Called their office today to express concerns about Fat Kitty's urine habits over the last week. I'm sure I sounded like an idiot but Sierra (I believe was her name) answered the call with such compassion and understanding. She made me feel like I did the right thing calling while also letting me know it didn't sound like an emergency. She pulled up the file quickly and was able to speak knowledgeably about a pet she may not know personally, such really speaks to the entire office's notation habits. She offered to have the doctor look over the notes and call me back with any action items. But as someone who is just watching someone else's beloved animal, I am TERRIFIED I'm doing something wrong as a non cat owner and Sierra not only made me feel so much better, she made me feel like the whole office knows this pet and cares about Fat Kitty's well being. I could not ask for a better customer interaction nor a more pleasant ending from what I was worried was a potentially hazardous experience. Thank you so much!

We used Freeport Vet for 13 years for our German Shepherd…read moreThe care we received was always top quality and the staff was always caring and helpful. Our dog was diagnosed with cancer and declined rapidly, which was heartbreaking for us. Dr. Radding and her staff assisted with us with medicines to extend our dog's life and make him more comfortable. When the time came to make the toughest of decisions and send our dog to heaven the level of care he received was more than we could have ever ask for. Dr Radding made what is a terrible experience as calm and gentle as possible. She clearly cares for both the animal and the owner's needs. When the time comes for us to get another pet there is no doubt where we will go for Vet services, we will return to Freeport Vet and Dr. Radding and staff.

If you leave a phone message, or email, or reach out through any other available means, maybe they'll get back to you, but maybe they won't. Same day urgent care advertised prominently. In reality, availability is iffy. This is not a one visit, bad day experience. It's repeated behavior over the course of numerous interactions. Looks like the vast majority of positive reviews are old - before Compass Group Equity Partners took over? I gave up on them. This is not a safe place to take your pet.

Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine

Short story: go here; great medical staff, but prepare for really subpar customer service staff…read more We were vacationing in Maine and our dachshund collapsed in the backyard. It was close to 5PM, so we chose to wait for this clinic to open rather than driving to Portland or Scarborough. We arrived at 4:50 and waited outside the front door, which was locked. The receptionist was manning the desk and repeatedly clearly saw us through the glass doors, including making eye contact with my husband, but never came over to let us in, even though my husband was holding our dachshund, I was holding our three-month-old baby in her car seat, and it was 17 degrees and dark outside. At 4:57 the receptionist disappeared into the back and at 5:02 I finally called, a tech answered, apologized, and she rushed to let us in. As we were walking in, I heard the receptionist complaining, "it's only just 5:00 now." Nope. It was 5 after at that point, but more importantly, who leaves people with a sick dog and a baby out in the cold, especially if you're supposed to be in the animal CARE business?! Fortunately, the tech and the vet we worked with were terrific, and our dog is going to be fine. I really appreciated the tech's compassion and attention to detail, and the vet's candor and patience with questions (and the baby!). When we were checking out, a poor woman was dropping off her deceased bearded dragon for cremation. The receptionist couldn't have cared less. She was cold and dismissive and passed the box containing the body off to the tech carelessly, and loudly said "group cremation," in a completely empty tone, then charged the woman and said, "we're ready for Skippy" without even dismissing the other woman. The tech called out, "I'm sorry for your loss!" from the back as the woman left. My husband saw her crying in her car in the parking lot when he brought our dog out to the car. So, based on my limited experience, I'd say go here for good care, but prepare to be treated like a complete annoyance by the woman at the front desk.

Stay away. Far FAR away. Also, don't ask any questions even when given inaccurate information. Dr…read morewas INCREDIBLY condescending, dismissive, and rude. I brought my pup in at 3 am because of crying most of the night. He does have a known UTI with struvite crystals and a urine pH of 9. At first she wanted to do an x ray and ultrasound to look for stones. Uhh. Ultrasound would've seen both. No need for the xray. I nicely suggested starting with the ultrasound. ANYTIME I tried at all to advocate for my pup, I got attitude and talked to as if I knew absolutely nothing. I also asked if she could prescribe something to lower the urinary pH, as that would be a double approach to help resolve the infection. She threw her hands up, claimed that my asking questions and seeking clarification was "abusive" and "she's not taking that at 3 am" It's basic infection cycle. Interrupt the cycle at as many points as you can, get quicker resolve. If you need emergent care, steer clear of this place. Go right to Portland. Like she suggested we should've. First time here, and absolutely will NEVER be back nor recommend ANYONE else. Imagine claiming someone's being abusive because they don't want to answer questions as to their thought process in the care of your animal. Absolutely insane

He was so sweet and caring and thoughtful to our sadness. A few days later, we recieved a beautiful card expressing his sadness for us. Unbelievably bad experience. Just seconds after Dr. Lebouf delivered the devastating news that my…read moregirl had terminal bone cancer, she launched into a self-righteous lecture about the dangers of grain-free diets. She quoted studies and strongly implied that my feeding choices had caused or contributed to her demise. She even added, "I know it's too late for B, but I know you have another dog and want to protect them." I was too overwhelmed by grief and tears to respond in the moment, but several things went through my mind: * I have no idea why she assumed B was on a grain-free diet. Not even true * This is classic "blame-shifting" but why? * There is no chance shelf stable slop pellets have better outcomes for animals than fresh food diets, I suspected whatever study she referring is going to be about pulse diets, where food slop companies swap out rice for anti-nutrients like chickpeas (terrible for dogs and actually leech nutrients, mostly indigestible). When they asked about her diet, I believe I just said "mostly home made - fresh meat and vegetables." I never said I gave them grain free kibble. I feed my dogs a balanced fresh-food diet (meats, vegetables, and rice in proper ratios, with age- and condition-specific supplements) about 80% of the time. When I can't prepare fresh meals, they get premium kibble (that contains rice), mixed with high-quality wet food. There is zero evidence in the scientific literature comparing a properly balanced fresh diet to commercial kibble. The studies Dr. Lebouf referenced appear to be the familiar ones comparing grain-inclusive kibble to "grain-free" kibble formulas that simply replace grains with pulses and legumes. That is not the same as comparing fresh food to kibble, and it is misleading to present it that way. Earlier this year I brought B in after she suddenly started limping in pain. They diagnosed arthritis and a soft tissue injury, charged $500 for imaging, and sent us home with pain medication. It's hard not to wonder whether the cancer was missed at that visit, considering it was in the exact location. B was a rescue who had endured severe abuse and malnutrition in her early years. She arrived terrified of everyone, trembling and submissive. For some reason she chose to trust me. Within a year she had visibly grown, gained confidence, and become the sweetest, most loving dog. She wasn't supposed to be mine forever, but we became inseparable. Losing her has been heartbreaking. I waited a long time before writing this review. I didn't want it to come purely from grief or anger. I understand that cancer can be difficult to catch, and I wouldn't be writing this if the only issue had been a missed diagnosis. I'm writing because of the condescending, sanctimonious way Dr. Lebouf spoke to me during this moment. She quoted science in a misleading way - I believe - because she either didn't actually read it or doesn't understand what it says. To be clear - there are NO STUDIES comparing grain free fresh food diets to kibble with grains. But this is how it was framed as if gospel. It was so inappropriate, but also inaccurate. I can only assume this is being preached repeatedly to other pet parents at the clinic. Many other staff members at the clinic are genuinely kind and great with animals.
