Fast forward two years later, only to find out that the root canal I had performed was not done correctly. After seeing an endontist and two other specialists, I was informed that the post was put THROUGH my tooth and was sticking into my jaw. (please see the photo of the xray taken) As of yesterday, 11/12/2014, the tooth was removed, and a bone graft was put in place. What should have been a simple procedure is now going to cost nearly $5500. As I sat there yesterday, looking at the tooth with the hole right through it, it saddened me to know that I walked away from there and was not informed of the mistake the day that it occurred. I can only hope that other patients take great caution with their trust.

Dr. Amin and Smile Obsession is a private practice and NOT a corporate machine. This matters because any clinician (dentist, physician, psychotherapist) who has a private practice is more likely to be able to put ethical patient care as the top priority, rather than extra x-rays or tests to pad their billing and charge you more like a corporate model. I experienced that corporate mentality at another dental practice and that is why I left and chose Smile Obsession. Dr. Amin is very kind, grew up in the Chicago area, and returned here after dental school at UCLA. I was impressed that he was willing to leave that California sunshine to come back to Illinois. I had been coming to Dr. Barnes for 10 years. Several incidents recently caused me to seek another…read moredental practice. 1) I had a change in my bite so significant that I could no longer whistle. It coincided with the start of wearing CPAP headgear for sleep apnea. I brought in the appliance. He would not look at it on my head saying it is not possible. I also brought a cast of my teeth from a few years prior to compare- he refused to look at it saying it wasn't necessary. (My new dentist identified that many people experience a change in byte with the onset of therapy) 2) I complained that there was a gap between teeth that smelled bad when flossing. He didn't X-ray the area. Instead he said, "he had one of those, too". (The new dentist used 3D xRay and found the source of the problem: a broken filling blocking the space between the teeth.) 3) In The summer of 2020 I had tooth pain and was headed to a remote location for a week and was concerned that it might get worse. Dr. Barnes was out of the office but referred me to an endodontist. Dr. Barnes never called afterwards to follow up that I was OK after he returned. 4) Dr. Barnes has not invested in any digital x-ray imaging stating other dentists are "lazy relying on it". The new equipment has so much less radiation that dental assistants don't even need to leave the room and they only place the lead apron on patients as they have come to expect it. (The new dentist identified 2 teeth that need root canals- I will continue to wonder if I wouldn't need this expensive intervention if caught earlier by Dr. Barnes.

I know when she's nervous, and I know she's got that "white coat syndrome" that so many kids (and adults) face. When we arrived at Wheaton Prarie Dental, I could almost HEAR her heart beating faster. So I made sure to act calm and collected as we approached the front door. Once her name was called, I was surprised she didn't run out the door right then and there. But Lindsey, the hygienist, greeted her with a smile and made sure she was comfortable in The Chair. And that's when I knew my kid wasn't scared anymore. She was definitely relaxed, and this was WITHOUT the gas mask! After Lindsey did the routine xray and whatnot, we met Dr Colella. He, too, greeted her with a smile and had a good talk with her. He acted as if he was just a friend who she hadn't seen in a while. He explained that he was just going to check and make sure everything was going well and even got excited when discovering there was a FIRST LOOSE TOOTH present! At the end of the exam, he gave us a bag full of goodies which of course any kid would love. The staff here is great and despite it being on a relatively busy street, the location is great. Parking is easy and there's a lot to do to pass time if you've got to wait a while for your significant other or kid during a long visit. Our routine visit, however, was quick - something I appreciate as a busy mom. Overall I'm happy to have found a dentist/dental office that I can trust, and one that my kids will trust as well. We all know dental visits are scary. This place isn't scary. =)

BUT when i leave and talk to Tracy she isnt a pleasant person to deal with and very unfriendly unwelcoming "give me your money and get out".When it should be about how did everything go ?How was your visit?There is many Dentist around town where everyone is nice and not look at you as a payment and get out. That customer relationships are key. Tracy doesnt belong in the field of customer service.This is the main reason why many people like my self wont be going back because of people like Tracy. I have been going here for years and its always the same with her but i will not be returning until this changes.
