Whatever they didn't sell from 20 years ago is still sitting on the shelf, like outdated telephone jacks and other random merchandise. It is one of the larger Aces I have been to and everything is very spread out and open. Not a lot of foot traffic on the day I was there, in fact I was the only one there and the employees seemed bored and tried to be helpful but couldn't actually help with what I came in for. They do make keys there and their system is different from the other major chains so if you are having a tough time getting a copy they might can help you out. This business seems to have some major pet peeve about cell phones as their were 2 NO cell phone signs posted on the front door and then another one posted at the register. Looks like they had a bad batch of customers on their phone and could not get over it haha. If u plan on running in and making a purchase under 10$ then you should bring cash as their sign at the register posts that purchases under 10 should not be run on credit. So there you have it.

I think a lot of us in the area went into…read moremourning when St. Paul Builders closed, and though we understood the desire of the owners to retire, we worried about losing a hardware store locally, and we worried about the employees. I did, anyway. So it's wonderful to see two familiar faces when I go to Hometown Hardware. This store is smaller than St. Paul Builders, but Steve and Jerry are quick to order anything you need. I wanted some DAP plaster-of-Paris powder, and it was waiting for me the next time I went in--and at a good price. Steve and Jerry are professional, accommodating, and also very nice and friendly. I predict that Hometown Hardware will become as much a local institution as St. Paul Builders was. And I very much appreciate that I don't have to drive a long way just to pick up hardware and supplies. The location in downtown St. Paul is extremely convenient.

The few remaining Clampitt staff jokes(?) about everyone being fired. Most of the reviews here do not appear to be about the Bryson location. If you only ever had an Elders, and didn't know Clampitt, maybe they seem OK?? I was quoted $8 for a #2 spruce 8' 2x4 yesterday at Elders Bryson, at Lowes $3.45. I don't expect Lowes prices, but that is ridiculous, Clampitt used to be about $5 for the same 2x4 months ago, and lumber prices have been stable since then. When I commented to the cashier "I miss Clampitt", she said "We hear that a lot". I prefer to shop local, and will continue for other things ... but for hardware/lumber, I'll now normally just drive to Sylva. Since being purchased from Clampitt, Elders has screwed up the inventory system, reduced what they carry (Isles are much wider due to less inventory). They also eliminated any vegetable plants in 6 packs, reduced the vegetable seed rack by replacing it with ... wait for it ... Elder's logo'ed hats and coffee mugs at an exorbitant price. I have never seen anyone picking up anything from that shelf.
