet with all of the bitter components gone and the consistency of a very thin potato chip. We tried to rein in for dinner with pasta only. I had the Sicilian classic Pasta a la Norma with strong fresh tomato, soft eggplant, and sweet onion. It demanded scarpetta even with a white linen table cloth. She had pasta with prawns that was subtle and delicate with a lighter tomato sauce with herbs. We repeated the wines from the night before. We left feeling sad to think we probably wouldn't be back on this trip but smiling from the stomach up.

I decided to have a bucket of clams, awesome! Then in addition, the prosciutto with melon, also the carbonara which had thicker noodles. I dont know that I necessarily care for that, but it was yummy, and so flavorful. I loved it. The service was very direct slightly pretentious in a feel good way. So fun and such a good way to end your night in Italy.

The First Restaurant Experience in Sicily Served Food & Some "Godfather History"…read more I ate at the main branch of restaurant that is known for being one of the first and, for many years, an establishment that stood up against the Mafia and Cosa Nostra. Antica Focacceria's two owners stood against the Mob by refusing to pay the 'pizzu', or protection money. According to Michelin Star Chef #giorgiolocatelli , the consequence is even in recent years, the owners were in exile. Now settled in a confidential place in mainland Italy, they fortuitously and successfully managed the expansion of this Sicilian restaurant all over Italy. Proudly supportive, I sat at the very first branch of the restaurant, the gutsy one that courageously said no to mob bullying, the original Antica Focacceria San Francesco . And I went twice, too. The sandwich here is served slightly different than other locations as the meat is sliced very thin and its topped with shredded cheese. At first we were a little nervous about trying the sandwich but after the first bite i was pleasantly surprised that the cheese really cut organ taste of the spleen. In addition the thinly sliced meat gave it a good balance between the meat to fat ratio. I know a lot of people in our food group were apprehensive about trying it but to be honest my wife and I are pretty open to all types of food and our motto is that will always try something once.

The staff actually stopped us on the street and made it seemed like a great place to eat. We asked if they had fish on the menu as a few of them wanted fish and they confirmed showed us a menu taped to a board in front of restaurant which we liked. We ask to sit outside but only if the two tables by our side were not smoking because we have asthma. They confirmed sat us down. However the bartender had his girlfriend sitting by the bar next to us and she decided to smoke even when she could see us covering out faces. She did it two more times which made it worse. The waiter kept us waiting a while. Finally came and dropped menus and a paper bag which we then noticed it was extremely hard bread. So hard we could hit the table with it. Terrible and sad for an Italian restaurant and for the price. We ordered our food and one of us was left waiting for a long time. Our waitress was no where to be found. I flagged some and told them. And we were left waiting. I went up and found someone and explained and they finally admitted they made a mistake. However no apologies. I had to get up again as the food was still not brought in. All the food was bland except the carbonara which was the only meal we all agreed was great. The fish and vegetables were so disgusting we had to add salt; olive oil, and even balsamic to get some flavors. One of the fish was ordered with different sides and they also had that wrong. Very sad Will say never to go to this place. Service was bad, no one cared and no one even asked.
