I love that they have so many interesting non-dairy flavors that they rotate through. I tried the peach melba oat milk ice cream on a waffle cone. The texture was almost closer to sorbet than ice cream, which was fine but not what I was expecting. The flavor was great though - the peach base and black raspberry ripple were very tart and juicy which balanced out the sweetness. The small size is 2 generous scoops which was plenty for me. The waffle cone was also very good, tasted fresh. The person who took my order and scooped my ice cream was nice and checked to make sure that I knew the peach melba was non-dairy since I didn't specify. Wow now that's a sundae! We took a day trip to Bloomington and stumbled upon Bruster's. The line was manageable and gave us time to ask locals their favorites. I chose the turtle sundae with butter pecan ice cream. I requested no whipped cream. The staff was friendly and efficient. And the Ice cream was amazing. We sat on the benches and enjoyed our treat. A very nice ice cream spot at the intersection of State Rd 46, a.k.a. E 3rd St and State Rd 446. If you're going north on 446, its a real convenient stop, just go straight into their parking light when the light turns green. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of parking available and only one ahead of us in line to order. Their ice ream is really creamy and smooth. Even better they make their own waffle cones. The smell drifting out of the order window was heavenly! The better half got a waffle cone and loved it. There was a mix up on my order and the staff person was very accommodating and nice. I will stop in here every time I drive by. I do wish there was more out door seating and even tables available, but I do see how small their lot size is. Good thing there is quite the distance between Bruster's and me or I can be in real trouble. After we finished up a pontoon boat day on Lake Monroe it was clearly time to find some ice cream. Well, Bruster's found us. We were just driving home and ahhhh it was straight ahead of us. Meant to be, obviously. Just a little walk up to the window and order an ice cream shop. The lemon blueberry cake icecream is life giving. The perfect blend of lemon and blueberry with neither flavor overpowering the other. Pieces of cake blended throughout. Top it off with the homemade waffle cone and you have yourself a real treat. This is like ice cream you ask your friend who lives in Bloomington to pick you up some for your next visit kind of ice cream. I really should come to Bruster's more often because I'm in walking distance. The first time I tried Bruster's was to order my boyfriend a birthday cake. I ended up going with a Bruster's Pie (Your choice of fresh Bruster's Ice Cream over a thick, rich layer of fudge, caramel, marshmallow, or your favorite topping. All nestled in your choice of Oreo® or Graham Cracker Crust!) I gave them a quick call and it was ready to pick up when I needed it. The mint ice cream cake with oreo crust was solid. Great piping work on the lettering too. I came back most recently because of the great BOGO coupon mailers. I got trusty mint and their coffee chip. The latter is no Ben & Jerry's Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz, but it's so much more affordable! A regular scoop is HUGE and the scooper told me I could get as many flavors as I wanted (really? lol.) I haven't been to a Bruster's ice cream store for almost twenty years and was bribed appropriately by free ice cream. We took home a pint of sugar free ice cream and indulged at the store. This is one of the few stores where they make their ice cream daily. I remember the preschool in Bridgeville going over to watch them make fresh ice cream. If you know me, you know how much I love Jiffy Treet, especially the black raspberry ice cream, and I just have to say--Bruster's honestly gives them a run for their money. Their black raspberry ice cream is wonderful. It tastes very fresh and the flavor of the fruit is very strong. The ice cream has a very dense texture and is free of air pockets. The sizes here are quite large. If getting a waffle cone, I would certainly recommend a small if you aren't famished. Directly across from where SR 46 heads south to Lake Monroe (SR 446) there is an ice cream shop, so I decided to make a quick stop. They have a walk up window with all the options and flavors posted inside the neighboring windows, so I stood back and reviewed the options. I decided I'd go with a cup instead of one of their cone/waffle bowl options and grab a single scoop of Chocolate Raspberry Truffle ice cream. I was pleased that the scoop was under $3 but also realized that the scoop didn't fill the cup. So, it was the smaller serving size that kept the price so low. The ice cream was soft and just a little melted, but still cold enough that it didn't puddle in the bottom. The amount of raspberry sauce was generous and well distributed throughout the ice cream. There were also some crisp chocolate bits inside the chocolate cream as well. Good flavor, good price, maybe not so appealing to look at since it wasn't as cold as other places I've tried. Honestly, I'm very disappointed about my ice cream today. Last visit, I got the homemade scoops of ice cream but this time, my boyfriend and I both got a blast (which is like a Blizzard). I'm not sure if the ice cream machine just wasn't ready because it was 11 am, but the blast's consistency was more shake like. I got a blast with Oreo and m&m's, but it was more like Oreo ice cream with mini m&m's at the bottom of the 22 oz cup. There were no Oreo cookie chunks, but you could definitely tell that it was Oreo ice cream. The most disappointing part was all the mini m&m's at the bottom. I don't know if it just wasn't mixed well or what. My boyfriend said that all of his cookie dough and Reese's were at the bottom too. He said that he didn't mind that part so much, but the shake-like consistency was what was bothering him. On another note, due to the Covid-19 there are signs saying that people should stand 6 feet apart, and the employees were wearing gloves. I recently worked a couple of days at a restaurant, I wore gloves and a mask; it was awful. The sweat and heat made my masked face and gloved hands break out, so I don't judge anyone for whatever PPE they want to wear. read more

Amazed that I have not yet reviewed Bruster's. It's one of my favorite ice cream shops in Bloomington. The ice cream is high quality and delicious with a great variety of inventive flavors. The location on the far East side of town is not exactly great unless you are heading to or from Monroe Lake or Brown County, but it's worth going out of your way for. The customer service is great, always pleasant. They have an excellent phone app that awards frequent buyers and they give you a free cone on your birthday. Today was "PJ" day at Bruster's, so if you showed up in your pajamas you got a free two-scoop waffle cone. Not only was the ice cream cone excellent (chocolate coconut almond) but the people watching was fantastic! Two thumbs up. read more

My wife loved Carmel apple crunch and pumpkin. I loved the pumpkin but it is more nutmeg notes than some might like. Excellent parking lot. Looks like it's been here a long while and stayed busy even on a Sunday. Generous dips. Value for the money. Benches and picnic tables. No indoor dining. I love this ice cream spot. Every time I go to brown county during the summer I always make sure I stop by this place. They have a variety of ice cream treats and I recommend Bloomington visitors to give it a try. Only reason for the 4 star is because of their banana split, I'm not used to their version of it yet. Always a treat! Bruster's is one of those places you drive past and if they don't have a line, it's hard to convince yourself not to stop (thank goodness it's not on the way to work!). Their ice cream is always fresh, something I've never thought about before but you can't help but notice when eating there. The butter pecan is amazing, as is the pistachio. They are open seasonally (closed from November through most of February) which makes it that much more of a treat when you go. read more

Bottom Line: Great, great, and great! We've been here many times as we always stop on our way from Boy Scout Camp. Blusters is a "walk up" type ice cream shop as there is no inside seating. They do have benches outside underneath the trees. They have pretty much any ice cream concoction you can think of and also have various shakes, etc. On this stop, my wife and I shared a strawberry shortcake sundae (I would recommend this as there is no way I could put this down myself as its really big). It was well made and very good. The sundae ran about $6.50. It was a bright sunshiny day in Bloomington. So I did the only sensible thing. I went and had ice cream at Brusters out on the east side of town. Some reason that I do not understand, there are absolutely no ice cream shops on the entire west side of Bloomington. But there are lots of places on the Eastside. What is that all about, anyway? Because of this, whenever I have ice cream, I always feel a twinge of sadness in my heart for all of you West Side Bloomingtonians. Or is that Bloomingtonites? haha Fortunately, I am always able to quickly supress that sad feeling by eating some Bruster's incredibly delicious, creamy, totally amazing ice cream. It works wonders. I highly recommend it. I just recently made a very nice discovery about Bruster's. You don't have to go there and get a huge, gonzo, thousands of calories ice cream cone. They actually have two different small sizes. I have included a pic of the caramel cheesecake ice cream cone that I got, in what they call the 'baby' size. It costs one dollar! This of course means that you could get 5 different flavors of ice cream for just $5! My favorite summer day includes a trip to lake Monroe followed by a stop for ice cream at Brusters on the way home. They are old school- order at the window and enjoy your ice cream on the benches outside or in your car. Homemade flavors are creative and vary with the season. On my last visit the girl making my ice cream was talking to the other employees instead of actually fulfilling my order resulting in a long wait time, forgotten ingredients, and an unsatisfied customer. I ordered cookies and cream/Oreo cone and what she gave me was chocolate ice cream with Oreos in it. I kindly showed her that the menu cookies and cream ice cream is vanilla with Oreos but she insisted that I was wrong and refused to give me the correct ice cream.
