I visited this location while visiting family nearby. It's a great location not too far from the castle. It's cute and sophisticated but still casual. For lunch à la carte we got several apps for the table, the prawn cocktail and Devon crab toast were my favorite! I got the fish and chips as my main; it was quite a large meal great for sharing if you're having other dishes along with it. Mrs G and I enjoy Browns restaurants, but often when you are visiting a different member of a large chain you notice differences. That is the case for Browns Windsor. We had just picked up two US visitors from Heathrow airport, wanted them to see Windsor castle before we drove home and so "of course" we chose to book and dine at Browns. Our local in Nottingham - never disappoints. Sadly Browns Windsor is nowhere near as good. The service was OK but not comparable to what we have come to expect, and the ambiance was just dull - surely no excuse for that in such a beautiful cosmopolitan setting. Parking is always a challenge in Windsor but hunt around and you will find a spot - but make sure that you have £1 coins or you will be out of luck! Would we visit again? Friends brought me here after a wander at Windsor. It was lovely for a leisurely lunch. We had a little confusion with only being able to sit in the bar and if we'd have to order at the bar or table service was available. The waitress we had was wonder and attentive. The great thing about this spot is the view of the Thames River from their upstairs deck. The restaurant is always packed. Service is friendly. But the food is just mediocre and not impressive esp. for the price. Ordered the Mushroom Tagliatelle (£12.50) - very bland and boring ... I actually had to add salt-n-pepper. My colleague enjoyed her Chicken Avocado Salad though. We also shared the Peach Melba dessert (£6.95) - canned peaches, meringue and vanilla ice cream ... very disappointing. A quintessential British experience. Blocks away from Windsor Palace and situated along the peaceful Thames and with a menu full of the staple items that you'd expect to see on the menu. You can get away with serving a bowl of cereal with this as your location. Some of the best fish and chips and meat pies I've experienced in this fair country. My wife and I stopped in here for breakfast on a Friday morning before heading to Windsor Castle. I noticed that there are quite a few subpar reviews of the Browns, but they look to be from several years ago, so I thought I'd give an updated review. Our experience was top notch! When you enter, you're greeted with lightly playing jazz piano in the background. There is great lighting, patio seating, and plenty of tables for even a busy morning. My wife ordered the smashed Avocado Toast with eggs and I ordered the traditional English breakfast....the best breakfast we've had in the UK so far- the sausage and bacon was somewhat smoked and not at all too salty. The breakfast was also very reasonably priced, about £20 for two with coffee's. Considering that an average hotel breakfast is about £12, this is a much better alternative! I'd give the service just a 4/5 though as they are a bit slow to bring the bill after they've cleared the table. To be fair though, that's not abnormal in the UK. This is a restaurant and a bar. I visited the bar/pub side one afternoon then went back for dinner the next night on the restaurant side. The food is delicious and they have a special menu if you get there prior to 7pm during the week. I added a photo so take a look. 2 items for 12.95 (pounds for my American friends so do the math) The steak is an extra charge, but less than 2 pounds. I'd give it 5 stars but both times I went in the staff couldn't get my order correct. They were friendly and attentive but just a bit of a language barrier. I speak English and they do in Great Britain but many of the staff comes from other countries and English is an added language. Again, they were kind but waiting for a corrected order while a friend has theirs isn't fun. I ordered the butternut soup and it was "spot on", delicious and almost a meal in itself. I was almost full just from eating the soup. It was super yummy but I did add a little bit more salt and pepper but I do like things extra seasoned. I ordered the Steak Frits for the main. The steak was cooked perfect and super delicious. It came topped with a garlic butter seasoning on top and with a little side of salad on the plate. It was a really delicious meal and the dessert menu looked amazing but I was completely stuffed. This location is amazing. On one side you can see the Windsor Castle from the hilltop above. On the other side you can see the River Thames as well as the river cruise boats passing by. This is a great location and I would have loved to sit outside but it was February and too cold. It's got a definite quiet more romantic vibe then every table has a child full of energy trying to make it through dinner with their family. The lamb meatballs were good. Sauce was amazing. We had booked well in advance and were seated promptly at 8 O'clock. Unfortunately no main dishes were served until around 22.00, the last at 22.30. Despite several chasers no answer was received and a member of the group actually had to leave and cancel their food. When the food did eventually arrive, mine was luke warm at best and completely bland. Unfortunately not living up at all to the delicious menu description. The best General And Kitchen managers ever. The restaurant has great food, including my favourite, schnitzel and mashed potatoes. Yummy ! The waiters were nice and very chatty! Especially some Romanian curly girl ! I had a chance to speak the general manager and she was very professional. She was very friendly and was also very funny. The place is very good and full of positive, smart and beautiful people. I also know a couple of people who have visited, and they got me to visit it as well! Totally worth a trip from Scotland! Nice vibe in the bar area but they have jazz on loop and the food is really really disappointing and wayyy over-priced. I ordered a teriyaki chicken kebab as a starter and it came out literally as 2 little tiny strips of chicken and small salad garnish. Not in skewers and no cutlery and they expect you to eat it with your fingers. Very weird. All the main menus sound ok but I saw them on other peoples tables and they look very ordinary. The only thing that Browns Windsor has going for it is its location. The service is by staff that can't hardly understand your order. Then once you receive your order it is wrong, not cooked as requested. Then when pointed out they attempt to cover their mistakes with lies. Tips for Browns Windsor 1. When you mess up and order don't sent back the same thing with something sprinkled on top hoping that the customer won't say anything a second time. 2. Don't lie and argue to to customer when you know that their steak is cooked medium and not rare, there is quite a difference. 3. Don't make excuses for your staff not understanding when they are taking an order just because they don't speak English, teach them to repeat back the order. 4. Finally, when you try to come to the table do not ignore the person who has spoken to you. read more

Poor service, very over priced for average quality food. We had chicken pot pie & roast pork. The chicken was bland & the pot was only filled roughly a third - big disappointment to break through the crust & find emptiness... I'm a big fan of crackling, but this was the first time I haven't been able to eat it - it was so hard that it actually cut the roof of my mouth. We understand that Windsor is a big tourist area & therefore you can expect restaurants to be somewhat overpriced but I would avoid this place. Camembert appetizer was very good and the scallops were SO meaty (and had a nice garnish). I had the crab and crayfish cakes for a main and was disappointed, I would title them Potatoe cakes w/crab and crayfish...didn't taste bad, but it's not a crabcake and the mayo that came with it wasn't very good either. My colleagues had the seafood pasta (with a tomato sauce I think) and they really enjoyed it. The ambience is wonderful, lots of light, on the river and beautiful during the sunset. Disappointed with the service. Our waiter waited until we were completely done with the appetizers to bring the main course.... which would be ok...but not after over 30 minutes, he could at least ask us if we wanted our entrees! I had just landed at Heathrow and it was lunchtime. Mr. Snarky asked if I wanted to have lunch at T3, somewhere along the way, or in Windsor. I wasn't *that* desperate, so off to Windsor we went. As we parked, I took note of our food choices. Some of our other choices didn't look open, so to Browns we went. It is a cute restaurant, although the service could use some work. Tables are also very close together. This is important because there is very little room to maneuver... salty looks from the lady at the table behind you or a waiter that smacks his tray right into the head of a guy at the table next to you. It happened. That said, I think both Mr. Snarky and I were pleased with the options on the menu... including the prices. We were going to have a starter, but since we couldn't make a decision, we just decided to order. He had the Sausages and Mash and I had the Bubble and Squeak... and we had a cheeky order of chips. Yeah, carb overload. My excuse is that it was chilly and rainy outside... I would need the insulation! The food came out and it looked lovely. My Bubble and Squeak was wonderful! It said that it came with a Balsamic Vinaigrette, but I didn't taste that, however, I don't know that it was a bad thing. The poached eggs were lovely and the yolks made for a lovely "dressing" on everything else. And the chips were really good too! More of a 1.5 stars really but I'm not feeling generous, so 1 it is! It was a rainy Sunday night. The place was pretty empty. My friend and I went to the bar area since there were four members of staff hanging out behind the counter. No one greeted us. No one approached us. We made for a smaller table that needed to be cleared then went to the bar to order. We had the bar snacks: sweet potato wedges, scotch eggs, sausage roll and tempura prawns. One of the staff did a half-arsed job of cleaning the table when asked. My friend then grabbed a rag from a counter and finished the job. The food came. Scotch eggs: OK but you can get better from Tesco. Sausage roll: disaster not fit for human consumption. Apparently it had been heated past an inch (more like a foot) of its life and was rock hard and impossible to eat. We got it taken off our bill but of course, we had to go up to the bar with the offending food item in hand to do so. I didn't try the other items. I assume they were similar to the Scotch egg. It was definitely overpriced. The service was non-existent and unfriendly. I will avoid going back. read more

But that's about it. 60+ parties should not sit at one loooonnnnggg table with 30 people on each side with zero breaks. "Sorry we are out of this. No we can't go and buy some bread from the shop next door. Despite the fact that's it's lunchtime on the start of a bank holiday weekend." - parsnip soup. Luke-warm. The artisan bread it came with? Well it was 2 cubic inches off stale bread with a 1/2 inch slab of butter on the top. - asparagus, prosciutto ham and poached egg - Luke warm. - prawn cocktail - 5 king prawns in a cocktail sauce with brown salad. Prawn cocktail doesn't work with king prawns. The 'sour dough' bread it came with was just a couple of small bits of brown bread. So pissed off with this place I didn't want my money back at the end. Wanted them to realize I will never use a Browns again and that their restaurant is crap. Needless to say that we got plenty of attitude from the manager. Just don't do it! read more

Went here on a Saturday after visiting the castle (about 6pm) food and drinks all to a good standard but service was slow and atmosphere wasnt as expected. We booked browns because we thought it was more of a "grown up" place based on others we had been to before. Be advised this branch seems very much more aimed at families and kids! Was full of small children literally running and screaming everywhere (on seats, under tables, knocking drinks to the floor), we had to climb over prams in the doorway to get in, we should have walked away then! The staff said nothing despite there being absolute mayhem everywhere. The noise was awful and probably amplified by the acoustics of the room, we had to literally shout at each other, service was also slow so we ended up being there for nearly 2 hours for one course despite trying to rush through! I've no problem with families or small kids being in any restaurant (ever!) but this was just ridiculous! If you're looking for a grown up meal and a cocktail stay clear! read more

It might be near the river but its right by the main road through Windsor so if you eat at one of the outside tables expect exhaust fumes to mingle with the fag smoke and your food! Browns has a very good location t=and for that you pay! It is loacted opposite the river thames where you can see the bridge over to Eton. It has two floors and a large outside area for a nice sunny day. The decor is modern and clean. The drinks are food are a tad expensive, but as i said you are paying for the view. Saying that it is not located right on the river it is separated from it by a stone wall and also a road. So expect a fair few cars to go whizzing past! The stone wall is small though and the river large so you will still see the water and also the letting boats going down it. The staff here are friendly and efficient and the service has always been fairly fast depending of course on how busy it is. The bar is a little posher then a lot of places, but then - this is windsor daaaarling! :) read more

Food is amazingly overpriced for the quality, just dont bother! The beer is fine but not great value,not too bad but not great. The other drinks are of an avarage standard at an above standard price. Has always looked lovely, especially in nice weather when there is outdoor seating, so thought we'd stop in for lunch. Seemed really understaffed for a Saturday lunch service; not fully booked, as we were able to get a table without a reservation, but the service was abysmal and it took ten minutes just to get water for the table. Food looked good on the menu, but left a lot to be desired. The burger was a decent burger, but the fish cakes were 80% mashed potato, lacked seasoning and were extremely greasy. All in all just seemed like overpriced pub food. Such a shame, for such a lovely location overlooking the water. read more
