True Value hardware & outdoor Power Equip - One of the "new spindles" they charged me for over 150$

Unbelievable!! I'm shocked this shop is still in business…read more I am a pharmacist of 8 years now, grew up with parents who run a few small businesses and let me tell you.. my experience with this place has been nothing short of a nightmare. I purchased what was supposed to be a "deal of a lifetime"--a 2006 Dixie Chopper for $3,000 out the door. It had a new motor and seemed like a great buy at first. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a disaster. The owner, Gary, presents himself as the nicest guy, but it's all an act. Be cautious--he'll say anything to make a sale. Always get everything in writing because if you don't, you'll end up paying far more than you expect. In my case, I was misled into paying for repairs on issues that should have been addressed before the mower was sold. Here's my story: Gary made grandiose claims about the mower, saying things like, "This mower retails for over $16,000,"(I've had it listed on FB Marketplace for $3900 for months now and no bites, and there are several newer models on there for less money). "You'll never ride a better mower," and "You'll be overjoyed with this machine." Excited, we bought it, but my excitement quickly faded. * Day one: I turned on the blades and immediately noticed a loud, harsh vibration. Upon inspection, I found the spindles were rusted out (I have photos to prove it added below). * Day two: The mower wouldn't start. The shop came to pick it up, but even they struggled to get it running. Weeks passed while they claimed to be troubleshooting a wiring issue. They eventually installed a relay switch. * I also reported the spindle problem, but Gary brushed it off as "just surface rust" and said they had already been inspected. After pressing him, I offered to buy new spindles myself for $150. Gary assured me they'd handle it. A week later, he admitted one or more spindles was completely destroyed and it's good thing they replaced them. (See pics of before and after below, you can barely tell which is which). Repairs dragged on for weeks. Every time I called, there was a new issue: belts, pulleys, you name it. When they finally delivered the mower back to me, I assumed the repairs were covered given that I had received no quote and had purchased a mower they claimed was in good condition. Imagine my shock when I got a voicemail a month later from Gary saying I owed $935! They never provided an estimate, never sought my approval for repairs, never gave me an itemized receipt, and were clearly charging me for problems they should have resolved before selling the mower. When I asked for a refund, Gary claimed they didn't have the money but offered to sell the mower on their lot. After months of no progress, I confronted him. Suddenly, he claimed he had given me a quote (he hadn't) and that the $935 was for spindles and labor-- see pictures below also, obviously he put used spindles on it and charged as much as he could. To make matters worse, he told me he had a buyer lined up for $6,200 but would only give me $3,000 of it. Frustrated, I had to let him charge my card just to retrieve my mower, fearing he'd sell it to someone else out of spite. When I asked AGAIN for an itemized receipt, he provided me with a piece of paper that had clearly been hand written right then (no invoice). Even more interesting is it's now been a week since and magically he hasn't called with the "interested buyers" information. This shop is beyond unprofessional. They sold me a broken mower, mishandled repairs, charged me without consent, and failed to take responsibility for their mistakes. Avoid this place at all costs! If you go make sure it is in writing before you give them anything, with prices confirmed and agreed upon.

I get it! over 60$ lost a customer of over 10 years if I can add pictures of my unfinsihed project! stay away! and I'll send pics of the new pressure washer I'm buying, so if you want to avoid my mistakes you can just go buy your own!

They refuse to open a new bundle of wood in order for me to obtain nice, straight wood. I had a 16' deck I wanted to build, and I could not get enough 2x6's that were straight and defect free for the visible areas. For the price I would have paid, I expected good lumber for the visible areas. I could deal with the defects for the parts that wouldn't be seen. So I left the wood there and went elsewhere where I knew I could get enough staight wood for the visible areas. The second time I went the for another project, I wanted to purchase 300' of 3/4" PVC. This was during COVID. The sales associate wanted to mock me for "hoarding" pipe. I said something to one of the managers and he didn't care. Again, I just left the pipe there and went elsewhere. At a company I used to work for, we had three pallets of solar salt delivered. There were a few ripped bags. Lowe's policy is to write on the back what was wrong, the company I worked for, there policy was to write it on the front of the bill. The driver cussed me out for not following Lowe's policy. I do not work for Lowe's, but at the time UF Facilities Services. Whose policy do you think I will follow? My manager called the manager at Lowe's who just didn't care. I wanted to purchase a DeWalt grinder, found a better price on Amazon. Went to Lowe's to try to get a price match on the same exact item. They refused, saying they don't compete with Amazon. Avoid the Lowe's at all costs. Customer service is lacking, and the prices they want for less than desirable wood is ridiculous.

The employee treated us like we were trying to steal it. He leaned on it the whole time and got in my personal space when he finally did let me hold it. He treated us like we were going to steal it because we couldn't afford it. Also he didn't believe me when I asked about a military discount. If it hadn't been so close to Christmas and had of had time I would have went somewhere else. I will never go back there unless I just don't have a choice. It made me feel humiliated. Heck I even worked for a Home Depot in clay when I was younger so... nostalgia, but nah no more. I wish I remember the employees name but unfortunately I don't.
