I wanted to make sure I followed up because I know my review will mean something for this business. I brought my classic Toyota Land Cruiser to Nayarit Transmission in East Oakland for a transmission fluid change. From the start, I felt at ease. Yes, there's a security dog on-site, but the way the owner treats him says everything!he's clearly part of the family, not just for show. As someone who loves dogs, I really respected that. The owner walked me through the whole process, explained why a higher-quality filter gasket was worth it (and he was right the one I had wasn't great), and even saved the old fluid to show the work was done right. He got the job done faster than I expected and at a more-than-fair price. This shop is built on honesty, hard work, and family values. In today's world, that's rare. I highly recommend Nayarit Transmission if you want quality work and someone you can truly trust with your car.

I came to Nayarit because another mechanic at a different shop said my transmission on my 2015…read moreNissan Rogue was damaged and they don't deal with replacing transmissions. A quick perusal of Reddit revealed that Nissan Rogues from this time period were notorious for major problems with the CVT transmissions and there was no fix apart from replacement. I am always a bit terrified of dealing with mechanics because I realize how vulnerable I am to having to trust the expertise of a complete stranger and I have no real independent way of verifying that I am not being taken for a ride. I was fully expecting having to shell out $7000 or more. So, when I rolled up into Nayarit, I was greeted my Marcos. He was friendly and welcoming, and fully explained the history of problems with Nissan Rogue transmissions and why they generally have to be replaced. But he said he wouldn't know for sure until he did a full diagnostic. So, I left my vehicle with him, fully expecting the worse. So, I was quite surprised when Marcos called me and said that perhaps my problem was not my transmission, but instead the transfer case that is attached to the transmission. The transfer case, well, transfers power, between the front and rear axles for all wheel drive. Marcos explained that replacing the transfer case, which is a third of the cost of replacing the transmission, might fix the problem. But he warned me that, sometimes, after replacing the transfer case, they realize the transmission still needs to be replaced. I was cautiously hopeful, but still prepared for the worst. In just two days, Marcos replaced the transfer case, did a full tune-up of the existing transmission, as well as some other severely needed maintenance, and turned my vehicle over to me working perfectly. No need for a new transmission! What??!!? Marcos could have told me I needed a new transmission, and I would have believed him. It is extremely evident that Marcos is extraordinarily trustworthy - he will do a careful diagnostic review of your vehicle, carefully explain exactly what is wrong based on his expertise and experience, and will only repair or replace what is necessary. The cost of his work is very fairly priced. He works fast. He takes great pride in the high quality of his work. He has integrity. What more could you possibly hope for? Thank you, Marcos. You are awesome!

I brought my car in due to an intermittent gear slipping issue, which I had already traced to a solenoid problem--a very common issue with my Pontiac G6. The symptoms only occurred twice, very briefly. My check engine light came on both times but turned off on its own. I was still able to drive the car on the freeway at full speed with no issues. The problem only showed up during city stop-and-go traffic. I specifically asked if they could just replace the solenoid, and was told no. Instead, I was told I "only had gears 1 and 2" and that I'd need a $4,800 transmission rebuild--which is objectively false, as I literally drove the car 70+ mph on the freeway both before and after leaving the shop. My engine light was off before coming to the shop, turned on once at the shop, then turned back off shortly after leaving. There is no way my car had only gears 1 & 2 I know what that feels like as it happened twice briefly. So to say this to me is insane. Mind you wouldn't have been able to go more than 25 with out the car struggling they must have assumed I don't know a thing about cars. Possibly because I'm a woman and I went alone. They also claimed the solenoid was too difficult to access without replacing the computer and warned me about my car's mileage, as if that meant it wasn't worth fixing. But then, on my way out, they admitted it's a "really great car" and "this is the only issue." It felt manipulative. I decided to trust my gut, went to a different shop, and had the solenoid replaced--and now my car runs perfectly fine. No rebuild needed. If I hadn't known what I was talking about, they would've gladly let me spend thousands on a completely unnecessary repair. Trust yourself. Do your research. Don't let fear-based upselling push you into something you don't need. Also from reading the reviews it sounds like the routinely tell their customers they need a rebuild and successfully do the rebuild. (more than likely something very easily replaceable) However a good transmission shop doesn't just rebuild, they properly and honestly diagnose and repair. He also tried selling me cars on the way out. Notice how he hasn't replied to this yelp review and also told me he feels bad for me in the text? Very unprofessional I don't need your pitty I needed honesty which I didn't get from this shop. He also told me don't buy a used car you can't guarantee you won't have problems it's best if you fix this one with us. Also told me not to go to another shop because id want a local shop lol

I asked if I can come in ASAP and the guy I was talking to, I believe his name is Hasib, said to drop by anytime. I came by after work, Friday 4:30PM. I settled on getting one of their already-rebuilt transmissions installed, as long as I give them the current beat-up one that was already on my car, I said yes of course because what will I do with a bad transmission sitting in my garage lol My car was ready Sunday afternoon, ready to go to work for Monday. I've only driven it today, and there is a night and day difference, it feels like a new car! No more slipping accompanied with the screeching grinding...thank god. I've already recommended these to the people at work who have heard how my car used to sound, downside is they only work on Honda's currently, but they did mention once they start growing they will expand into other brands of cars. Will definitely be using them again if myself or family needs work, luckily half our cars are Honda! Really glad I found this shop, I did find out its family owned and operated, a father and his two sons, starting up a business on what they enjoy doing, and doing a Hell of a good job at the same time. Thanks for the help, guys!

I called a few places and the estimate given to me is costing more than the value of my car. I found Pristine Transmission on Craigslist. I spoke to the owner over the phone twice and I visited the shop twice. I was able to meet the owner on my second visit. His name is Rasul. Every review that I read has his name wrong. Rasul explained to me why Honda/Acura transmission would fail after certain mileage. He actually had a few transmissions sitting on the work bench and he explained to me how he rebuilds transmission. I am 100% sold at that time. When I picked up my car, Rasul told me that he replaced one of the engine mount because he noticed the one near the back was crack. He also attempt to rotate the tires but found out all four tires where the inner edge is peeling and advised me to take them back to the tire shop. There is no cost to me for the extra work. I waited two weeks before writing this review. Just want to say - thank you.

After I told him my make and model, he suggested I pick up a replacement headlight bulb just in case and told me to come in anytime--no appointment needed. When I arrived, he immediately came out, had me open the hood, and took a look on the spot. Within less than 3 minutes, he had the new bulb installed and working perfectly. What really stood out was what happened next--I asked how much I owed him, and he told me there was no charge. That level of honesty and kindness is rare these days. John didn't try to upsell me, didn't waste my time, and didn't treat a small job like it wasn't worth his attention. He handled it with professionalism, efficiency, and genuine care. Because of that, Doral Auto Repair has earned my trust. The next time I need any work done on my car, this is exactly where I'm going. Highly recommend.

Rating: (1 Star) I…read moreused Yelp's "Get a Quote" feature expecting a straightforward price estimate. Instead of receiving a quote, I got what appeared to be an automated response telling me to "come in." The message looked scripted and didn't address the request for pricing at all. After I replied again asking for the quote Yelp indicates businesses will provide, the same scripted response was essentially copied and pasted back to me. Only after pushing further did I receive what seemed like a more direct reply stating that their insurance does not allow customer-supplied parts due to liability concerns, followed by a note that they offer a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. That explanation would have been fine if it had been stated clearly from the beginning, instead of sending automated responses that avoided the actual request. Consumer Education: When repair shops purchase parts, they typically buy them at wholesale cost and then apply their own markup in addition to the shop's labor rate. There's nothing inherently wrong with making a profit--every business should. However, when customers ask for a quote while supplying their own parts, it can reduce that margin. Based on more than 20 years in automotive retail management and sales, my personal conclusion is that some shops simply prefer not to quote jobs where their parts markup isn't included. The bigger issue here is the Yelp listing itself. Yelp allows customers to input the vehicle, describe the work needed, and press "Get a Quote." If a shop isn't willing to provide quotes--or only wants customers to come in--then that option probably shouldn't appear on their listing, because it creates a misleading expectation for consumers trying to comparison shop first.
