My family has been going to Dr. Brunson for over ten years now. Dr. Brunson and his staff are very professional, thoughtful, and friendly. There is little staff change, either. This past weekend, Dr. Brunson went above and beyond to help me avert a dental crisis. On a Friday around 3:30pm, a top front tooth veneer popped off. I was leaving on a two-week-vacation the next morning and really needed it fixed that night. Dr. Brunson answered my emergency text within minutes and agreed to meet me at the office to reseat the veneer. I am so very thankful!! read more

82-year olds don't much cotton to change. And it doesn't really matter what you think of their new dentist. It's what THEY think that matters. My dad has really warmed up to Dr. Brunson. I think he knows that he can trust him as much as I have come to, and that Dr. Brunson exists solely to provide good dental care. In fact my dad and Dr. Brunson are to the point now where they make jokes to each other. It's so good to see a dentist put a smile on my dad's face instead of a ton of metal in his mouth. Dad and I always get back-to-back hygiene appointments, so we toss a coin to see which of us goes first. He got the 7:20 this time and I took the 8:20. The hygienist was done with him just in time for dad's 8:00 medication, which took a lot of worry off the table during my cleaning appointment. As a ten-year, maybe 11-year patient, I can't imagine going anywhere else. I've grown up attending Brunson Dental and have developed excellent relationships with every staff member. They all are genuinely there to make the dentist experience less anxiety-inducing and more comforting. Tasha at the front desk is on par with Wonder Woman in my book. With my mental health struggles, I have never felt like a burden for not being fit to show up to appointments. Now, I don't endorse just choosing not to go, but sometimes anxiety takes the upper hand. Tasha and the staff are incredibly accommodating and understanding. So much so that you don't feel punished like most offices tend to use that method, making it difficult to return. read more

I've been going to Dr. Brunson several years and was immediately impressed with his attention to detail and with his motivation to problem solve as needed. I clearly understand why Capital Area Dental Society gave him the Dentist of the Year award two times. I decided to take my 94-year-old mother to Dr. Brunson since I'm confident in his dentistry. He worked carefully with her and gave us several choices of how to proceed with an infected tooth. We chose a denture plan and, when ready, he paid her a "house call" to check its fit and to show her how to take it in and out. I think that speaks for itself, and I would give Dr. Brunson ten stars if I could. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR First, the good: *The office staff is wonderful. The receptionists and dental hygienists were always friendly, courteous and respectful and always worked with me to schedule a convenient time. *The technology. I liked receiving automated text message and email reminders regarding my appointments - very helpful. They always came in plenty of time so that on the rare occasion I needed to re-schedule, I met the requirement of 24 hours notice. The Bad: SHORT VERSION: I got a 2nd opinion and J-Brun went into attack mode. He was reduced to the behavior of a 3 year old and told me that if I didn't trust him, I should find a new dentist. IN DETAIL: Dr Brunson advised me that I had recession along my gums and that I needed to meet with a periodontist. I was told surgery would be the next logical step. Needless to say, this was somewhat disconcerting. Having grown up in a home where my Mother was a CRNA, I knew to always get a second opinion, get educated, learn everything about the condition and be your own best advocate. I did exactly that. I made an appointment with another local dentist. I also made an appointment, in another state, with my Dentist I've been going to since childhood. In other words, I took Dr. Brunson's advice regarding my gums very seriously. This however, proved to be extremely dissatisfying to Dr. Brunson. When I returned to Brunson Dentistry for a routine cleaning, I was asked about the corrective steps I'd taken regarding my last visit. I explained that I consulted a local dentist for a 2nd opinion and that I was going to see my childhood dentist and then weigh a course of action. This was met with an explosion of anger. If you've ever seen a 2 year old throw a temper tantrum where they get angry, red-faced, hostile, and whiny then you've essentially seen the reaction with which I was met. I was rendered apoplectic by Dr. Brunson's bush league reaction and left to wonder: why do I have to explain to a DOCTOR that I want to be well informed? Dr. Brunson first personally attacked the local Austin dentist I'd consulted saying that she had a "unique" way of doing things but that HIS office "believes in science". He also asked how I found her and when I said I'd used a Groupon he hissed: "well that should tell you she's not on top of her game right there!" (While it's true that Forbes and The Wall Street Journal have not yet noted Dr. Brunson's astute observations, I'm sure they'll catch up shortly). I was also unaware that a DDS served as an MBA in digital media marketing and social networking but should you need the polymathic expertise of a dentist in a low rent shopping center, I know right where to point you. But I digress.... J-Brun's head nearly exploded when I told him I was going to see my childhood dentist for a third and final opinion. It was at this point that he angrily told me, "I'VE TOLD YOU WHAT TO DO AND YOU HAVEN'T DONE IT! IF YOU DON'T HAVE TRUST IN ME, THEN WE SHOULD PART WAYS." Ummm, OK. Done. As this infantile acting man attempted to put another bow in his verbal quiver, I explained that it was not a lack of trust, but that I will do this on MY timeline, at MY own pace, when I'M fully educated and fully comfortable with the procedure. Again, why do I have to explain this to a DOCTOR?? This was unacceptable to him and he told me (I'm paraphrasing now) that I should get another dentist. I was so shocked at his behavior that I said nothing. I've always, always been told that if your doctor is afraid of a 2nd opinion, then s/he shouldn't be your doctor and folks, J-Brun isn't just afraid of them, he's INFURIATED by them. Needless to say, I had all of my records transferred to another dentist - for which I was charged $10 dollars (classy) and am no longer being subjected to the tongue lashing I endured that day. Oh, by the way, my childhood dentist agreed with Dr. Brunson's initial diagnosis and has referred me to a periodontist. So it's not that Dr. Brunson is incompetent -- he clearly is not. He was smart enough to give the right diagnosis and is smart enough to surround himself with great help. Regrettably, however, he conducts himself like an insecure, angry little toddler. That's not the kind of guy I want drilling into my skull. read more

Dr. J is the shiznet. Just got back from establishing care and feel comfortable he won't jack up my mouth. Thank you so much Ardie S. for the great review. His staff had me fill out a pretty standard history before my appointment, and I was happy Dr. Brunson actually sat down with me and followed up with questions about my previous care. After X-rays and an exam, he uploaded the pictures his assistant took of my teeth and then showed me my mouth on the televison/monitor in my room while explaining in layman's terms what he found during his exam. I loved this. He is so professional and knowledgeable and approachable all at the same time. I also like the fact that he was an offensive lineman at San Angelo State and on the d-line and o-line for Midland Lee in high school during the years Friday Night Lights was written. Had two root canals and crowns placed about four years ago. Both of my 1st premolars (#5 & #12). The #5 crown broke off a number of times, including as a temporary. It kept falling off as a permanent (I later found out because the tooth wasn't prepped well enough and simply broke.) When I couldn't get the issue addressed, I found a new dentist. Long story short, that tooth that I just spent over 2 grand to fix ended up needing to be pulled, needed a graft, implant, and new crown. I'll just say it's much more than 2 grand to repair. I wasn't pleased, but I tried to let it go and never wrote a review (as much as I wanted to). But now, #12 broke off as well. I can see that it broke in the same place as the last one he did. So now that one will need to be pulled, grafted, implanted and re-crowned. I have crowns that are over 15 years old. They've never come off... not once. Both of these teeth failed. One of them didn't last a week, the other slightly better for a few years. Still a failed job in my opinion. I highly recommend you visit an endodontist if you need a root canal and Brunson is your general dentist. read more

Great experience. I'm so glad I switched from the crappy dentist-mill of a scam I first visited to here. It was such a happy and easy experience it makes look forward to coming back. Beautiful office, televisions by the chairs, and comfortable seating is just the easiest reason it was great. The hygienist I have had have been very friendly, very easy going, considerate of sharp objects, and between me and you not bad looking. Dr. Brunson is also very professional and unbelievably friendly. He small talked with me but also took the time to explain everything he would be doing and what my x-rays showed, the health of my teeth, etc... Woo Hoo!! Found a great dentist on our first try. After moving to a new area, you have to re-establish everything (i.e. dentist, family doctor and chiropractor). My husband found Dr. Brunson on Yelp, and I am so glad he did! Dr. Brunson is very professional, thorough and calming. His staff is awesome!! I met with Maria, Tasha, Brittany and Mariah. My husband and I both had great experiences as patients of Dr. Brunson. I was concerned about having to go to an in-plan dentist after two rather disappointing attempts to find a denists in the area, but the third time really was a charm. Dr. Bruson is a good dentist he is very friendly and is good at what he does, but his secretary Jessica is very rude and unprofessional. I had been with my previous dentist for 25 years but my insurance changed so I had to find a new dentist. I was extremely nervous about going to a new office. I could not have picked a better dentist :) Dr. Brunson and his staff were nothing but friendly and welcoming, and Dr. Brunson does a great job at explaining what he's doing every step of the way. I had to get a filling today and I have to say the pain management was excellent, the wait in the lobby wasn't long at all, and the actual procedure itself went by very quickly and smoothly. I got a cleaning afterwards with Beth, who was very thorough and gladly answered all of my questions. They even measured my gums, which is something my previous dentist's office never did. I feel like Dr. Brunson and his staff genuinely care about their patients' and oral health! If you are looking for a new dentist this is the place to go!!! read more

I was very happy with my former dentists at Northwest Hills Smiles but they stopped taking our dental insurance so I had to find a new dentist. Dr. Brunson was recommended to me by my brother. I called, was able to schedule an appointment right away and, best of all, they immediately requested and received my records from my former dentists. I had no real issues other than the rough edge of a cracked crown, but since I was a new patient, Dr. Brunson's assistant took new x-rays and then Dr. Brunson took photos of my teeth and we went over everything in a quick but thorough manner. He then filed down the jagged edges of the cracked crown and I was on my way. All in well under an hour. So far, this has been the best experience with a dentist that I've ever had. read more

I've been going to Dr. Brunson for a few years now and absolutely love this office. Over the years, I've had a crazy amount of dental procedures (and really owe my parents a lot of $$ for what they spent on my teeth as a child) but now have moved on to routine maintenance. I go every 6 months and have had great appointments. From the very first time I visited Dr. Brunson, he has remembered who I am. Not sure if he's making notes about personal stories in his files, but he asks me about specific volunteer work I do. Always makes me feel good that he remembers details like that. His staff is professional and never leaves me waiting. I just walk right in at my appointment time and waltz back to the chair. They have great technology here as well. TVs to watch and Xrays that show up on the screen when he discusses dental care. Since I've seen so many dentists in my lifetime, I'm pleased to have found one that really knows his stuff.
