We are deeply grateful to the entire team at Scarborough Animal Hospital for the compassion,…read moreurgency, and professionalism they showed during one of the most heartbreaking experiences we've ever faced with our cat, Bowie. We brought Bowie in after only six days of having him due to concern for urinary issues. From our perspective, he had been symptomatic since day one, with frequent urination despite otherwise appearing like a bright, healthy boy and eating his prescription diet. We had also been repeatedly requesting his full medical records from the shelter we adopted him from, but did not receive them until the day we rushed him in for evaluation and further care. At his appointment, the team immediately identified an emergent urinary blockage on assessment and acted quickly. It was only then that we were able to fully comprehend his medical history from the shelter records, which revealed severe and complex prior issues including FIC, two recent urinary blockages requiring surgical intervention, complications from repeated catheter removal and internal trauma, and other significant health concerns that we had not been informed of prior to adoption. We had initially hoped we might be able to discuss elective PU surgery to prevent future issues, but it quickly became clear this was an emergency situation and he was already blocked. After thorough discussion with the veterinary team, we were advised that Bowie's condition was extremely serious and would require a third unblocking procedure and eventual PU surgery if he became stable enough after the initial medical treatment. Even with intervention, he would remain at high risk for recurrence and ongoing medical complexity that would decrease his quality of life and raise the question of euthanasia. In light of his condition and prognosis, we made the devastating decision to medically surrender Bowie so he could receive continued emergency treatment. The hospital proceeded with his care pro-bono following the surrender, which we will always be profoundly thankful for. Despite the devastating circumstances, the entire team treated us with compassion, honesty, and without judgment. They focused entirely on what was best for Bowie, and made an unbearable situation feel supported and dignified. We are especially thankful for Dr. Sara Gould and Dr. Sabrina Williams and their expertise, clear communication, and extraordinary compassion throughout this process. We will always be thankful that Bowie was met with such care and dignity in his medical journey, and for the humanity this team showed us during an incredibly painful goodbye. They are truly angels and I am forever grateful they were able to help my beautiful boy. We love you, Bowie.

However, during the visit they recommended (rightfully) I vaccinate my dog for Lyme. Did it without hesitation, and paid the $78 fee. I asked (note: it was NEVER offered) for a copy of the invoice for the visit. I noticed there was a charge ($0) for a Lyme booster shot to be administered in 3/4 weeks. I confirmed with the front desk this meant the cost of the booster was $0, and thus included in the $78 charge. They confirmed. This invoice is the first picture. I asked to make the follow up appointment, they told me they would call me to do so. Weird, but fine. I did not hear from them for 3 weeks. I finally did and scheduled the follow up, which was only for the booster shot. I took my dog in for the booster and, after ~5 minutes, they told me my dog would not allow them to give her the shot. I would need to come back later. I told them I would like to be there if they'd be willing to try once more, and they obliged. When I went back there, no issue and vaccine was administered quickly. Again, weird, but fine - I know my dog is anxious. I begin to leave and am stopped by the desk to pay. I asked for clarification - I understood this visit to be included in my last payment? The receptionist reviews my old invoice and calls over (what I assume to be..) her supervisor. The supervisor takes a brief look at my invoice and says no, the charge wasn't included, and it is a pay as you go system. I ask again, and explain I had explicitly been told the cost of the booster was included on the last invoice because it was $0. The supervisor dismisses this comment, and repeats again it's "pay as you go" and the line item was included "as a reminder." Uhh, what? There is a whole section for reminders on the original invoice (as you can see in the screenshot)...the booster was included as an invoiced line item. Seeing I'm getting nowhere, I give in and pay it. Expect instead of $78, I am charged $104. What?!?! Again, I am not offered a receipt. I ask for the invoice (attached as 2nd picture). I am charged for the full dose (nothing to indicate it is the 'booster'), a $7 fee (?), and $24 for an exam. I push back - there was no exam. The tech tried to give me my dog back and turn me away after ~5 minutes. Had I not advocated for myself and my dog, we would've been turned away without even receiving the vaccine. This was worth a $24 charge? The supervisor shrugged and said "it's a charge for the tech's time." Okay, lol I have never been so blatantly ripped off by any vet or other care professional. If I had expected to pay double for the booster, fine, but I was explicitly told it was included. There was absolutely no expression of apology for the miscommunication, or explanation as to why it was included in the original invoice. After talking to friends and coworkers with pets about my experience, they've assured me this is NOT normal and recommended me to their vets. I will not be returning, and recommend you don't either. The vet himself was nice, as were the vet techs I worked with. But I find the business practices incredibly concerning. I'll be sharing elsewhere, too.

Sadly, Dr. Michelle Maloney is great with animals, yet terrible with their caretakers. Luckily…read morethere are more, balanced, consistent and professional providers in Maine. Despite the fact that there is no "cancellation" or "rescheduling" policy on Dr. Maloney's website for "The Pets Mobile Vet", and most vets allow up to 24hrs, I allotted 48hrs to notify her of my need to "postpone" my cats checkups, hoping for whatever slot might be available at a later date. Therefore, I contacted Dr Maloney on Monday 6/8/20 to reschedule an appointment that was coming up on Wednesday (48hrs) 6/10/20, due to another conflicting obligation. She responded with a less than unprofessional, uncivil text. Down right self-centered and rude. See attached: Dr.Maloney in grey and mine are in green. Hence, I will take my animals and money elsewhere.... and you should consider doing the same or also encounter Dr. Maloney's unmerited and misdirected anger problem. No "Thank You", life is too short to deal with Ms "Hyde".

The staff promptly opened an appointment for me w/i (1 1/2) hours of opening. Upon arrival, I was checked in immediately and saw a Med Tech w/i minutes. The Vet saw me w/i (10) minutes. My pooch received his meds, antibiotics, a cleaning of his infection, and the cone of shame. ;) The staff is prompt, kind and definitely animal lovers! If I ever have an emergency again, THIS is the Urgent Care Office I will return too. Thank you PetMedic, Freeport for looking out for us!

I called Pet Medic because they were the closest emergency service to us and had excellent reviews. I called at 5:30 even though they close at 7 on Sundays just in case they could at least give us a painkiller till we could get into a vet on Monday. Jody said they couldn't see us till the next day but asked the vet if there was anything they could do for us in the meantime. Then she told us that they would squeeze us in if we could be there by 7. And they did. Not only did they see us, but 3 of the staff stayed until we were done at 9:30 - on a Sunday. Amazing place - just what we hope for in an emergency.

It's hard for me to comprehend that this is what veterinary care has come to…read more I arrived at their door at approximately 2 PM with my German Shorthaired Pointer who had 30 minutes prior encountered a porcupine and suffered the resulting mouth full of quills and obvious stress and discomfort. The response from the vet was "we're just about to start our afternoon procedures and can't help". Stunned I asked "really, she has a mouth full of quills"... the reply: "we're sorry" I then drove another 25 minutes to the vet on Falmouth Foreside who admitted us and after administering a mild sedative removed the quills and discharged my pup 30 minutes later. I would never recommend Cumberland Animal Clinic to anyone. Hopefully the vet didn't have too hard a day and got home on time. Again, is this what small animal veterinary care has become?

They have often been able to squeeze me in last minute when necessary, I have never had to wait past my scheduled appointment time, the office is immaculate, and Dr. Lucas especially has gone above and beyond for me as veterinarian. My dog absolutely adores it there; there is no place he is more excited to be. This excitement results in a rather naughty, licky, and rambunctious pup, but the people at CAC love him anyway, handling his energy with compassion and skill. I feel that my dog recieves the best care possible, and that I am treated with fairness, kindness, and respect. After receiving treatment at CAC, I always receive a follow up call to check on my dog's progress. Una's medical care is better than my own! They discharged me from their services due to a mistake they made. I was kind, only questioned the…read morebill but paid immediately. In their ban letter they claimed things that were not true. They did not tell me the cost upfront and when I questioned it management said that I should let them know how much money I have when I come in instead of them telling me what things cost before they do them. That felt offensive to me. Beware when dealing with management and always ask for detailed cost upfront. Ultimately, my advice is to go somewhere else. I have read other reviews like this about them so I guess I'm not the only one, I agree with Joseph O, very similar experience.

What a great group of friendly vets and techs…read more These folks don't pressure you into unnecessary tests, they really just want your animal friends to be happy and healthy. They are also less expensive (most likely due to location) then my previous veterinary clinic in Portland, Brackett St. When you have 4 pets, like I do, the additional money for a check up tends to add up. The interactions I've had with these vets are amazing. Most recently, my dog needed a tumor removed. On the day of the surgery they found an issue with the rhythm of her heart. They stopped, decided to wait and give her a round of antibiotics, and are doing a less invasive round of anesthesia as they move forward. I couldn't have been happier with the way these folks handled my pets and their care. I wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone to drive to get to these folks.
